Canadian GameFocus can not hide its love of Fallout 3, awarding it overally Game of the Year, RPG of the Year, Best Soundtrack and Runner-Up in Xbox 360 Game of the Year, as well as making Bethesda the Runner-Up Best Studio.<blockquote>There has been no better reason to be an RPG fan than this instant classic epic game from Bethesda. Those should be the categories. Fallout 3 has been nominated for excellence in the fields of Epic Lulz, Omg Haxx, Y Helo Thar and Longcat.
 
Best soundtrack ? Fuck that !!! Seriously now. Did they play Dead Space ? The ambient soundtrack ( and I'm not even talking about the incredible sound effects ) litteraly shits on Inon Zur's generic/lame-ass work.

Making no sense, like that thing BN posted a couple posts ago. It's not like the emmies where you could have best actor, but not best picture, and vice versa. Game of the Year encompasses best game on platforms - unless there's something that takes unique advantage of the platform? But then it would be a better game and GOTY.
 
Like Xplay :roll: . Fable 2 for Game of the year and Fallout 3 for RPG of the Year. The funny thing is when Attack of the Show confronted Adam Sessler from XPLAY about the review he offered no justifiable explanation for it. He just said Fable 2 was "Fresh" and Fallout 3 was "awesomez". *BARF* :slap:
 
I'd accept the view that Fallout 3 is a good game, but it's definitely not a good RPG. It's just not about the role-play as much as all the "pew-pew! OMG ur hed ixplodid!!! lolz!!" action...

And giving it the title of the best RPG of the Year is a sin when there is Fable 2...

Really? I mean really really? I haven't played Fable 2 (no SexBox in my house, this is CHRISTIAN home, thank you very much), but from what I understood from my chief over at GB, there's nothing to that game that makes it beat Fallout 3, certainly not as an RPG

It's been a really, really weak year for RPGs, anyway. Even indies offered little respite.
 
I agree. A very bad year for Rpgs. Are there any good ones coming out?
 
This year still? No.

Rise of the Argonauts might be a decent hack 'n slash but that's it.

Next year we have Drakensang, CD Projekt Red should unveil some new stuff, AoD might hit, Eschalon: Book II might pop up and Geneforge 5 is bound to hit PCs. So whatever happens, 2009 already looks better than 2008

2007 kinda spoiled us a bit I guess
 
Yes, dirty cheating Polacks have it this year.

It doesn't look like much special tho'. Still, a decent RPG with some classic roleplaying will be a breath of fresh air in a year where the best RPGs are two action-RPGs and a strategy-RPG.

The Germans tend to start their international conquests with Poland.

There's also Dragon Age next year. Probably nothing special, but a standard BioWare game is still better than what we got this year.

Seems like they are trying to make classic into as big a weasel word as epic, immersive, and innovative. How can a game be a classic when it was released a couple of months ago. A classic is something that has stood the test of time and so is still considered the be of particularly high quality or memorable years after it was made. Calling a 3 month old game a classic is like calling a newly constructed building "rich in history".

You can get STI's and have gay(and lesbian) sex. Also all the buildings in the towns and cities are buyable. Also chatting to people by farting and pumping arms does beat alot of Fallout 3 dialogue. Also Kids are presented way better, almost like the Kids in Klamath.

Hmm, I should look around for a Polish version :twisted: Hopefully it will have subtitles in other languages, I can only barely understand the language.

But yeah, nothing great this year (except for the FFFTA2 US release), but next year should be great with FFXIII for PS3 and Last Remnant coming to PC.
 
Avernum 5 beats the shit out of F3 in the rpg department, hands down. Though TECHNICALLY it is a '07 game, the windows version dates '08, so fuck it. I refuse to acknowledge ze macs.
