Gamespy posted this on Fallout 3 in their most anticipated games of 2007 list (my bolding):
It hasn't been officially announced outside of the discreet posters we've seen at E3 for the last few years. It may not even be coming in 2007. But oh yes, do we want it. Fallout 3 is one of the games we've been most hungry for, and we're betting that this year we'll finally find out its development status. If you've played the first games in the series, it would be no surprise why this is one of our most highly anticipated titles. Fallout presented unprecedented levels of freedom to the player, allowing you to approach the game from different strategies. You could muscle your way through the games with guns blazing, tackle the objectives you came across with stealth, or even talk your way through to a satisfying ending. The series' non-linear approach was a refreshing take on previous role-playing games, and the adult humor, fascinating post-nuclear American setting, and incredible dialogue cemented the Fallout brand as one of PC gaming's most beloved franchises.
We really have nothing to go on as far as what Fallout 3 will be like. To describe the project as hush-hush would be an understatement. Fallout and Fallout 2 were both developed by the now defunct Black Isle Studios division of Interplay. On the other hand, the license is in quite capable hands with Bethesda Softworks. The same engine used to create The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, the Gamebryo engine, is being used to develop the game, which should bode well for providing an open-ended, non-linear experience that will ring true to fans of the previous games.
Contradicting himself a bit, the writer of the article apparently notes that fans of the originals should look forward to this game, which implies a similarity between the games, and then notes people should be happy it is using the Gamebryo engine, which can copy certain experiences from the Fallout games well, but I see a problem with mechanics. Thoughts?
