Guys I dunno if this shows for you but when I look at the achievements (pc version) its shows the new DLC achievements. Its weird cause I can't see them with my xbox.

anyways the new achievements are easy. Just complete some more quests.

Post the list please, I'll add them to the wiki.

Can we add that to the Planet Fallout wiki too?

Other, old-gen companies may as well still call it a mere "update" or "patch", but when I think BethSoft, I think "complimentary functionality enhancing solutions", preferably with the word "premium" being mentioned somewhere along the line. It's hardly the usual mixture of slyness and unscrupulousness I've come to expect from a company of their stature and record, and, I have to admit, I'm a bit disappointed here today...

Guess what?

Fuck this, I'll play unpatched, not going to install random M$ bulldung just because it is "premium" and "required". Hell, I wouldn't touch this even if it were "integral".

cool.

but does it make the game better?
From what I can read in the official Forum ... heh well quite a few seem to report now issues with either Logitech hardware [mouse] or save games and Windows Live ...

that's not what I meant, I meant that they could very well have missed these bugs in testing because the game is running flawlessly for a lot of people. games are bugged, even after release. it's pretty much inevitable.

Isn't that what error reports, customer service, and reports on the official forums are normally for (and not self-gratification)? Also, shouldn't they already be testing it on a range of different systems anyway? Why is Beth better than other companies?

HA!! just when I started wondering on the last page...

So, if you click cancel on the GfWL install, will it cancel the patch installation as well (can't check, I got rid of my copy of the game)??? And, if you have no internet connection, will it cancel the install?

um, yes... they release the game, get error reports and feedback and then they deal with the issues. but the game has to be released before they can find all bugs. well, it doesn't have to, but the chances of catching every little bug in testing is pretty damn small. nowhere did I say Beth is better than other companies. where the hell did you get that from?

I was just responding to the "reading that list of big fixes, I don't understand why they even released the game" comment.

Well, that's what patches are for, right (and that's what the thread is about, I assumed you were talking about that, misunderstood). But seriously, from a major company like Beth having so many bugs on release is not quite the standard expected (of course, it's not STALKER:CS, but it's somewhere up there).

Anyway, I'm still dying to find out how the patch install works and how bad does it force you to install GfWL "adware".

i installed the patch and saw nothing GFWL related except it did install the GFWL app in my start menu.

note, I also do not start Fallout 3 thru the launcher (I generally run it straight from the fallout3.exe) and I bought mine thru Steam.

So far... no crashes (played for 2 hours) - as opposed to my current save game I was playing was crashing every 5-30 minutes. Yes, my current saved game loaded fine with the new patch.

First thing it'll do is install GFWL and updates DirectX, then patching.

Just avoid click on that 'adware' shortcut and the one in the in-game menu (and/or the home key), you'll be fine - you could always uninstall GFWL for the meantime. Since the DLC ain't out yet or if you ain't gonna bother with it.

The good part, is still the no need for the cd. ;)

I wish GFWL would not be a mandatory in Fallout 3. You have no choose about if you want it or not ...

I installed the 1.1 patch and the game crashed on the Bethesda logo screen! Thinking it was only a 'minor' bug, I started the game. After 10 mins, the game froze...

Nicely done Bethesda!

Like that would actually ever happen. If someone is gonna bother making a game with optional GfWL support, they could as well make the game without GfWL alltogether :P

No. Why should they do that?

I mean maybe I am getting old I dont know it, but I remember times when games offered you "light" "medium" and "full" during the installation where you could decide as user what you want on your drive or really only exactly those things that are the pure minimum to play the game. Now today companies like Bethesda (and most prominently Microsoft) go today with a "one size fits all" mentality which can be the root of many issues.

I dont see any issue in making GFWL optional. I dont know the software. I dont use the software. Never have and it's not very likely that I ever will. So why should I be forced to install it and dont get a option to skip it? I bet a lot of people use it and love it. Which is O.K. And making it optional in the installation would definetly not prevent people from using it who would use it anyway its just a simple "yes I want - No. I dont want" thing. The whole situation is just very umcofortable for those that dont want it on their PC as they have to either remove "manualy" or download a "mod"! for it that removes it ... talking about user friendliness with your software huh ...

But coming from the software/computer science side removing a choice from the user, the costumer is never a good thing in my eye. I just tend to "not" like such things a lot. Simplification is one thing and not ineherently a bad thing. But taking away choices is a totally different story. Paricularly on a system like the PC that is known for its flexibility (I see that GFWL is a mandatory on the X-Box its a Microsoft station afterall, but I dont see the need why a game should need it on the PC in the same way if not only optional for the user)

But see, if they make it optional, how many users will actually install it, and how much advertisement space will Microsoft lose because of those who didn't? After all, it's just licensed adware more than anything else. It's not about the people who want it - they won't mind anyway - it's about forcing those who don't want it to install it.

And mind you, certain games still offer you different installation options, it's just the GfWL from Microsoft who are lame money-grabbing bastards that is being such a biatch.

Especially that it's mandatory even in the Polish edition, despite the fact that Poland is not supported by GFWL yet.

Sounds almost like communism ... somehow. They sure learned something from them.

"you get. Even if you dont want it. Cant use it and and dont need it. You still get it"
