Fallout 2: Shattered Destiny

Well, good question. I actually never played the english version myself and it's about 10 years or more since I've last looked at this mod. It's possible that you aren't using the latest english version, but can't check, as it apparently isn't on NMA anymore. Moddb says 1.1 while german is 1.3 - that's weird too. It's really possible that I never updated the moddb file version.

In any case you can progress without talking to him *right now* - one of the NPCs can lead you to a cave (the bartender? or a drunk). Go there.

Newest ones in the archive are 1.1.01 for EN and 1.3.01 for DE.
Though there's oddly also some 1.10 patches that seem to be 2 years older.
Not very consistent version naming you got there :P

Can't you use mod powers to add the newest version to the current downloads, Lexx? Or get SuA/Hass to give you modder status so you can.

I don't even know if I still have the files, tbh. Also even in the latest revision the mod is extremely buggy due to all the possible interconnection and stuff. Watched some lets play of it a while ago and couldnt stop wondering how I missed so many obvious issues, heh...

Dunno about the drunks but the bartender is the one that lead you to Old Bene.

I was indeed playing the 1.0.00 english version, most likely from moddb.
Drobovik database contains several other versions. I will soon try the more recent version and see if the problem come from the version of the mod or the version of the base game. (still a bit weird. That bug is kind of cutting the main quest)
In any case, there are several versions available in case you might want to re-upload at moddb.

I haven't finished it, but so far, it is one of the few mods that make me feel some Fallout vibe. The dialogs and location seems believable enough.

PS: As a side note, should we consider this mod as a demo of an unfinished mod, and wait for the next two chapters to put it amongs the finished mods ? Or should we consider this mod as a finished mod, and the next two chapters as sequels ?
I am working on this thread and i don't know where i should put Shattered Destiny.

It's not a demo, rather take it as what it is. There also won't be 2 more chapters- I changed plans already years ago, because with my noob level of game dev knowledge, I completely underestimated the amount of work, just like most other folks in that situation do. :>

I am still working on a Fo2 mod that has a few ties to SD1, but otherwise is not related to it anymore. No idea when this one will be done, though, as I stumble into writers blockage every other day and it's really hard to find another writer who'd be dedicated enough to help out with stuff.

Seems that updating the game and starting a whole new playthrough greatly fixed the issue.

In most situations, i managed to talk to Old Bene. No matter if i did the farm quest or not, if i started the children quest or not or if i am wearing the children robe or not.
The only exception was to successfully finish the quest for the children of the Cathedral (distributing the flowers) before asking them about Hanna. It triggers the *error* dialog with Old Bene without unlocking anything with the children.

On the other hand, if i go with Old Bene to fight the children of the Cathedral, everyone else on the map will attack the Old Bene crew, including the actual children (underage characters), and they will defend themselves, increasing my own body count. Even if i didn't kill children, there will be children on my body count (but not the childkiller perk).

When i go back to the main map, the game massively lags. (and sometimes, the folks there attack me)
I managed to save, then quit the game. When restarting the game and loading my savegame, no more lags.

When i go see Old Bene again, the quest reset if i ask for a reward. He send me to investigate at the church where everyone is dead. If i don't ask for reward, he will bring me to the caves.

Anyway, i can now proceed to the caves, and move forward. Still enjoying the plot.

On a side note, i wonder if there was a way to pacifically interact with Stuart Little or if he was alway meant to be hostile.

I think you can talk to him-- you should just not kill his rats. But I am not 100% sure anymore.. like I said, it's over 10 years since I've touched this.

All in all, this mod has many problems, because I never had a design document for it. Basically I made shit up as I went, and it shows. Also this was my very first "big" mod that I've ever released + I've learned Fo2 modding with it. The dude at the brahmin pen for example is the very first NPC I ever worked on. In big parts he's even just a generic Fo2 character where I merely rewrote the dialogue text. :>

This was indeed possible to peacefully deal with Stuart Little. Now i feel bad for blasting him on main playthrough. Remind me of the boy and his dog on Wasteland. I wasn't able to get to the mumbling ghoul on the other side of the ghoul HQ, although.

Finished the main quest. There was a bit foreshadowing for the near-ending twist, but it still caught me off-guard. It was satisfying to make the bastard pay, but i feft that the ending was mostly teasing for the sequel. Anyway, the whole mod seemed quite fitting with the Fo universe. The most satisfying so far, but i didn't try the big mods yet.

Yeah, I wanted the next chapter to be much bigger, with a real worldmap and multiple town locations, etc. SD1 is pretty much the intro of some kind (getting your party together, etc). Sadly it didn't work out like that in the end.

I don't know if it's here that I should be doing this but.. I'm doing it anyways.

I'm having trouble, meaning I don't know where to start there is no readME file for instructions.

what do I need to do first install the exe in the root directory or extract the zip file first.?!

Just use the 1.1_01.3 Eng/Ger file and install the mod into your Fo2 folder. That should be all. It should already include the latest english patch. No idea why there are so many different files in your screenshot.

it's from the guy that has almost if not all the mods for FO1 and FO2 downloadable from mediafire I think

so just the 1.1_01.3 thats all in english I presume if selected right.?!

I guess so. That's the file I'd download. But keep in mind I haven't touched the mod for nearly 10 years now.

woah that's a long time ago.. but I made it work by adding the extracted files from Hi-Res and eng patch zip files works great

Yeah, it is. Release was in november 2007, I think. 10 years after Fo1. /edit: Actually 30.09.2007 if one can trust the first post of this thread.

Occasionally I check out the map files and other stuff of the mod, just for nostalgia. Today I surely would not release a mod of that (writing and mapping) quality anymore. Though, in my defense, I was 17 or 18 years old at release and started working on it with 14 or 15... It's really blurry now. Anyway. With that in mind, I guess it ain't so bad anymore.

I bet you had fun messing around with it's content the best way you can. So this is, I mean is it SD and SD 2 compiled all together?

Nope, SD2 was never released. The one above is the only thing finished.

This is probably a rather naive question, but when can we expect the SD2 release? I find it very cool that you've decided to add the traits from Fallout 3 (Van Buren)... just awesome.
