I don't know if this has been available for a long time and we just missed it, but I think it went up around the same time the Survival Edition was announced. Prima Games - publisher of many official game guides - is doing the Fallout 3 official guide, which will be available October 7.

Who the hell buys game guides? What's the point? If you get stuck just ask for help in the forums or read a free walkthrough.

I miss the old days when that was a non-question.

Ever tried playing on the old Gold Box games or Realms of Arkania without a guide? It's nightmare time.

They kind of lost their purpose now. And with games being as easy and intuitive as they are, they're not just replaceable by internet, they're just not necessary at all.

The only times I need a guide these days is when quests are badly designed and require a special, illogical tactic to finish

Master of Orion was awesome, but only had one problem.
If you lost your guide/manual, you were screwed. Well, unless you were good at memorizing ship models.

Anyway, that guide is looking pretty damn skinny. Hopefully it's only for looks.

It looks slightly smaller than the Oblivion guide. My friend owns it and it looks like a fackin' bible sitting on his shelfs. Although, playing Oblivion myself I dunno why anyone would need a guide. Compass shows you were to go, along with the Journal, and fast travel.

Prolly won't be needing one for Fallout 3 either.

Not to sound harsh, but if you need a walkthrough for Fallout 3, you're probably one of those people that buys the "for Dummies" book series.

"How to use a doorknob."
"Eating with a spoon (without spilling milk, wow!)"

etc.

I can summarize the guide for fallout 3 in two sentences:

Did you try clicking on it?

Did you try not clicking on it?

Oh wait, the whole "clicking" thing would leave the console only gamers in the dark, guess a guide is needed after all!

And since someone was kind enough to bring up master of orion, I just gotta flaunt my e-peen for a second. I once won a game of MOO2 on impossible without 'creative' as a racial trait. I am win!

time to go back to swillin some lagers, peace!

Sealab rocks!

Collect'em All!

Collect'em All!

Would prefer this forbidden fruit be Per's, and he cleared a dime for each dollar, but ...

Whether prosthesis, road map, or holy relic,

pour this Prima into the price point / shelf space / time resource -- glass.

One third the basic box price,
less then half the box shelf space,
single digit reading time to consume.

For the fashion fascists: old print school nostalgia chic!

Perhaps this collectable is all one requires.

More options to tease the jaded, time challenged, sleep deprived!

Another option branch on Reel Life's(tm) diorama / drama dialogue tree!

dammit....who needs a fucking guide....release a mother fucking gameplay video already !
Can't believe it !!!

Sometimes a game-guide will actually give you helpful advice on different gamestyles. Other times it´s a total waste of time.

And for games like F1 and F2, where you could actually solve situations akin to roleplaying, I guess it makes sense with a guide. I did not get that feeling playing Oblivion though... A quest once entered was mostly linear. Maybe F3 will be a cross between the old style Fallout and Oblivion, with some variability within quests. Mostly for the console cattle but an odd bone or two for the cult

*Sorry poor english, I´m a mutant*

How will that work in FO3 then?
"Notice that you can also kill this group of super-mutants by using your plasma rifle or tearing them to shreds with your minigun. The choice is yours!"
And useful advice? "Remember! When Dogmeat is killed, he stays dead!"
