Fallout 3 will be playable by the public for the first time at the Penny Arcade Expo.<blockquote>We will have a booth at the show, and we’re planning to allow the public their first opportunity to play Fallout 3. That’s right, hands-on. Now, there’s gonna be 50,000 people or more at this show so they don’t get to sit down and play it for an hour, but we’ll have six kiosks setup in our booth for folks to come by and have a chance to take it for a spin.

We’ll also be handing out handy Vault Dweller Survival Guides to everyone that stops by the booth. These things are a must have, I love them. Really well done. Plus you have to come by and checkout the Airstream.

We’ll also be giving a new Fallout 3 demo in the Main Theatre on Saturday at 2:30pm. This is right after the Main Theatre session where Gabe and Tycho draw a strip, so I’m sure lots of people will already be over that way. It’s a pretty lengthy demo and I’ll be there along with Todd, Emil, and Istvan. We may have a chance to do a short Q&A with folks, I don’t know. Between the demo and what we have planned after the demo, we may be pretty short on time. If you like schwag, I wouldn’t leave early…that’s all I’m sayin’.

And speaking of demos there may be a new gameplay video coming out on Friday that will be a very condensed version of the PAX demo for everyone that doesn’t get to come see it, and to whet the appetite for everyone that will be coming.

Then on Saturday night we are sponsoring a Post-Apocalyptic Movie Night. It’s at 9 PM in Raven Theatre. The movies to be shown are voted on by you guys, and right now it looks like 12 Monkeys and The Road Warrior are in the lead.</blockquote>Link: Fallout 3 at PAX (1st Hands-On for the Public!).
 
I'm confused. Is this an actual demo or are they just limiting the time people get to play the game?
 
Tenbux the Survival Guide is thicker than the actual game's manual. Not knocking Bethesda though - all today's game publishers do it, the last thick, informative and interesting manual I got in a box was from NWN and ToEE.

Here's to possible dialog from the PAX demo and maybe some other interesting things.

If it's more combat well that's just a drag - I wouldn't be surprised if they just showcased the same areas over again.
 
I'm sure it's probably the same kind of deal they had at E3, Leipzig and X08. Stand in line, get rotated into a demo station for your X number of minutes, and then get kicked out so others can get in.
 
there is an expo for the unfunny web comic penny arcade? and there are 50000 people going? consider my mind blown

The guides seem like pretty good swag for just an expo. Of course it may just be a flimsy booklet, and nothing compared to the original guide/manual that came with the first Fallouts'.
 
I'll be there. I'll try it out and give you guys my opinion on it. I was planning on being there for RPGA D&D games and since I'm only 30 minutes away from Seattle I should check it out.

PA has traffic in the millions, not the thousands.

And regardless of their quality as a webcomic, PAX is pretty cool and the best hope for NA to have a serious gaming convention now that E3 is failing epically. I also really dig the work these guys do for Child's Play.

The quality of their webcomic or their personality? Eh.

PA is pretty good sometimes.
 
Of course PA is very popular. They have such a good marketing - many developers are promoting them and even think it's the opposite, that PA are the ones who support their games. I wish I'd be as smart as guys from Benny Arcade...
 
I'd love to be there, but just for the booky thing. Any possibility someone who may be there send me one of those things? :D
