"This is the only award that matters." -every BGS fan. Also BAFTA gives out video game awards, first I heard of it.

Mix it with Destiny and sprinkle some Borderlands in there and you get FO4.

    This is interesting:
I can't say if it's good or bad, but it is interesting. So the "top prize" is not chosen by the "experts" but by the members of Bafta :eyebrow: so what's the point in having "experts" award everything else?

I don't get it, but Bethesda seems to have a lot of people convinced FO4 is some kind of masterpiece. At DICE, it won GOTY and was nominated for "Outstading Achievement in Writing." Or actually, more likely they were bribed. Honestly though, at least to me, GOTY awards are meaningless, as every outlet hands one out, and very few ever go to a non-AAA game.

Doesn't matter, Witcher won the only reward that mattered and, more rewards than any other game last year, if I remember correctly.

Not sure why anyone would award best game to Fallout 4 over Witcher 3.

But in all fairness to Bethesda, other than Witcher 3 there wasn't really any AAA game in 2015 that was better than Fallout 4, unless I'm mistaken?

My favorite Critic Review on Metacritic sums up my feelings exactly: "Bethesda has laid solid and at times spectacular groundwork for an awesome game. I look forward to another developer building on it."

Metal Gear Solid 5, Alien: Isolation, Undertale, Arkham Knight, Hotline Miami 2, Mario Party 10, Pillars of Eternity, Mortal Kombat X, Mad Max, Super Mario Maker, Bloodborne and, Just Cause 3 all released last year.
EDIT: good recommendation @Spacemunkey, 2015 was a solid year for video games. Odd that the wikipedia page would say Bioshock Infinite released in 2015.

I don't play on console but if Bloodborne was as good as the rest of the Souls games I'd add that to the list of AAA games that are better than FO4.

Bioshock infinite was 2013. The others in that list are either not AAA games (Pillars was a kickstarter project, Undertale) or not as good as Fallout 4 in my opinion, with the one exception being that I did not play Metal Gear Solid 5 so I don't know about that one.

Arkham Knight has a 2.2 metacritic score for a reason as well.

So for me, as strange as it sounds, Fallout 4 was the second best AAA game of 2015 if I am comparing it to that list. But that's not really saying much - the other AAA games of 2015 aside from Witcher 3 are kind of shallow for me and I'm not interested in any of those other games besides Pillars of Eternity (which is great) and Just Cause 3 which I haven't played yet.

None of this really matters anyway because gaming awards are just marketing.

I don't understand why only AAA titles should be considered for GOTY, Undertale, PoE and, Hotline Miami were all fantastic games.
I wholeheartedly recommend Metal Gear Solid, by far and away my favourite game of the year, it's a shame it got stiffed by the GOTY awards because of it's shitty story.
Arkham Knight has a shitty rating because it was buggy as fuck on PC (it also had a shitty story), this site should understand that criticism about bugs should be a secondary concern to the overall worth of the product, after all New Vegas had the same problem.
From what I understand you like Fallout 4 as a Borderlands clone, not as a Fallout game which is fine but if you look at it as a sequel then it fails in just about every way. It takes what was formerly a great RPG franchises and turns it into a shooter; if we award games for streamlining systems that worked perfectly then we're actively taking part in and, advocating the dumbing down of video games and, games of literary worth at that, not your average dollar store shooter but a game that legitimately works as a critique on capitalism, Mccarthyism, Etc. If we give Bethesda awards for fucking up shit then we're actively taking part in fucking shit up.
Completely agreed, the awards are practically bought and sold.

Bloodborne is every bit as good as the Souls games (better in terms of the combat system), and miles better than Fallout 4 in every conceivable way. That's just my opinion, though. I liked MGS5 as well, just not as much as the earlier entries in the series.

I don't know what these obscure awards are, but I don't particularly care one way or the other what any popularity contest's results are. Popularity is not an indication of quality.

ok this is where shit gets really confusing and i question people's concept of reality. fallout was an excellent tech demo and proof of concept of what kind of storymaking platform could be made in like 1997 and it also featured original art and ideas which yes i'm sure there were ideas by who made them on how they would be expanded but a publisher was already involved making it a franchise which is of course the worst thing that could have ever happen to it, and it had already happened. fallout 2 was an improved ui and strained mix of new and recycled content and poorer but more expansive writing expanding on what could be done but was very very threadbare and already losing itself because it was a mod of a game being given a date to be released as a sequel--already. thanks interplay. it never went anywhere. a lot of people stayed on, like what happened with van buren, with good ideas trying to piece together what could be amazing but their work more authentic than anything was thrown out like mere fan art by those who made it a franchise. it was already dead. if fallout was a franchise could it really have ever been over that short period of the releases of fallout 1 and 2 which barely span more or less than a year and then nothing but worsening of the problem afterward.

none of this is new. fallout was never a franchise, or maybe you could see it as such in the purest sense because of the gross capitalist concept of what that is, but the core ideas have always been the underdog. you will never see it again. i'm buying new vegas out of like ethical obligation but its still like--i mean i watch people's videos and it itself is all that could be based on bethesda's platform of automatons staring at you in the eeriest way possible and really awkward shootery combat--fuck even awkward by shooter standards.

maybe the problem is that this is centred on fallout at all, which again is over, you won't ever see it again.

tl;dr: i just dont think ppl understand how fallout as "one of the greatest RPG franchises" is so much a mindfuck. why does it have to be? yes. it's amazing. archaeologically tho practically, if you want a view of things that keeps your mental health intact.
