Fallout 3 hands-on at E3 is press only

Bethesda community manager Matt Grandstaff clarified some remarks from previews. The question was: E3 will have a hands-on playable version of Fallout 3. But will it be on the floor or press only?
Yeah, some folks were able to get their hands on the game last year. As you said, part of that criteria was that judges had to be able to see that the game was "playable."

Talking with Pete, at this year's E3, folks will be able to play the game. To what length they'll be able to play it, I suppose that depends on how much time schedules permit, how many folks are checking out the game, etc. E3 can be pretty hectic.
(...)
As it was last year, E3 is a press only event, so Folks = Press.
How Bethesda.

Though I should note it was fairly easy to get into E3 last year, but it sounds like they're managing who gets to play, probably have a sign-up list like they did with the showings.

So will NMA get its hands on it? Who knows.

Hopefully you guys will get your hands on it. I would like to see a non-mainstream news site get their hands on it and give us an honest representation of what to expect.

And if you dont get in i hope you guys get drunk off Nuka-Cola and tip their brammen over!

All the other news sites you still have to take news with a grain of salt...

Folks=Press...
So pretty much all the guys who have already been kneeling before Bethesda and blowing hard get to try it again at E3... and will be able to have one giant mass orgy of praise before F3 officially is released.... and screws all of us. Bravo.

I really wish there was a greater level of diplomacy between Bethesda and you guys. I mean, look at EA. They fly out all the community leaders in the C&C fandom and bring them to their LA offices for a big meet and greet/interviews/presentations whenever they're deving a new Command & Conquer product.

will they be at PAX? that might be a better opportunity for fans to get hands on with it.

You're going to E3? Or who would be representing NMA (if only privately)?

So as I understand it, only the media who have been fellating Bethesda, both literally(?) and figuratively, for the past couple of years will have the opportunity to do so again at E3?

"Epic...OMG...immershun...LOL headshot...game of the year...epic...." These are the sounds that will be emanating from Bethesda's booth, no doubt.

Heh. Every contact NMA has ever had with any game we've ever followed, be it Fallout or otherwise, has been more diplomatic than Bethesda-NMA. They're the worst I've ever seen. Ever.

You're going to E3?

I sure as hell am not. I don't have the funds, and NMA certainly can't afford to fly me over. Besides, I don't have time, either.

Wether or not everyone attending E3 gets to play it (ie. it's part of a Bethesda booth at the show floor), or Bethesda themselves handpicks a handfull of journalists already on the E3-list to play it is not completely clear from the wording.
Still, I find the first option more likely, as it is by far the most common way of showing off near-completed games when you bring a hands-on build to a game convention.

If the game is indeed playable by anyone attending E3, it would be great if someone from NMA - preferably living nearby - managed to get tickets to the show and try the game out.

Heh, yes it would.
I think BEthesda is a lot more careful since Leipzig though.
But besides that, it's in the USA and almost all of our staff members are Europeans, making it even tougher to get there.

Say, who was the helpful chap who asked that question, anyways?

And if it's been scaled down to a press-only event (which it has) I don't think "how Bethesda" is really being honest.

C'mon, BN. Desslock can probably get you an invite. Start a paper route or something and get some tix to LA. It'd sure beat having to stomach all these overwhelmingly positive reviews it's sure to gather up in the fall, all while knowing that the truth is still out there...

If I hit the Mega Millions tonight I'll spring for the tickets myself.
