basic install problem

Hi,

Did a clean install of fallout, and then used the automated install of RP 2.1.1

I am getting the little rock at the beginning, as well as the option to use the Long Haired Dude at char creation.

What is definitely not working is the NPC armor and Cassidy's talking head. Have no idea if YAAM is working, since I am not sure how to check for that.

I then tried a manual install, and am having the same problem.

Any idea what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks!
Michi

While I can't help with NPC armor and Cassidy's talking head, there's a quick way to see if YAAM is working. Open up the file ddraw.ini (you can use Notepad), and search for the string "DamageFormula=5". If you can find it, then YAAM is active. If DamageFormula is set to some other value, then YAAM is not active.

Once you get further into the game and start picking up ammunition, you can look at their details. If YAAM is active, then in lieu of a "DR Mod" value, there should be a "DT Mod". You can look at the YAAM feedback thread for details on what values should be associated with which ammunition type.

One final thing: note that YAAM is not included with the manual version of the Restoration Project. If you used the manual route to install RP and wanted to use YAAM, then you'll have to download YAAM separately and integrate YAAM manually with the RP yourself. Fortunately, this shouldn't be hard to do, but feel free to PM me if you need help.

Cheers,

many thanks

to killap and the many folks responsible for this wonderful restoration project, i extent to you my sincere appreciation for such a kickin' upgrade to an already awesome game. i've lurked around here for a few months now trying to pinpoint exactly the perfect point of compromise between each successive version number and my ever-weakening resistance to get playing. i waited until 2.1.1, and i'd like to report that it was eminently enjoyable.

i took my time and ended at level 34 i think... :)

one question- at the enclave, i was unable to find a way to get the presidential passkey to work. i've searched around for answers, but? idk, forgive me if i've overlooked some info in the forums (i did see that in earlier versions there was a problem with this item lacking...).. perhaps it needs to be used with a certain other item??

again, all my best regards to all the folks who put this together. it was really cool seeing so many recognizable names in the credits.

best,

ward

When you have it, you can use the computer in the big hallway where Frank Horrigan is, to turn the turrets against him. It worked perfectly for me, but I believe that you need a big enough science and intelligence to use it. I can't help you any further.

I am an idiot

I forgot to mention one important step I did... which was I copied my install dir to another dir and installed RP to the copied dir, but I never modified fallout.cfg, so I was always pointing to the wrong .dat files.

Doh!

Things I'd like to see:

1. Statcheck for mentats (IN>4). No more cheating with stupid characters :D
2. San Francisco findable only after reading the survey map at Mariposa. Seriously, that gives the map some use, and prevents the cheese aka going naked to san fran to make a navarro trip for Advanced power armor.
3. Level check for Vertibird plans quest. I personally think this one should be quite high (level 15 or so). Again prevents lame shortcuts. I heard the level check was intended there anyway, only is bugged.

It would be good if there's a check for Vertibird plans quest to see if your villagers got kidnapped or not. But I think that's beyond what RP covers.

hello everybody im new:)

i would just like to ask a question.

i just got a copy of fallout 2 (never played it) and would like to know if i need the Unofficial Fallout 2 patch (version 1.02.27.1)

to use the Fallout 2 Restoration Project (version 2.1.1) ???

or do i just use the latter??

and i take it i have to update to 1.02. before i use the Restoration Project ???

thanks for your time

@ ravingham91

its like Killap described in the first Post of this Thread:

Installation instructions:
1. Make a clean installation of Fallout 2 (humongous install)
2. Download and install the RP (only use the manual install if you really know what you're doing)
3. That's it. Don't install anything else, unless you know what you're doing!

Axel:

Firstly, this isn't really the right topic for questions like these...try asking questions in the Fallout 2 Restoration Gameplay Thread.

Also, are you following the guide for the Fallout 2 Restoration Project? If you are, please note that the EPA has been drastically overhauled since the guide was written, and many things in it about the EPA no longer apply.

Kitsune is still around...

As for the generator, have you gotten the quest to repair it yet? If not, you won't be able to do anything to it.

Dunno if this is the right thread, and it's not really a concern, just thought I'd mention it anyways: I'm using the long haired dude I just picked up the bridgekeeper's robe and all of the sudden the aiming animation for my rifle doesn't work any more.
It works for leather armour and leather jacket so I'm just wondering if the modders didn't animate aiming when wearing the robe or if it's a bug.

No worries if it's just not included, just wanted to let you know. Excellent work all over!
