Killzig noted something added to the XBox Live marketplace:<blockquote>Fallout 3
Post Nuclear Roleplaying

"Vault Tec engineers have worked around the clock on an interactive reproduction of Wasteland life for you to enjoy from the comfort of your own vault. Fallout 3 includes an expansive world, unique combat, shockingly realistic visuals, tons of player choice, and an incredible cast of dynamic characters. Every minute is a fight for survival against the terrors of the outside world -- radiation, Super Mutants, and hostile mutated creatures. From Vault-Tec(r), America's First Choice in Post-Nuclear Simulation(tm)."</blockquote>Pete Hines adds the following:<blockquote>Many of us here have been waiting and wanting Fallout stuff to use for a gamer pics and themes since…forever. Finally today the wait is over as you can now grab a pack of Fallout 3 gamer pics. The pic pack (100 points) features several variations of Vault Boy plus a Brotherhood of Steel image, as well as a theme (150 points) for your Live blades featuring the Craig Mullins concept art you’ve undoubtably seen already.

Finally, a pic to match my motto. And, if you want to see the teaser trailer in full 720p glory, you can download that off of Live as well.</blockquote>

"Unique combat"- it just makes me want to go there, make aimed groin-kick and yell 'THERE'S NOTHING UNIQUE ABOUT RTWP YOU STUPID F**K!'
But, then again, I'm too lazy.

Super mutants- seriously, if any SM made it to the East Coast there should be limited 'amount' of them and yet they're saying things like they're swarming there... It seems like the generic_monsters have been changed to generic_supermutant_encounter.

Oh and pic packs rock -,-

Hm.. this sounds like "I am running around in the world and all 10 meters I have to kill some bastard enemymutant thing."

Makes me kinda think of Resident Evil...I mean, Fallout 1 and 2 had a lot of stuff to kill and a lot of dangerous individuals, but I didn't feel like I was fighting for survival every minute....especially not when I was getting a "bath" from Jenny.

you have to buy a teaser of pictures? what?

It's basically wallpaper for Xbox 360 dashboards. That you have to pay for, yes.
The profiteering has begun early.

If i read that correctly (and i know next to nothing about the X Box and absolutely nothing about X Box Live), then that means the first official Fallout 3 downloadable stuff (pictures of Vault Boy, themes and whatever) is available ONLY to X Box users who have these card things? Not unexpected, but jesus.....looks like they've reserved their groin criticals for us fans.

To 360 users who spend real money for MS Points, which they then spend on stuff like this. Essentially wallpapers as I've said, and avatars.
It's not surprising. This way they make money for M$ and butter up their target audience, Xbox users.

Amazing isn't it? How MS can convince players to pay for wallpapers and avatars? And all the game companies just follow along and tow the line....

Xbox sucks. I don't like this cubus thing.. X_x

Well.. I think, the only reason, why they develop the game for PC too is, to not totaly piss us off... because, nearly everything that happend till yet has everytime something to do with this xbox thing...

No doubt MS' only regret is that they can't make PC users do this.
Yet.

If Beth were to sell PC themes, they would probably sell loads.. gullibility is not exclusive to the 360 crowd.

Heck, check out GameWallpapers they have a subscription service... just for wallpapers. Given they are proffiting from the IP of the publishers, and haven't been sued out of existence - the dev's are either getting a tiny cut, or have given the nod of approval.

Welcome to teh capitalist world, air costs extra :P

Hmmm, if the current series of events continues then sometime next year Xbox users will be required to have to pay to put air in the ball for sports games or to put tires in the car for racing games. Brave new world huh?

And also, wasn't Vault-tec(r) America's First Choice in Surviving the End of the F*cking World(tm)?

Microtransactions are a big part of "next gen" ... by restricting what you can do on your own console (as far as displaying avatars/themes/etc) they sell back that customization. I think EA already did the "ship an incomplete game and sell them the wheels after the fact" thing with the last NFS game. There was a pretty considerable shit storm with it. Last week Ubisoft wanted to release map packs for Rainbow Six Vegas for free but M$ made them charge 800M$ points a crack. After a huge outcry they're being rereleased free and a refund will be given on 1/2 packs. If you paid for that other one you're SOL.

There are some good points to Live. HD Movie downloads, digital distribution for smaller games, etc but it definitely doesn't justify all the bullshit that goes on and all the nickel & diming on said smaller games.

Don't worry, they're coming for your PC next. LIVE ANYWHERE? PAY EVERYWHERE.

the theme is pretty weak.

turns your guide background to the default silver/grey metallic drab look.

yes, people pay for this. MS Points are like disney dollars but less useful. Non transferable. Non refundable.

Geez, you would have thought at least it would have been good looking stuff. To be honest, I find that the new Vaultboy Beth has been using looks a bit weird....is that just me? Am I seeing things? :P

that's just sad...

I wonder if they will charge for a Power Armor hardening process.

Hardened Power Armor? No prob. That'll be $4,99. Anything else? A steel dildo? Sure thing. That's on the house. *wink*
