Fallout: A Post-Nuclear War role-playing game bugs

My take on this:

I also agree with Per and others that the line "I need more supplies before I can tackle those guys" has an implied "I'm not ready yet, I'll get it done when I have everything I need." It seems a bit redundant though to have two "Be right back" lines in the dialogue. Perhaps the original devs intended for this line to lead to a node that does give supplies but just never got around to it and thus sent it to the same node as the line "I'm working on it." We don't know though and we cannot really make assumptions.

Thus, I feel you should not remove the line, but instead alter it to something along the lines of this: "I need more supplies before I can tackle those guys. I'll report back to you when I have some news." (or something similar.) No need to remove a line just because it is redundant; diversity in dialogue is always good. Fallout(s) have always had numerous dialogue lines lead to to the same result and they are just there to give some flavor to the conversation.

killap, I would agree with you, but...

I have at least three localizations (2 languages) to think of. And I try not to change msg files, because this is a sort of change which is difficult to keep track of. Besides, I think adding some new lines in dialog is not apropriate for the patch. What you proposing is more like modification, not a bugfix. I don't know what developers really meant. No one knows. But I have a reports from people, who say this line is very confusing, So, the problem does exist. And I need to solve it. And the best solution, which breaks nothing, is to remove this option at all, not to rewrite it by my own imagination.

But the purpose of bugfixing is not to arbitrarily change content to cater to the easily confused.

If I understand well, the Russian players have a problem with wrong translation. In that case, is not just better to change Rus localization rather then original English file?
In Czech localization is this translated as I did understand at the first time (and Kanhef and Per). It is pretty clear in Czech localization so if you delete that node, this sentence will disappear for Czech players forever.

My english is so bad?
"I need more supplies" could be equivalent to "I'm working on it, but need to prepare myself better". But I usually read it as an implicit request for more equipment, especially as there's another "I'm working on it" option. I'd expect a response along the lines of "We don't have much to offer here, try Junktown".
As I understood this, Kanhef agrees with me about "implicit request for more equipment".

It is not problem of russian translation. Translation clearly says the same: "I need more supplies".

How long ago did you actually played the game? You can speculate about players expectations all you want, but it will be far from what you see and feel when you actually play the game. In game, when you are preparing to go into the place full of raiders and you see this option, you choose it immediately, hoping for at least one pack of ammo or something. But you hear "hurry up" instead. Believe me, it is confusing.

this sentence will disappear for Czech players forever
It leads nowhere and makes no sense.

PS Do you realize, we're debating over small, almost insignificant, change? If you never paid attention to this, you won't even notice. And those who felt confusing will feel much better now. :)

No, I explained to you before, it makes perfect sense in Czech translation. Why do you say it doesn't?

Yes, I do and it is a little bit funny to make so big fight about one fucking sentence especially if you are going to remove it anyway. What a wasting of time

No more wasting of time! :) And no more "Seth problem" -- I removed damned "fix" and restored the original node. Czech players happy. :)
Thank you very much. Let's go to check an another bux fix in row if everything is ok with it!

This should be newsposted, but I want to update our own files first, and I'm not entirely sure about the files that are described only in Russian. Would you mind making a list of the files that need to be added or updated in our file section, with specifications and/or the descriptions you want? Some of this is confusing enough without adding my confusion to it.

Unofficial Fallout1 patch, v1.3.5 and it's english readme.

Fallout1 NPC Mod v.3.5 and No NPC Armor Mod for Fallout1 NPC Mod.

Release candidate of universal semi-official 1.2.1 patch and it's readme. If you have FALLOUT Version 1.0 (29 Sep 1997) [US] or FALLOUT Version 1.1 (09 Nov 1999) [US], you don't need this patch. But if you have FALLOUT Version 1.0 (19 Sep 1997) [US], I strongly recommend to use it. If you have FALLOUT Version 1.2 (19 Nov 1997) [UK] or FALLOUT Version 1.2 (1x Mar 1998) [UK/FR/SP] this patch will bring your release closer to US version (children animation and some bugfixes). In the future this patch will replace semi-official 1.2 patch, so there will be no more confusion. Now I've uploaded it for the testing purposes only, so you may choose not to put it in NMA files section. It is not a release.

If you want to host russian versions as well, here they are: Unofficial 1.3.5 patch for Russian version by 1C (official russian release) and unofficial 1.3.5 patch for Russian version by Fargus (unofficial Fallout1 localization). Semi-official 1.2 patch for Russian version by Fargus also was updated: we included some localization-related engine changes, which are present in 1C official release. Fallout NPC Mod also has 2 russian versions: v3.5 for 1C and v3.5 for Fargus. Again, only if you wish to host it. Russian-speaking users usually download them from russian resources, so I don't know if there is a real need for hosting them on NMA.

Hey guys,
I am not sure if this is the right thread to post my glitch/bug I encountered in Fallout1 + NPC Mod, but here it is anyway:
So I have the UK Version of Fallout 1 - then i applied Team X's patch 1.2
http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=1076
and immediately after Team X's unofficial 1.3.4
http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=1075
I decided to try out a NPC mod, because i know you can't order NPC's to equip themselves and they cant gain levels so i applied this
http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=1135. Finally I concluded my concoction with the high resolution patch
http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=1273
Up until getting the Power Armor everything is fine with no noticeable bugs nor glitches, but once i try to equip my second set of Power armor to Katja, the game crashes - but here it is the strange part - it only crashes outside the BOS bunker including entrance, but not inside it. This only happens to Katja, i have no problems equiping power armor to the other NPC's.

Update

Just to return this thread, which sadly fell to the 2nd page.

I'd like to encourage other people (e.g. the thorough Haenlomal) to play this game and report the bugs here!

WG, is there any update? E.g. could the test project patch you've uploaded become the official unofficial one? :D

Also, I'd like to ask our mods to stick this thread. It is only appropriate, to a fallout subforum dealing patches, that next to killap's, this one also gets a sticky. No?

EDIT: Could anyone confirm compatibility of TeamX's patches with the resolution mod?

Killap's RP1.2 thread is not stickied; people constantly post there so it stays on top.

The v1.3.5 patch and the npcmod v3.5 with the fo1 hi-res v2.1 worked perfectly for me. Haven't tried Wasteland Ghost's restored elements yet.

And this one fell far behind, possibly even forgotten that it exists. WG had uploaded that patch to the above as just a simple test, and that was, like, over four months ago. None of us probably got to test it at all and confirm to WG it's success, simply because this page fell behind (and it fell because the subforum is overcrowded with almost exclusively F2 threads, thus to the damage of F1).

Even though it doesn't say it's optimized for their latest patch, but to the one prior to that one?

Dead thread

Woah, can't believe this thread died.

This is precisely why I had wanted it stickied - the reason not to sticky it was pointed out to be the fact that it's always on the first page.

Just finished Fallout with the:

Fallout Patch 1.3.4 ENG
Fallout Patch 1.2 ENG

installed, no problems. One thing that bothered me was when asked to remove the Deathclaws (from the Gunrunners) this quest does not show up (not sure if that is an engine limitation). Also after killing the Mother Deathclaw, the only way to complete this quest is to talk to Gabriel, and choose option 1, THEN you can tell him the Deathclaws are destroyed. Would be nice if after killing her, when talking to Gabriel, you can tell him right away that you finished this.

Awesome job of bug fixes. Had a great time playing this again.

That's very good to know, Wasteland Ghost, your FO modding work it's greatly appreciated! :notworthy:

Wasteland ghost - i'm curious about something: is it possible to merge the semi-official patch with the unofficial one? i ask that because you merged the 2 RPs you made for fallout 1 and if it's not possible could you please tell us why?

any idea of when the patch 1.3.6 will come? i played with 1.3.4 (1.3.5 wasnt released at the time) and i saw only a few bugs fixed in junktown and i believe there are more to fix there. ;)
