Fallout 3 at E3 - Evil Avatar

Red Faction had very little destructible bits.

Don't you think the being able to destroy things increases freedom, interactivity, and the desolation (and the feeling of desolation...) of the game? Isn't this a good thing?

I think RF was the first fps in which you could destroy walls with explosives.
Destructible enc. certainly is fun but it's as important as Liam Neeson for me. It means, I don't care, there are plenty of other things that are much more important and have been raped already.

If they really are destructible and not Zelda style explodable walls, then it's a plus. If not, then it's a gimmick/useless.

They seemed very excited about this, and we're past the Red Faction stage of explodable walls. I'm thinking it's going to be an implemented feature...

They were also excited about Radiant AI..
And call me old fashioned, but I'd rather they get the core of the game right before getting excited about gimmicks.

It dosen't sound to me as if you're able to destroy whole walls but they will show 'nice pseudo' holes...
So i wouldn't give anything for that. But maybe i'm wrong and you will be able to blow up walls just like in Jagged Alliance 2 and so on ;)

X-Com 3: Apocalypse had a pretty nice destructible terrain. I actually razed one office block to the ground with Devastator fire :) .

Since the Oblivion engine is quite demanding in terms of hardware anyway, I doubt the environment will be very destructible. Probably just lots of effects and decals. That, or F3 is going to cost some people a new PC :/. It's sad how some game developers nowadays make deals with hardware manufacturers in order to coax gamers into buying new hardware.

As far as I know, Silent Storm is pretty much the only game right now with "modern" 3d graphics AND a fully destructible environment. However, its maps are quite small and it eats quite a bit of RAM and CPU, so, again, I doubt there will be much destruction in F3.

It's not hard to make the environment destructible in a 2d engine, but if you're working with polygons...

Heh, that reminds of of one time in Apocalypse where two motherships appeared along with one of those giant aliens. My guys engaged them, then a fleet of police hovercars joined in a massive battle that completely levelled the section of the city it took place in.

do you honestly believe that "destructible environment" will be anything other than a poorly implemented buzzword?

Especially considering Bethesda's track record with buzz-words.

Kool!! I planted explosives on that door, and it blew up!!

Destructible environment! You couldn't do that in those crappy, old Fallout games.

And, yes, I'm expecting it to mean just about that: "blowing holes in doors, bullet holes in walls (until you leave the room and come back in), and exploding barrels of something radioactive."

Don't forget exploding nuclear cars!

To be fair, destructable enviroment is a buzz-word in nearly every First-Person game.
The German 'Söldner' (don't know how it's called over in english) tried it and a handful of other games, but none did very well i think...

And Bethesda dosen't seem to be a company being the one making big new inventions in terms of technical parts of games (no own engine and so on ;) - also i think they aren't that inventive on story and so on either...).

Mechwarrior 3 had destructible environment including destructible ground.

Heh, I did it on Battlescape :) .

With traditional family values, the son through the vagaries of sperm count and love mate's ovary cycles and the mythic genetic coding of dual spiraling DNA helix ...

Behold the power of Fool's Logic:

""You can pick your nose, and you can pick your friends, but you can't pick your friend's nose"".

Behold the power of FO3 in bullet point 10,

"You can pick your nose, and you can't pick your father [Liam N. is a given], but you can pick your Father's NOSE!"

Behold FO3 - BE All You Can BE - be your own Grandpa!

When it comes to destructible enironment, I have Red Faction... And it's also FPS so it's pretty close to FO3!

Every game needs more destructible terrain and gravity guns and portal guns.

 It would be funnier if I wasn't serious
