Fallout 3 has PC achievements & more tidbits

they haven't got the best PR people in the world.

They seem to constantly choose the wrong phrases. "Cut off" limbs from the other day and now "we need to put some more"

none of these inspire confidence, does this guy think about what hes going to say before he starts the interviews?

maybe hes trying to come off as casual but hes not doing bethesda any favours.

So whats the deal with Gears of War for the PC, do i need to get a gold account to play online?

All you need is Hamachi.

Shoot me a message on Xfire (syn88), and I'll show you how to setup to play Gears online without that games for windows bullshit (Fairly painless, and won't require a gold account. The silver accounts are severely gimped).

Uh, ok, explain to me real quick how circumventing a paid service is legal, or this goes.

Circumventing the paid service would involve getting gold account privileges without paying. This is not possible.

Hamachi simply lets users connect to one another through an artificial LAN (LAN access is built in the game, and does not require a silver OR gold account to access).

It isn't breaking any rules, its simply an alternative to setting up a physical lan to play with friends.

What's it with this stupid achievements shit? Do people really go to their friends and tell them "hey look, i've finally got the 'nicest dude in the world' achievement"? I mean how stupid is that?

Well, maybe it's not at all like this and achievements actually serve a purpose.. I've never played a game that had this, so please tell me i'm wrong in my assumptions.

Nope, achievements are the equivalent of having a dick-hat.

You basically attempt to make your dick-hat as big as possible to impress your friends with how big your dick-hat is.

As for what the dick-hat actually does, that's a big ass heap of nothing.

But the majority of Xbox fans act like they're some magnificent way to boost replayability and the fun factor of their games.

They are if they're interesting and rely on the player going out of his way to do fun things that the game normally doesn't require you to do.

It's pretty dull to play a game and have an achievement that asks you to complete a level or difficulty to unlock and achievement.
But when it asks you to kill a room full of hostages while your character goes psychotic then it's a bit more entertaining, even if you don't like the rest of the game Kane & Lynch had some interesting achievements.

The new Team Fortress 2 medic achievements give you new weapons.
They're pretty neat, except for the whole "achievement whores get an extra advantage in a multiplayer game" thing.

They're only for PC and don't use the Windows Live shit though, so I'm not sure if they count. :P

Older followers of Bethesda will remember they also said you can't join all the guilds in one playthrough in Oblivion. Bethesda has some weird ideas about what "can't do all" means, exactly.

Actually, they said that it would be "very difficult" to complete all the guild quests in one playthrough of Oblivion, not that you couldn't do it.

Although, I would still question the claim of it even being difficult, its an important distinction.

You don't have to question anything about that claim, if you played it you know it isn't true without question. There is nothing about completing one line of quests that makes completing another any more difficult.

Arrrg...windows live basically prevented me from playing gears of war on my pc for a good while, due to a constant crash 2 secs into the game.
couldn't move an inch until they patched windows live. Hope i do not get the same experience just after purchase :(

If Bethesda's going to keep doing interviews like that, they might as well stop beating about the bush, and just tell us straight out that it's going to be a shitty game. It would still leave a bad impression, but they might get a decent amount of respect for their honesty.
