Fallout graphic textures

Former Interplay I.T.-er Corith posted some interesting information about the fates of the old Fallout graphic textures, and all BIS graphic textures, for that matter:
To the best of knowledge, they were. Although I believe that Fergus bought the graphic textures (and some other assets) in early June 2004, before Interplay was shut down.

(...)

He bought all the textures that Black Isle created.
Ahh, the plot thins. Now what does he want with those textures (including, naturally, all BG3 and Fallout 3 textures made).

As a footnote: Corith, you were part of the Interplay IT staff, right? For some reason DaC and RPGCodex both credit you as a BIS employee, which is cool, but wrong, to my memory.

As an additional footnote: I do find it amusing that both DaC and RPGCodex were faster in posting this newstidbit posted on *our* forums than *we* were. What am I paying you people for?

I blame Briosafreak

I have no idea why Feargus would buy old Black Isle graphics. My guess is that maybe at that point he still had illusions of not becoming BioWare's bitch and developing sequels to their mediocre games.

I don't think sexual services are a valid form of payment. No wonder your employees are disgruntled.

Goodness! I didn't think my offhand remark would generate such a stir.

I think people are reading too much into this. Fergus bought all the textures, not just the fallout ones. Those textures, from Baulder's Gate to Fallout, could be used for anything, any project. Since Interplay was hurting for money, and Obsidian’s star was rising, it was a win-win situation.

I have no doubt that those textures found there way into Knights of the Old Republic 2, and Neverwinter Nights 2. I bet some of the textures served as the starting point and then were morphed, modified, and altered to form new textures.

There is no big secret Fallout project, or another other Black isle sequel projects planned that required those textures. They were just textures to be used, reused, and modified - nothing more.

Correct, I became part of the IT staff when "interplay.com" was merged into the Interplay Entertainment entity.
However, during the last month, the director of IT managed to share my responsibilities with game design duties, making me part the design staff. Black isle was gone by that time, and there was no real game design work (or any work of any type) But, I had hopes and enjoyed being considered part of the design staff (too bad there was nobody left).

I agree there`s no secret Fallout game or something of the sorts involved in his rationale to buy the art, but still he could have got open source art or old art from other sources, and still he bought the D&D and fallout stuff . I still think it`s a bit puzzling what he did, although i`m not going into conspiracy theories here.

maybe he just reallly likes baldurs gate and fallout? I'd buy it too in that case :).

Maybe he just wants to sue IanOut for using the Fallout 2 .frm's :(

If the process takes place in the USA, our chances are bad Sztupy :( *runs away and hides, before Feargus lawyers come to hunt me down*

Maybe he's hoping Bethseda will feel lazy and buy the Fallout 3 textures from him, and he can run away with a big truckload of cash?

Agreed. Quite frankly I would not have posted it, but it looks dopey if there's something newsish on the NMA forums that DaC and the Codex post, but NMA doesn't.

Still, it means nothing. Zilch. Nada.

Maybe he's a jerk who hates us and tought a few thousand bucks would be a small price to pay for our suffering?

I wouldn`t say it´s Nada, at least it`s fun to try to find out why he did it. We should start a contest !

Not very friendly, it seems.
What did you expect? A cuddle?

He doesn't deny it, though, and doesn't seem too happy that the community knows about it. I wonder if we stumbled upon some major conspiracy.

I think the Illuminati are behind this.

This is a conspiracy. EVERYTHING's a conspiracy! Did you ever saw a commie drink water?!

I`m with Wooz on this.

And i wouldn`t want to be cuddled by Fergus too, i mean i`m sure he`s a nice guy but i`m monogamous.
