Fallout 3 office speed run competition

Bethesda has held its traditional office speed run competition.
Back at E3, Todd talked some game — claiming that when it came for the speed run, he’d be the one coming out victorious. Umm…not quite. The finals came down to level designer Jeff “Live the Dream” Browne and QA Tester (and the most recent cover boy for Inside the Vault) Sam”I Am” Bernstein.

The final showdown began at 11am with both guys starting from the exact same point. The winner would be determined by who gets to the game ending first.

Early on, Sam coasted through the character generation process — providing him a 1-2 minute cushion that lasted throughout most of the run. You would have thought he was leading by a lot more, as he casually bopped his head to music (more on that later).
Link: Fallout 3 Speed Run: It was that close.

Thanks Ausir.

there's some pretty shitty music on there. final fantasy 7 for 1/4 of the playlist :?

What gives with the montage music?

Okay nuff said, 75 minutes isn't horrible for a speed run. Fallout 2 could be beaten in 9 minutes I believe?

I don't know about that. Sure, it's pretty long, and if the devs themselves took over an hour to beat the game by rushing it most people will probably spend a lot more than that, though the 20 hours Todd promised us (at around 5:05) seem a bit too much.

What bothers me is that a speedrun this long reeks of a very linear main quest, with few skippable parts. It doesn't have to be like the originals where you could just head to the Military Base/Cathedral or San Francisco/Navarro/Enclave to finish the game, but I fear there might be no optional instances like the Water Merchants to Fallout 3.

Hehe 75 minutes is quite good, and quite long for a speed run.

Todd mentioned a trick, I wonder what it is :p

And I believe there will be optional instances like the water merchants, I just hope it's not timed, that was a pain in the ass having to play quickly, I like to take my time thanks very much. At least FO2 fixed this :p (Unless you spend 13 years playing :D)

I really like how they credit all the songs from Cowboy Bebop as being performed by Cowboy Bebop.

That's like when Homer wrote letters to movies.

"Dear Die Hard,

You rock! Especially that part when the guy was on the roof.

P.S. Do you know Mad Max?"

Also, what's up with people liking Final Countdown now? Laibach's version is so much better anyway...

Final Countdown is good now because of arrested development, though it's only good if you refer to it as "Gob's Theme".

1 minute to enter VATS and watch the slowmo shot of you shooting him in the eye with your trusty BB gun as a child, then 36 minutes to charge the controller, 1 minute to critically shoot him in the eye again with your BB gun, and then another 36 minutes to recharge the controller... again, then finally 1 minute to fire the third and final shot.

Needless to say, all this will happen while he walks around awkwardly trying to pick up a baby rattle to defend himself with, which is how you can kill him so easy.
