Fallout 2 wins first in round at Gamespy

Only problem is Fallout 2 will get its ass raped by D2. Well the best thing we can do is put up a decent fight.

Somehow I would've felt better if somehow the Fallout fanbase had proven to have a higher integrity rating, rather than happily cheating along

Come'on dude, we're like what, 500 hardcore fallout fans ? What chance would we have against the hords of stupidity ?

We probably have gotten 500 extra votes from people that enjoyed the ctrl-alt-del comics, a few miss-clicks, etc ..

On the other hand, the fbos team probably voted for BG2, so this serves them right !! Dammit !!

And we didn't cheat, cause it's impossible to vote more than once on those polls. Don't ask me how they do it on gamespy, but they do.

There is a number of methods/combination of methods, none are impervious to cheating, really:

1. Only registered people may vote. best method, depending on the requirements of registration
2. cookie placed on computer to record vote. Cookie can be deleted
3. IP saved. IPs can be masked or changed if you don't have a static one

And that's pretty much it.
 
I dunno what they did, but this is what I did to try and get around it, and it didn't work: I would delete my cookies, and try to vote. It wouldn't work. I would delete the ?vote=1 from the url, and try and vote again. It wouldn't work. I have a static IP, so the only thing I could come up with was that they logged your IP, and locked it out of the poll once you had voted.

A rather primitive method

There are several anonymizers on the internet that'll hide your IP...
 
I'm not sure the IP blocking was the case.

What about huge companies that have a single IP point of presence on the 'net?

I think you'd block out a huge number of folks.

When I was using my methods, I got rid of the voted=1, and saw the vote incrementing proportionately to the number of instances I had running.
 
I hate it that Diablo2 is gonna kick FO2's ass even worse than with KotOR. That's the moment when people really should cheat :). I'd even prefer BG2 to win over FO2 and over D2 than FO2 over BG2 and D2 over FO2.
 
If it was possible to cheat, there's no doubt in my mind that the BG2 and Diablo 2 fans were cheating their asses off as well so I'm not too bothered by it. I am bothered by the fact that FO isn't clearly considered the better game by enough people to make it a landslide victory though - BG2 was longer and had more pointless loot, but in every other way FO2 trumped it. Well, except consistency within the setting maybe.

Undoubtedly cheated, as that is how many in Diablo 2 care to play.
 
Yeah why didn't FO make it up there? Gamespy is corrupt anyways ( a little less than before, I'll give you that) so their opinion don't count, nor do their polls.

on the cheating side, if so many people were cheating, as it seems.. if the cheat programs were working as they should, wouldn't there have been a lot more votes going in?
the score at the end seemed realistic to me.

There was a match between Fallout 1 and 2. Fallout 2 won, so it went on to go up against Balders Gate.
 
A shame that Age Of Empires 2 lost from Warcraft III.

Every time i voted in a mistAry way three or four votes would appear for BG, so at that time they were cheating hard. So since everyone at both sides rigged this, i have to say that it`s comforting to know that the Fallout community still has the UNITY touch that makes her famous and infamous everywhere :D
