The Nuka Break team has done it again: they've released another Fallout fan film, and it is outstanding. You may remember them from the fan film they produced two years ago. And, of course, the Fallout: Nuka Break web series they created after that. If you don't know those videos, go watch them, too.

The new fan film may be better than the first one, though, not in the least because it's based around Fallout: New Vegas.

The film, of course, had some input from the likes of Chris Avellone and Tim Cain, so its excellence shouldn't be surprising. Make sure to check out the credits, too!

It's pretty good. One of the best fan films out on the internet, I'd say.

I was always hatin on Nuka Break (poor acting, and almost no knowledge about lore) but wow, it's nice.
One bad things: appearance of super mutant, orcish (fallout3), without having big lips etc.

It had nice production values for a fan film, unti they got to the hydrocephalic Super Mutant bit. But all in all was pretty entertaining.
So I am guessing this is a Teaser feature for the second season. Right?

"Pretty nice" really does not cover it.
That was trully excellently outstanding, I was giggidy all the way through. Only flaw was the supermutant, but even that was still pretty good, considering.

I would really like to see official Fallout feature film by these guys.

Aside from the stupid-looking super mutant (both because they went with the boring Fallout 3 design and because the make-up and mask just weren't up to snuff) it was pretty damn nice.

Generally good acting (the delivery of the main lead's lines is hit and miss in places IMO, but aside from that the performances were generally solid, nice simple storyline, and the Securitron CGI was suprisingly well-done.

I'm not a huge fan of the trend that's been going for a while of post-apocalyptic movies having desaturated visuals, but they fit the mood of the short, so I'm going to let it slide.

All in all, it was a really nice way to spend 24 minutes.

What exactly is so "outstanding" about this?
All around good effects, solid acting and so on. It stands out from other fan movies.

Btw. it seems like SM is sort of dum-dumb.
He was attacked, so he could just kill ranger and take cap, or just take cap from his slave.
Something like "Oh, one1oneo1ne, I got special cap, I will hold it until some racist will kill me."

I liked the sets and costumes, but the plot and acting leave something to be desired. A little too generic to my taste.

That was really impressive. Outstanding cinematography and sets, the acting is solid, even the effects are pretty good aside from the super mutant. The mutant-and-cap point of the plot was indeed a little weird. Still, that was really good.

Pretty good work with camera. There are five camera assistants listed in credits, talented guys indeed! They've catched several top-notch scenes. Broken window with a curtain dancing in the wind, for instance.

As for setting, I'd rather see something else than one-wheeled robot, bethesdian supermutant and red star bottle caps.

I applaud the effort of this film, but I feel some things need to be said. First, if you feel you won't be able to convey an element convincingly with your available budget, then don't do it. Scale down. Looking at the Super Mutant brought back memories of captain Kirk's fight scene with the Gorn. The robots however worked surprisingly well.

Second, some things just don't translate easily or at all into film. The use of bottle caps just felt jarring. I think bartering would have been more convincing. Same with the stim pack. They might as well have stuck a health bar on top of the guy's head.

Third, the use of the Vault boy cartoons on the video shown by the robot. These cartoons are fine for the orientation videos in the vaults, it makes sense there, they were made before the war, but to have them used pretty much everywhere else, or even worse, looking like they were made at an animation studio AFTER the apocalypse seems silly.

I understand the need to stick to the source material, but some sacrifices need to be made for things to work in a different medium.

Maybe the Securitrons come with a preinstalled copy of Go Animate so they can make little animations by combining presets.

Re: Fallout fan film "Nuka Break - Red Star" relea

That was pretty decent, the technical aspects were quite good, especially the CGI. The securitron was particularly awesome, for a moment I actually wondered if it was a real prop + CGI!

The plot didn't make much sense to me. The premise is okay: lone (ex)Ranger reluctantly accepts job to find missing girl. The execution, though, was awful. He just wanders around aimlessly (oh, yeah, he's a "tracker") and happens to find her necklace and then he just waves around the magic cap that provides the answer to each step of his quest! And the securitron just knew Becca's entire history! What the Hell?

They could have REALLY put some more effort there. "Well, I heard something while they were beating me. They said they should get going, that 'Strider' would get ugly if they didn't capture a few more girls". And so he goes on to track a some raiders and roughens 'em up for information on this 'Strider' and eventually he should have used the Red Star on some roguish character that was demeaning absurd payment for information on the girl. Nothing out of this world, just something that makes sense.

Then you have the little details, some are okay (pristine white teeth), some could have used more attention (the Ranger's shooting was a little weird; then they sleep for - I assume - several hours and have the trip back to the house but his wounds are all fresh and uncleaned like the fight was 2 minutes ago).

I don't mean to trash it, it was pretty good and entertaining for what it is.

All in all I have to say it was terrific. From a "bang for your buck" perspective, it beats 99% of what Hollywood vomits out by far. Yes, some of the details could have been done better, but it all came down in the "what could have been with a slightly bigger budget" category. Not shying away from stuff like the Super Mutant, caps for money and stimpacks actually increased my enjoyment of the film. At the same time, other details were flawless. Also, the mom's performance was excellent, especially considering some of the lines she had to deliver.

The main issue in my opinion was trying to cram what was basically a full feature movie storyline into a 25 minute short film.

I thought it was spectacular. I mean cut them some slack, it's not a blockbuster, it's just a basic fan made film done by a small production studio. On par with VGHS I'd say.

I loved Nuka Break, I thought it was very true to the Fallout style and I will admit I had a good chuckle.

This was okay, it seemed like they were trying a bit too hard to make it really "badass" and I don't really think that the low budget style suited the serious tone, the campy comedy was just right.

I kinda liked the Super Mutant make up though, even though they went with the orc design and scaling was a bit off during some scenes.

Does anybody know anything about season 2?
