Fallout 3 - First Mods

The good reviews still pouring in for FO3 are just insulting. You seriously have to wonder if most reviewers even played the game.

What amuses me is how buggy and near unplayable the game appears to be across all three of it's platforms. I mean that's just hilarious to me. It's unfortunate how many PC games are let out in a poor state with the developers shrugging and thinking they'll patch later, it's lazy and insults the customer base, but leaving such major bugs in the XBOX and PS3 release is anwesome low. I read you've got to go out of your way on the PS3 not to crash during the GOAT in the intro. That's just special that is.

The pathing is horrendous a lot of times, even in the scripted part of the intro they couldn't time the NPCs turning the test into the teacher correctly. How do you mess up pathing during a scripted event? I actually spent 15 minutes trying to use collision to push some students around so I could hear the dialog of one of the students, but it would just neve initiate cause she kept getting run over by the dialog of the girl in front of her.

In a game that was designed with that feature in mind.

It's impossible. Bugs and glitches can be fixed, but stupid design is forever.

Stops telling you where to go, and stops showing enemy locations on your HUD.

effectively making perception completely useless? yeah, that's great.

I could do without quest markers, but considering you often have to go between several metro stations to reach your goal it could be very frustrating.

Hand holding can go too far much of the time, although I think a lot of the immersion this and imersion that complaints about HUDs are silly.

Still.

Removing all waypoints in the game to everyone seems kind of retarded to me considering there are no other directions in the game whatsoever and the land mass to wander hoping you'll find something is quite large.

It's not like any of the quest givers I've met say go east for yadda yadda then hang a left at the overturned nukacola truck.

Given no other directions the waypoints are all you have.

Deadspace? Big disappointment imho. Im not going to point out the mouse movement or horrible camera but the game itself is like fallout 3. Kinda good idea, bad execution.

On the mods, Im not going to install any of them, and geiger counter module in pipboy is not a bad idea.

So, no child killing mod yet? I take it that means that unsetting the "invulnerable quest NPCs" flag in the INI didn't work.

Why not call it a global mortal NPC mod, and at least mask your intentions? FREAK

In my Vault of Regrets mod, ghostly child-sized figures in funky armour will float around spouting one-liners in the voice of Tony Jay.

Yeah, that would hurt perception and the stealth game, which currently work fairly well together. I can understand why people would want to get rid of the compass marker, but I've found that it is easy to ignore in this game. You don't get those pop-up windows like Oblivion.

Dead Space? Really?

I tried playing that on my PC and between the shitty mouse movement and the god awful camera I gave up.
You know... disable V-Sync.

I have an LCD monitor. Have you ever disabled V-Sync with a game that has that many strobe light effects? Ever hear of screen tearing?

yeah this is really true, any mod to remove the quest compass will need to add in signs in the subways, I don't see how anyone could find their way between some of the downtown places otherwise

Enable V-Sync in driver (Catalyst for me)... no?

Wow, still bashing 3 eh? IMO Bethesda did a great job keeping the fallout feeling alive in it. I was one of the most worried it was going to be oblivion with guns. It's really quite a surprise how well it turned out. I was expecting the worst, so when I got it, the good parts of it showed much more than the bad.

IMO it's the best Fallout game we could have gotten ten years after the last one was released.

And let's get real a second, is it worse than Tactics or the PS2 abomination? I think not, it's far better than those two.

Children aren't invulnerable like the quest NPCs: quest NPCs can be knocked out but not killed, children can't be hit at all.

Indeed. It's better than Tactics and POS put together.

It plays a lot like Deus Ex 1, which is great.

If there was a mod to just remove the clear triangles (places you havent found yet), that would be good.

Yeah, that would be the ideal solution. That part's complete hand holding, and makes exploration kind of a moot point. While quest marker sort of is as well (as is the custom marker you can put on the map that will lead you through subways and things) it would make it incredibly difficult to navigate the metro tunnels.

Like I said in another post though, the enemy markers, which are governed by Perception aren't hand-holding, they're based on your character skill, and unless you crank perception (and there isn't much reason to do so in this game, aside from this very feature) they don't even show up early enough to be overpowering. However, it's nice that for a sneaky character could invest in Per to make his life easier, you get rid of this feature and the entire stats becomes useless.

That said, once more tools become available, I hope someone mods Per to affect your accuracy or reduce range penalties, like in the originals.

I yelled at my screen more than once when I was running around the citadel. What the fuck has Bethesda done to the BoS? Oh my god. "Steel be with you." "In the name of Elder Lyons!" Two BoS knights even had a conversation about whether or not a battlecry sounded gallant enough.

Yeah, the BoS in this one are annoying. But...

[spoiler:e190c48ea7]I did get some satisfaction from meeting the "outcast" BoS though. You can go talk to their leader at a fort south-west of Megaton somewhere, near Fairfax ruins, and he essentially tells you that the BoS in DC forgot their mission and decided to play hero to the locals instead, so the outcasts defected to focus on the Brotherhood's real agenda and are pretty pissed at Lyons.

When I found this place I was glad they at least acknowledged that the BoS were totally backwards, and why, though I would have preferred for the goody-goody ones "saving DC" to be the outcasts.[/spoiler:e190c48ea7]

Edit: Sorry, didn't think that was a spoiler really, it's not part of the main quest (I think), you just sort of have to stumble onto it.
