Fallout 3 will be at E3

The Bethesda Blog put up word that yes, Fallout 3 will be at E3, to beat any possibly rumours that they won't be caused by the ESA attendants list.
Yes, Bethesda Softworks will be at this year’s E3 in LA.

Yes, we will have Fallout 3 there.

No, I don’t know why the ESA sent out a list that did not include us, just like they did last year. Maybe it’s because the had to go to print at a certain point and we hadn’t picked our space yet. No idea.

But we’ll be there and so will Fallout 3.
Meanwhile, E3 is creaking heavily at the joints now that giant publisher/developer Activision-Vivendi (also called Activision-Blizzard/Sierra, representing about 15% of the worldwide gaming industry) has declared they're not coming, as well as Atlus, Majesco, NCsoft and WBIE and others (story here).

Interesting to see that Activision-Vivendi won't be showing up on E3. I wonder why :?

Edit: Not that I care too much, as long as they make a really good Starcraft 2 :D

With a lot of the main publishers out of the way, it will be easier for Bethesda to impress the press... unless there is something else at E3 that will be mind-blowing.

Oh, I dunno, still plenty left to knock heads with, like...uh...Spore. But yeah, Fallout 3 might well be one of the biggest titles.

I'm more curious to see E3 lose grounds to the likes of PAX and GDC. It is really starting to lose its old dominance.

Heh, you think Fallout 3 will beat the hype GTA IV is getting? I know journalists have short term memories and all, but I suspect GTA IV is out of Fallout 3's league. Especially since Fallout 3 can't be discussed without mentioning the criticasters: every Fallout 3 preview and interview out there mentions there's a lot of criticism.

Yup, "GOTY" surely has to be GTA4. That damn game (PS3 version) still has a rating of 100 over on Metacritic. I didn't know that doing more of the same 'ol, same 'ol only with shinier graphics was "groundbreaking", but that's what most reviewers seem to think.

Also, GTA4 apparently cures cancer as well.

GTA4's been getting some fairly negative replies on forums I've seen, though. Well, mostly negative in the "It's a pretty good GTA game" sense. Sounds like the cars are way too squirrelly and the lack of mid-mission checkpoints is annoying. Just hearsay though, haven't picked it up yet.

It sounds good from what I've heard, the biggest issue being some game-stopping bugs and - as you said - some vehicular problems.

I dunno, maybe people are finally becoming jaded enough to just let all the hyperbole flow past. I doubt it, tho'

Oh dude, we're beyond that, it's not even been out a week and NPR of all places did a big piece on GTA:IVs depth of narrative and "games as art" today. Funny to hear Tom Ashbrook talk about the societal repercussions of beating 'hos with baseball bats. GTA has no lack of critics either, but their critics are usually parents, teachers and Joe Lieberman, the kind of stodgy faction that gives the game greater cache and street cred.

GTA IV is by far the shoe in for game of the year.

That game series all but screams THUMP YOUR CHEST. The more mindlessly violent and verbally abusive you get, the bigger your potential audience.

My computer took a shit recently so I have been playing a little WOW at my local PC house. Jesus christ you should hear the kinda kids that show up there.

Hell they are more like gorillas than human beings honestly.

PS

Maybe Blizz wants to shore up its own Blizzcon so why unveil info anywhere else. Don't know about the other publishers though.

I'm assuming only the press is going to be allowed access to said E3; since regular people suck so much.

But, maybe since no one is attending, they could ease up a bit and let some people in? :)

Hmmmm. Picked up GTA4 today and fiddled with it for a couple hours. The driving isn't as bad as I was lead to believe, but is noticeably more difficult than the others. I think the worst part is the camera, which I think I could actually improve, buuut I forgot what the camera changing button was and was having too much fun squishing people to open the manual to check.

Most games give a pretty good impression early on and thus far GTA4's no different. Assuming you like GTA games in the first place, anyway.

Out of curiosity does GTA IV have that whole driving skill (and all the other skills) thing San Andreas had? Flipping your car at every bend got annoying quite quickly.

E3 has really lost all of its pizazz since the whole press only thing, oh well, I guess another wave of identical previews is a comin'. Heres hoping for some gameplay videos.

Nope, it's got none of the stats/skills of San Andreas. Customization options look like they're fewer too, as I've only found one clothes store and I've heard you can't get different haircuts or tattoos. Looks like you get a few choices and consequences (God damn that term) however, as even just playing it a little I've had the option to kill or not to kill a guy in a mission, which may or may not bite me in the ass later. Things like that might make it worth actually replaying, instead of just spending the rest of the after-game time exploring and smacktarding.

Yeah, we're getting more and more games with C&C these days, which is only a good thing. Too bad they only realized that this late, of course, but what can we do?

StarCraft 2 will have C&C too, you know? And Diablo 3 has been said to have more of them, which is already starting to piss some fans off, including me... The irony!

Diablo 3 has been announced?! This is news to me.

I know it's not out in the US yet but Wii Fit is selling like crazy in the UK and Ireland, it's actually outselling both versions of GTA by a substantial margin in some stores. There are quite a few contenders for game of the year, I can't see Fallout 3 being it (at least in Ireland anyway)

No. Just more-or-less unofficially confirmed. Blizzard recently took over diablo3.com from the fan who was holding it.

Normally I'd say "yeah, Diablo is not the place for that", but let's be honest, the hack 'n slash genre absolutely stagnated after Diablo. The only thing we got were good copies of Diablo. If no one else is going to innovate and move the hack 'n slash genre forward, Blizzard will have to.

Well, with Blizzard's Worldwide Invitational coming up in June, I won't be surprised if Diablo 3 is officially confirmed for 2009.

I don't think so. I read about it having C&C though, but I don't know if that's true... I'm not very much into info-digging on Blizzard's titles. They're so massive the info is shoved to my face anyway.

Genre blending is not moving forward. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the moving forward, but choices & consequences may spoil the fun in a game like Diablo. Besides, Blizzard has no experience with it, so it prove to be a failed attempt at providing choices.
