Another RP release packed full of fixes is at hand and we even have some restored content to go with it too! With the imminent arrival of Wasteland 2, hopefully you can get at least one more Fallout 2 round in.

Will there be more RP releases? Well, you can only chisel away for so long, but there does seem to be some critter animations (Punk Girl, actual combat leather jacket animations, etc) being worked on and it would be a shame if they didn't find their way into the RP. And of course bug lists make me sad. But I will say this, if you've been waiting, don't wait anymore. Seriously. Just play. It seems obsession is the only driving force for me to keep working on these continued updates and that's just not as fun as it should be.

Now there is the question of source code. Well, the fact that I'm finally releasing it might be a tell-tale sign of a real retirement at hand. But like I said above, at this point I don't think that's truly possible for me. I'd also like to say that by releasing this source code I am in no way handing over the reigns for others to do RP releases. Perhaps that's selfish of me, but I've put too much into this work to let others do what they want. Of course, anyone is free to make their own mods based on or for the RP; that is more than welcome and that's the point of releasing the source. But if the RP/UP is to be officially updated, that will only happen through me.

So without further ado, enjoy!

Note: Previous 2.3.x save games should be compatible, but to ensure no problems come up please start anew. There are some areas that will potentially break with old saves unless you enter them for the first time. You've been warned.

Bug reports should be added to the Fallout 2 RP bug report wiki. A link can be found below. Posting issues only in this thread risks your report being lost over time.

Installation instructions:

1. Make a clean installation of Fallout 2 (humongous install). If you are running Vista/7/8, be sure to NOT install in the c:\program files directory.
2. Download and install the RP (only use the manual install if you really know what you're doing)
3. That's it. Don't install anything else, unless you know what you're doing!

Direct links:

Windows installer (recommended): download
Manual install (advanced users): download

NOTE: This version of the RP is OUTDATED. Read about the updated packages here.

**POST FIXES**
None at this time.

In addition to a dozen or so vanilla fixes (listed in the unofficial patch thread), below are RP specific fixes found in this release:

RP 2.3.3 Change Log:
Code:
New Content:

• Restored bell sounds before each round when boxing in New Reno. This was prevented before by a vanilla bug.
• Cult of Personality now also applies to town reputations and not just global reputations. This was accidently omitted when I restored the Cult of Personality perk to the game. 23 scripts were modified for this latest change, mostly in Klamath and Vault City. In total, only 58 out of over 1,000 scripts make use of this perk, which just goes to show that the reaction system was never truly fleshed out in this game. But hey, at least the perk isn't useless anymore.

Bug Fixes:

Abbey:
------
• Entering the Abbey after solving the grave digger questline will no longer cause Tom to move to his initial offscreen starting position only to proceed back to the Peterson's house.

Den:
----
• Fixed regression where using an item from your inventory (right-click with inventory open) while carrying Anna's diary would result in a message about the diary being displayed, even if you weren't looking at the diary.
• Fixed issue for the situation where Lara could disappear after the attack at Tyler's party.
• It is now possible to double cross Lara and then double crosses Tyler, thus ending with helping Lara. Before a situation like this would result in a broken gang war quest.
• Fixed a few more misc issues with the Den gang war.
• Removed knife near the West end entrance that was not stacking with other knives.
• Fixed instance where the squatters getting killed after establishing the orphanage and then talking to Mom could result in the quest getting completed twice.
• Fixed issue where squatters were being created and added to the map multiple times.

EPA:
----
• If you don't kill the plants on the surface before talking with the Director of Ground Maintenance and taking the quest, he'll keep asking whether you completed the task despite having done so and receiving the reward from him.
• The Brave Little toaster would still complain about not feeling well even after fixing him. This has been corrected.
• Zoo creatures no longer use tribal combat taunts.
• Improved fail message when attempting to repair the data storage and maintenance computer with an insufficient repair skill.

Military Base:
--------------
• Reverted change which prevented Melchior from spawning molerats.

NCR:
----
• Fixed instance where instigating Elise would not result in combat when it should.
• Fixed issue where Slavers would not follow you past the first attack on the Rangers' safe houses.

Sierra Army Depot:
------------------
• Cat Jules, Kitsune, and Dex were not being counted in the situation where Skynet flips out and kills your entire party.

Misc:
-----
• High resolution patch updated to V4.1.8.
• Sfall updated to v3.3.
• Fixed instances in some NPcs (Sulik, Cassidy, Marcus, Dogmeat) where when you recruit them there is a "phantom" dialogue window that pops up and then immediately closes.
• Fixed issue with Dogmeat where giving him gecko-on-a-stick would always bring up his initial dialogue for joining, even if he was already in your party.
• Killing some traders was not affecting the Chosen One's karma.
• Nomad shaman no longer combine broc and xander for free.
• Changed the name of two unused animations in critters.lst to the proper syntax so that the Mapper correctly displays all available critters. Useful for modders.
• Misc Russian translation fixes.
• Fixes to typos and other minor text fixes.
• Fixes to other issues that never got properly documented since the last release.

I just finished a game earlier today!

Looks like I'll be starting over again. haha. Awesome.

A watershed moment in Fallout 2 history. Thanks for all the time and effort, killap. It's an honor to have been a contributor to the RP.

Thanks for the new RP, killap! And now we also have script sources for both UP & RP. :D

@Dravean
I honestly couldn't have gotten here without your help. You were a big part of making the RP what it is today. Thanks, man.

@NovaRain
I'm still amazed with how many times you've played Fallout 2 (from start to finish) for all the beta tests I've needed over the years. Thanks again for everything.

All hail the Bear Dude! Thanks for keeping Fallout 2 alive and playable.

Currently downloading, now all I have to do is think of a character I haven't played yet. Maybe a jinxed, granade-throwing gambler with a severe Tragic addiction...

Looks like it's gonna be busy time for me, updating my mod :)

Edit: WOW, thanks for the script sources! How long I've waited for them... This will make thinks A LOT easier!

Now I just cross my fingers and hope that new update will not collide with my prototype ID's...

Edit: and it didn't! No new items or scenery added. That's a relief! :D

Oh crap, I've just spend about a hour yesterday stealing money from elder in Arroyo. :D In version 2.3.2. :D Damn. :D

Anyway, downloading.

Thanks so much!
PS. I quick made mod to gain perk every level: download (instruction: override the original file in "\Fallout2\data\Scripts)". It works correctly after first level.

awesome! i hope your lifework will some day be done! :-)

any changes in the companion protos?

I am trying to get the splash screens to display (GET READY... etc). Presumably they actually do, it is just so quick that they never actually make it to my monitor screen. I thought that the High Res Patch gave the option for displaying for a fixed number of seconds but that does not appear to be the case. It looks like user provided art (EDIT: *.BMP format, but what on Earth is *.RIX format? There don't seem to be any examples in my F2 folder) which is stored in the folder \data\art\splash (which the user must create) should be displayed, however.

I'm sad. :puppy-dog:

Me, I just molest the geckos in the Arroyo Hunting Ground. Wax on, wax off.

EDIT: Besides, getting the Elder drunk isn't my idea of a good time...

How to set Perk Freq with Sfall with each 2 levels?

IYouI, Timeslip describes how right here:

EDIT: BTW. On my desktop, for the F2 icon, whose face is it which has replaced the Pip Boy's???

Whoever is currently adding reports to the wiki, I hate you. I'm kidding of course, but why is it that every _bleeping_ time I release an update someone instantly comes out of the woodwork and does some extremely thorough playthrough. Where were you a month ago? Why do you people do this to me. ;)

Well, it looks like I'll be starting a new game, even though I just started one the other day. It's cool with me, though. At least I know I can play it on my new laptop with the Microdick Winblows 8.1 system. Of course, watch it crash now that I said that.
