At 2248 AD the Legion began its conquest of the tribes of northern Arizona, southwestern Colorado, western New Mexico and southeastern Utah. At 2253 AD, two years before Fallout D20 begins, 38 NCR citizens are massacred by Mojave raiders. President Joanna Tibbett was voted out of office by the NCR Congress after a "timid" reaction to the massacre, and is replaced by Wendell Peterson. Shortly after that, new President Peterson dispatched three battalions of NCR infantry into the Mojave Wasteland.
TIP: Ghouls, robots, and some other mutants are all immune to critical hits and sneak attacks.
ODYSSEUS (also known as ULYSSES) is an extremely advanced A.I. created by Derek Greenway. At the time of the fall, ODYSSEUS was an order of magnitude more powerful than contemporary ZAX units. It was designed to coordinate and operate all of the Vaults before the Federal Vault projects were privatized.
After the Great War, ODYSSEUS, an extremely advanced A.I., became unstable and developed a split personality. The only "communities" that know of its existence are the machine intelligences governing Robot City.
TIP: When selecting weapons, pay attention to critical hit properties. Many weapons that do inferior base damage do more damage on critical hits or will score critical hits more often.
At 2247 AD, three years before Fallout D20 begins, after coming out of a strange and powerful fever, Jeremiah Rigdon, the leader of the Mormons at New Canaan, claimed that an angel appeared to him in a vision, calling him to be the living prophet of God.

TIP: Remember: your weapons, armors and equipment wear out with the lapse of time. Examine them to find out their current durability state. And don't forget to repair them in proper time.

In two years, NCR 5th Engineering Division blew up Burham Mines, causing incredible fires to break out all over the area, even in veins of coal encased in rock. Many died. Many became gehennas. Right after that NCR abandoned Burham Springs.
TIP: Level up your characters through the character screen (C) when they have enough experience.
TIP: Having a thug or scavenger in the party can be helpful for dealing with locks and traps.
The Four States Commonwealth was one of the thirteen commonwealths of the pre-war United States of America. After its destruction in the Great War, the area became the birthplace of the ruthless slaving group, Caesar's Legion.
Hidden away in the shadows of a large cliff, near the top of a mesa rising from the desert floor, is the village of Mesa Verde. It is the home of the Ciphers, a.k.a. the Painted People, thanks to their extensive use of body paint. They're one of the smallest tribes in the area, but their hard-to-reach village on the mesa enables them to hold out against superior numbers of aggressors.
The Reservation is a ghoul town in New Mexico, built around an old scientific research station, the Los Alamos Nuclear Testing Facility. It is naturally highly radioactive. Boulder, also called as Stone City or Dome City, was one of the most prominent Pre-War research centers of USA. It seems, during the Great War China really wanted Colorado out of the picture. Boulder was no exception, the surface city turned into an ashen wasteland. Only a few buildings were left standing in town. Yet, atop its little hill, the massive Boulder Dome still stands strong.
TIP: Be mindful of the choices you make when interacting with other characters; straying too far from certain alignments may prevent you from gaining levels in certain classes.
By 2231 AD, Jeremy Maxson had assumed the position of Brotherhood High Elder. He wanted to restore the power of the Brotherhood by wresting all advanced tech from the hands of "unworthy people" by any means necessary. Naturally, this led to disputes with the NCR. Shortly after the destruction of the western branch of Enclave, a war broke out between the Brotherhood and the NCR.

They stole the Stealth Boys, fled the Maxson Bunker as deserters, and formed a covert group known as the Circle of Steel.

Harold has found his way here, but thanks to the tree in his head, has been marked as an "interesting specimen" and has been prevented from leaving by the Nursery's security bots.
Burham Springs or Burning Springs, as it is called nowadays, is a horrible wreck of a Pre-War mining community that has been burning for decades. The constant threat of death by fire, smoke, radiation, and horrible monstrosities keep the rest of the world away. The smoldering coal mines contain a wealth of technology, but the risk is too great for most people to bother.
TIP: Never underestimate the power of a well-placed trap.

Bottle caps are the standard currency in Wastelands. By the beginning of 23rd century, they were almost replaced by NCR dollars, which were backed by gold. However, shortly after in an ironic twist of fate, caps once again became a regularly-used currency when the destruction of NCR's gold reserves by the Brotherhood of Steel caused the value of a dollar to fall dramatically.
TIP: Most of the caps in circulation are already in the hands of other players. To get around this check back at the shops every few hours, because the storekeepers' supply of caps is periodically refreshed.

During the 20th century, the American military created a facility underneath Cheyenne Mountain, one mountain in a range of many on the western side of the United States. By 2253 AD, a huge section of the mountains became a great radioactive smoking crater, giving birth to a large population of glowing ghouls.
TIP: If you want to set up different equipment loadouts for your character, just drag the items from your inventory to your hotbar. You can even drag two items to the same slot if you would like your character to equip them immediately. For example, you can drag a weapon and a torch to the same slot or even two weapons. Clicking that slot will equip those items, and clicking it again will unequip them.
TIP: If there are any actions that you use frequently, you should drag them to the hotbar at the bottom of the screen. You can drag even Perks and Skills from you Character Sheet, equipable items from your Inventory, modes from the Mode Bar, or party commands from the Voice Commands menu.
TIP: If you want to quickly tell your party members what to do, use the Voice Menu, which is bound to the V key by default. The commands in that screen will allow your character to say certain things or play certain animations. Also, any command with a star next to it will issue an order to any AI controlled party members. You can even drag the commands to your hotbar!
TIP: You can control the camera with the middle mouse button, or by holding down the "Mouse Look / Camera Control" keyboard (bound to X by default). You can also use the arrow keys to move the camera, and using the CTRL key with the arrow keys pans the camera in "Free Camera" mode. You can change the speed of these keys and fine tune several other settings in the "Camera" tab of the options menu.
TIP: You have up to 10 different pages of hotbar buttons. You can change the current page by clicking on the arrow buttons on the hotbar, or by using the [ or ] keys on your keyboard. Also, holding down SHIFT and using the mouse wheel will quickly cycle through the hotbar pages.
