Hmm.. I don't know how difficult this would be, or if it was supposed to be in the original game, but any chance you can add an option to stop the three intro movies and go right to the title screen?

Also.. just a side note.. Cassidy's talking head is REALLY creepy looking.. anyone else notice that?

Hi!

I just downloaded this mod+patch, the description really makes me want to replay Fallout:)

I made a fresh install, Fallout v.1.0 + last official patch, then ran the installer of Restoration Project 1.1, (skipped Goris and children during the installation) and applied all the fixes from the thread, i.e. scripts and those files in .rar archive.

The problem I get is when I get out of Arroyo, I keep meeting Kaga like every 3 seconds on the map. It's pretty annoying because he keeps running off when I try to kill him and I get the same long dialogue every time..:\ Any help would be appreciated. Fallout <3<3<3

Short question where do I get the heart pills or other medicne which cures Brother John's heart problems? He is at the Abbey.

Another question, I found a lot of books there. May I throw sam away or do I need one of them later on?

Thx for helping

Hello killap,

I spotted two bugs. Both at Gecko.

1. Skeeter doesn't give me the order to get the car part from the reactor. But I tried with out his order. But doesn't work. The concersation at the reator ends with the words that I have to come back because there's a waiting list for the part I requested.

2. down at the rat god at in Gecko. During the conversation before I can ask it if he can stop the attckings at the Vault Patrols. I come to a point where 3 answers were for choice and the last one was displayed with error.

Can you help me fix these problems, especially the 1. one.

Add to the first point. When talking to Skeeter, there is no option recieve the order to get car part. He just complians about the new gecko who's running the reactor now.

Thx for your answer and your advice with the thread. That's what I thought about, too. But I just forgot to add the question if I'm on the right thread.

I've already changed to the game play thread.
And now you've changed back to the wrong thread again... perhaps an insult would jog your memory?

No need to get mad :-) I had just opened the wrong tab when I wrote the post. And when I recognized my mistake I wasn't able to delete it anymore.

sorry

Hey, first off, thanks for the mod Killap.

Now for why I am posting, I discovered something that fixed the EPA elevator problem for me.
I was playing with a us version of Fallout 2 installed form the Fallout collection DVD.
When I read in this thread that not everyone was experiencing this problem I decided to try to use a different version of Fallout 2 to see if that might solve the problem.
So I downloaded the standalone US version using a peer2peer program and installed it on my computer, and that fixed it for me.
I can now use the EPA elevators using my old savegames, no more crashes.

Hope this solves the problem for everyone else as well.

Ok, I was using the newest compilation of the Fallout games as I never quite liked the version that came with the CD I bought when the game first came out. I installed using the "GSP White Label, Fallout Collection".
And everytime the EPA bug would crash when I tried to use the elevators.

So I uninstalled everything, patch and game and then did a Humongus install with my old v1.00 CD of Fallout (the original retail version if you will). Then I installed the Restoration Project 1.1 patch. Then I copied over the backed up gamesave I had made before when the game was crashing (I had saved right next to the elevator).

So I load up the save game, use the elevator in the EPA and presto! No crash!!!!

So the problem might be the version of Fallout 2 that people are installing. Because I'm pretty sure that the version that came with the GSP White Label collection was prepatched. The reason was because if you all remember, in the pure unpatched version of Fallout 2, they included the bags from F1, you know, the ones used to manage inventory, like the doctor bag looking one. However with that first all important patch, they removed the bags. Playing the unpatched White Label version, I saw no bags.
So, most likely it came prepatched.

As for the issue of piracy via p2p sites...is it piracy or illegal when you are downloading a game that you infact own and have on you? Or is that going into the grey area's own grey area there?

Wouldn't the main menu show whether a version was pre-patched or not? I am fairly certain my version is unpatched, even if it's on one of those FO1/FO2/etc-compilations, because 1. the restoration works without problems, 2. the main menu doesn't mention any patching (it's the child-less UK version), 3. the CD came with the latest official patch, and it says "upgrading from 1.0" in the instruction manual...

Different countries have different laws. But to put things in perspective: the Restoration project includes, and thus redistributes, the Fallout 2 executable file, and improved versions of many of the data files.

Now, if you choose to get the small portion of Fallout 2 that isn't included in the Restoration from somewhere on the Internet, then.. well, who cares?

How stable is the restoration?

Will it crash the game or corrupt save games? Has anyone encountered any serious problem with the restoration pack?

Thanks.

just started playing fo2 with the restoration mod.

3 things, i dont know if these are bugs or gameplay related puzzles i just didnt solve but:

1)ok this is minor correction but tribal leader at primitive village during dialogue says "holding here there" when its suppose to be "holding her there" in reference to sulik's sister.

2)when you get sulik and you goto his village; he wanders off the map and disappears completely, is that normal?

3)quest to get 10kives, 5 spears, how come when i get them and talk to the guy, it doesnt work?

P.S. all i did was install fallout and then restoration mod with manually updating all fixes posted on page 1.

Actually, part of the reason for making the Restoration in the first place is to make Fallout 2 as stable and consistent as it should have been from the beginning. I think there's a count somewhere of how many bugs the Restoration fixes, and it's in the hundreds. I think you'll find that the general consensus is that the Restoration is far more stable than any other Fallout 2 version, and that the second most stable version is Killap's unofficial 1.2 patch. The only problem right now is that each new version of the Restoration will invalidate previous savegames. (There's also crashes for some people in some identified places, which may have to do with the Fallout 2 version and/or the computer environment.)

EDIT: There are still problems with Fallout 2 that are unfixable by any mod, since they stem from bugs in the engine itself. If you review this thread and its Restoration v1.0 counterpart, you'll find them all.

Hi!
Are you having crash problems with EPA? Help me, to help you!
Go to the fallout2.cfg, and find this code:
Code:
[system]
art_cache_size=8
Its on the bottom of the file. Next, change it to:
Code:
art_cache_size=261
and report back here if you are still having problems. Sadly, i cannot reproduce the crashes occuring with Klamath. I do not guarantee that this will work, i am only presenting a possible solution.

Well, aside from the EPA elevator bug which might be licked by now, I'd say it's far more stable than the original game.
That might not seem like much considering that when it first came out we had to wait a few days for a patch to come out that made the game actually playable w/out crashing. However this little mod is a beauty that any F2 fan should try.

Wait, you lowered your int to get the quest? Is the quest even available for low int characters?
You can only get the quest in the first place if have a stupid character.
Too many details to remember...I'll take a look and see if something is up.

I got the same problem, Killap. I talked Jack out of blowing himself (and got the nice prize). Then if you're an intelligent character you have to lower your Int stats (and boost up strength to 7) to keep the "Take care of Jack" quest for Mira.

I have the same problem.

I tried the "super stims to death" method and the "1 round ulta violence kill" methods (essentially you hose the poor bastard down). I also tried to recreate Jack's explosion by planting bombs on him- and that crashes the game or only wounds Jack.

Incidently, Jack remains heavily armed and holding an automatic rifle. Bastard hosed ME down when I tried to plant a bomb!

YES! It fixed it! It fixed the damned elevator bug!
I registered only to tell you - THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! :D

I only hope it'll be completely fixed, because I've found only one elevator for now...

Okay - so I should probably mention that I didn't have an art_chache_size part in my cfg file AT ALL, because I made a manual install - as directed here:

http://www.nma-fallout.com/article.php?id=1593

Was that bad? Is there something else missing?

I also have a bug to report - I have some weird graphical flickering - the game cursor sometimes jumps up and down. Also do the Dream Sequences movies flicker (the whole screen flickers up and down at times). Though it's not consistant - only some frames flicker at times, so it's completely playable. It may not be expansion related, but who knows. So does anybody have an idea what might be causing this and how to fix it?

Also I have to ask something: This is my situation - I played Fallout 2 with the January release of the expansion (with all the fixes manually added), but I got the elevator crash, so I tried reinstalling the whole game. BUT now all the fixes are gone from your site and there's a february release. Which one should I use if i want consistant behaviour - the january (without the fixes which are missing now) or the february? Would the february release cause any problems? (I already killed Kaga, and solved everything in the primate village, I also wiped out the Slaver Camp and freed all the slaves though now I read that I probably shouldn't have, I finished all in Den residential, and the two quests in Vault Village (which has walls now), and the abbey is missing only a heart pills and a piece of botanical information in order to be seemengly complete)

Also I found a bug with the january .exe and ddraw and stuff fix. When I put it it and went to the World Map it always freezed the game. ForceLowResolutionTimer=1 fixed this. The February release didn't cause any such fuss.

Also - my best regards for killap, for his super patch and his hellishly buggy, but fruitful expansion! :D
