Fallout 3 at LGC: GameSpy

I'm not sure what Morbus is referring to, but Allen Rausch (of Gamespy) once wrote that he hoped Fallout 3 would be successful because it would piss off NMA. It's far from the nastiest thing he's said nor should we really care about it.

meh, I really am not bothered by media outlets or video game companies mocking their critics...

I mean come on, most on this board have said far worse about about media outlets and video game companies then they have ever come close to mocking in their games.

For some definitions of "most".

Heh. We arrived at bizarro land, where a bunch of guys posting on a forum have the same obligation to be reasonable and polite as professionals in their publications.

OR NOT?!

Wasn't the guy who wished Fallout fans a horrible and fiery death also from Gamespy? Some staff they got there.

Sure, but noone here is acting in a professional capacity. If you are a gaming journalist and you flame a group of people, it reflects badly on your employer. It's just not something a good professional should do, ever. Which is all the more reason for us to give them shit, frankly.

or they just find making fun of video game players who take themselves and their games way too serious as a fun past time
If it was just a joke then that is fine. However, there is nothing in the least bit funny if they are padding scores or reviewing games with a secret bias - especially since so many people use game review scores to decide whether or not to spend their $50 (US) on something.

Yeah, maybe that was that. It was like what, a year ago? Maybe more, I don't remember. Still, it accounts for pretty much the same, and the utterly idiotic mindnumbing amount of bullshit they published in their preview proves my point. Look: "Bethesda clearly has a solid understanding of the appeal behind the franchise, and has taken great steps towards recreating and even improving upon the most important aspects of the classic PC role-playing games. Even the most die-hard Fallout fan couldn't ask for anything more."

I personally love Gamespy. That and Something Awful. And Voodoo Extreme. And Destructoid too. Well, not so much, they said they want us dead so...

It was desctructoid. In a podcast full of mouthbreading assclowns uhing and likeing for about a hour and a half

Gaming journalism is a straight up joke anyway. The internet has pretty much killed the industry, and they're all trying to pull in readers from wherever they can.

Look at the reviews for Too Human. It's not even close to a 10/10 game, but it's a respectable 7 or 7.5 easily. Many of the game review sites have given it incredibly low scores, many of which don't even reflect the written article.

Review sites also put too much weight on 'insider information'. I don't care if the developer is a nice guy or an asshole. I don't care if the fans are shining beacons of humanity or inbred neo-nazi's. All I want the review to tell me is:

1) What's the gameplay like?
2) Are there game-breaking problems?
3) What's the difference between the platforms?
4) Is it fun?

Also, I realize that they're trying to get reviews out fast and before launch, but quit presenting preview builds as final product. Make it very clear at the beginning if the game is the version that's shipping, and how much playtime you had. I want to know if the review sat down and played 8 hours of the final review, or 30 minutes of a preview at the dev's office.

Right now, the only review place I trust is the rental shop down the street, and SomethingAwful.

lol, I never said I expect anyone on a message board to act professional, just that it doesn't bother me that media outlets and video games respond to the faceless masses who criticize them by moking them.

Its just as much a right of the them to mock us as it is us to gripe about them on a MB.

Geez didn't know ya'll were so sensitive.

As for the reviews... lol I never said they were objective. Most of them are working to push product just as much as the developers.

No, that was Rausch/Gamespy too. If you're going to hold grudges, at least get them straight.

Yeah, you're right, my bad. Destructoid was the one from the infamous "I'm looking at you, NMA".

I mean... Come, on.
