Fallout d20 Creators Announced

Unfortunately, I don't think it's up to Jason to decide whether to make it SPECIAL or d20 - the publisher made that decision and we're stuck with it.

Yet we're supposed to believe the one designer who said they were taking great care with it, which now sounds like they aren't even going to try and retain the gameplay instrinsic to Fallout itself.

Which, to be blunt, kind of wholly misses the entire fucking point of converting the game. Unless it's just going to be a rename conversion of d20 modern, in which case it wouldn't be worth the paper its printed on.

Maybe let's focus on discussing how to make d20 suck less? How should the setting be described, etc - the areas where there's actually any choice left for the designers?

Already did. The character system is key to the gameplay. If that blows, or is stereotyped, then you have to design the areas and rest of the system accordingly, or the game is total ass. Otherwise, how else do you expect to have the character system work in the setting?

So there's zero chance of fmf SPECIAL 3.0 ever seeing the light of day? :(

If F d20 is already in the hands of the Wotc, this quarrel is meaningless.
The head of Wizards (and all big companies) are fucking cocaine sniffing yuppies, who doesn't know nothing about anithing, especially about rpg and stuff, but they have "marvellous" ideas whlie brainstorming. And if you don't like them they won't give you money...
Most of the time, these motherfuckers are the cause when a project is ruined. (Maybe hard truck apocalypse too)

And:
Noone cares about us, Fallout fans, cause we don't make money, so satisfying our needs is sensless.
Who are paying big money are the mindless youngsters, saying d20 is too complex. Methinks

Might be so. The issue about licensing makes it a difficult one, and of course it couldn't have been officially published without Interplay's permission as the trademark holder. Now with a d20 version, it could very likely be given the axe. Speaking of which, I'd like to know if Interplay had anything to do with determining d20 rules.

Here is how I see the issue. If it is just a d20 module with a Fallout "flavah", it would simply be a novelty setting for d20 folks to check out and be essentially worthless to Fallout fans. It would simply be like the other spin-offs that attracted neither the core strategy (FOT was rather lame compared to X-COM and JA2), nor the console crowd (F:POS), and since there wasn't enough of "Fallout" to attract the core audience, nobody really gave a damn.

And then, the version that was worth something will likely be flushed down the toilet in the name of publisher greed.

Well, a new fan made SPECIAL PnP might still be made, but probably not by Jason, since he's been hired for the official FO PnP. Anyway, maybe a fan-made book with only SPECIAL rules could be made, and downloadable from Glutton Creeper website, to be used with the d20 rulebook, from which you could still use the setting bits and fluff?

Not possible now, as technically it would be considered a "competing product" of the same trademark, and guess who owns the trademark. Guess who has the publishing rights?

I really doubt that someone, when told that the system they are making doesn't suit the gameplay and character style of Fallout, will approve of a competing product that DOES keep in mind the gameplay and such in its P&P conversion. Especially if the product is free, which it would have to be, since the one doing SPECIAL wouldn't have rights to the title in any way. Kind of like how it was until Glutton Creeper came along.

That is the only way, if there is no Appendix supplement or similar, for it to really work.

How about a fan-made "SPECIAL PnP" with no mention of Fallout? They probably wouldn't be able to squash that...

Shuffle the attributes a bit to conceal it better. They can't possibly sue for "A-SPLICE pnp" or "A-PC-ISLE pnp" or "ACE-SLIP pnp". :D
