Fallout 4: One Year Later

Can you actually believe that I can barely recall any more what Fallout 4 is about, and in general I consider myself a big Fallout expert, almost on the level of Ausir regarding in game lore. (less so on the games' background)

I played it for a month after its release and then never touched it again. (well I was also really really depressed at the time)
And to this day I still don't want to play this game again.

For me this is the point at which the Fallout franchise truly "died", I could have said so around the time of when Van Buren was canceled in favor of FOPOS, or when Fallout 3 was released, but at least we still go Fallout New Vegas how flawed that game sometimes may be.

I don't have any delusions on how Fallout 5 will turn out, most likely it will recycle elements from Fallout 3 and 4 again.
There will be running zombie ghouls that take a lot of punishment, more Super Mutants from yet another source, Vaults with wacky experiments, probably another new type of Power Armor, and the BOS who is out to establish an East Coast government despite doing nothing for the local populations other than occasionally shooting raiders, creatures, and mutants.

Unless Bethesda goes broke and is forced to sell the license there is no hope for it to ever being restored.
Worse, I expect a reboot sooner or later.

Even if they sell the IP, the buyer will probably be another AAA company that would want to emulate Beth successes. Imo, The future of the franchise is in the hands of the community, not the branded releases.

Yup, the Fallout is in community's hands. Though it's too hard doing actual incline with tools Bethesda dropped on people with F4 Construction Set.

There are still Fo1-Fo2-FoT-Fo3-FoNV engines and fan-made engines.

I would love to see a good fan engine in which all the Fallout 1 and 2 models (and perhaps some of Fallout Tactics and Fallout New Vegas well as original material) were recreated and could be used to make a whole new game.

At this point I would not want to see any attempt be done at recreating Van Buren any more. That station has longed passed sadly.
Rather I would really like to see a team use a different part of the US and create their own locations, factions, and so on there.
Recurring elements like Vaults, Ghouls, Power Armor, and perhaps Super Mutants can still be used but for the rest just introduce new governments, cults, and so on.

But I don't think we will ever see something like that, Zenimax would probably force it to shut down any way.

I don't think that Hexer project to port Van Buren on the Fonline engine will be abandoned. It is currently on hold, but so much was already made and the people involved seem committed to pursue the project when available.

Exploration -> Combat -> Gathering (repeat)

It's amazing how well this matches up with the "Supermutant's Orders" which is supposed to be a joke about how mindless supermutants are:

KILL
LOOT

RETURN

In other words, they've reduced supermutants to mindless ogres yet their standing orders match up perfectly with the main protagonist's.

The Fallout franchise is dead as long as Bethesda owns the IP. It's a shame such a beautiful franchise has turned into this monstrosity.

Maybe NMA should start some kind of crowd sourcing or project to gather enough money to buy the IP....
J/K

Yeah, I doubt future Fallout games will ever be anything comparable with the originals. Even Fallout New Vegas was kept back by using Gamebryo and have to pass "Bethesda's approval". :irked:
