Fallout license goes to...

The team that's gonna work on it matters, not the FALLOUT title.

Then again, friend, the team is vital, but also are the world setting and the characters used in the previous titles. It would be nice if the new game had some references to the title we know and love, wouldn't it?

I am not involved in obtaining the Fallout license, nor do I know who is.

There are only two possible scenarios regarding a short-term change in the status of Fallout 3. One is that the dev team acquires the rights and current assets and finishes the game. The other is that only the rights are transferred and a game has to be started from scratch. Unless you are suggesting that Briareus is intentionally misleading us (unlikely I say) then the first option seems but a pipe dream. The only way that scenario works is with most of the original dev team on board (for reasons stated elsewhere, i.e. familiarity with the game engine, etc.). I would assume that Bri would at least be aware of the possibility if it was really happening.

I don't see how you think the devs could aquire the unfinished Vb ,but another comapny couldn't. Legal issues aside, the logic isn't there.

I didn't mean to imply that this is what I believed, but was rather pointing out that that is a lot of what the rumor mill is basing it's hopes around. I don't know enough about the Interplay/Vivendi relationship to say what could or could not be done, though I tend to believe that anything is possible if enough money is involved.

My main point is that the most likely positive outcome would be Interplay allowing someone else to develop a Fallout 3 game, but that it would essentially mean starting from scratch. The idea that a quick resolution would allow the devs to finish the game and still target a late 2004 release is pretty much totally unrealistic. That would take a miracle.

Well.. wasn't Troika already "thinking" about a post nuclear-RPG? I remember some concept art from them, a while back.

Guess we're back to hoping Silverstyle's attempts to get the FO license works...

lets hope not....

and aye, there was some post-apoc concept art a while back, but i haven't heard anything about it since.

Perhaps it's time to...dare I say...forget about the possibilty of FO3. It's sad...but it's just not very logical.

It would be wonderful if all of these fantastic rumors are true...but it seems like wishful thinking for the most part. Which is very unfortunate. If there's one thing I could have for Christmas, it'd be the knowledge that FO3 will eventually see the light of day...and a shelf at Babbage's.

Will we see VB finished? Very VERY doubtful.

As for the rumor of the Vb team buying it, that was always in question, as the NMA team tried to show. It was in question because it was in conflict with what everyone knows SS is trying to do, and as odin recently said, what others are thinking of doing to do. So its not a rumor that other groups are trying to get the rights to a FO PC RPG. Nor is it wishful thinking.

The problem is we don't know what IPLY is asking for the rights and we don't know if they are even selling them. My guess is they are selling them, and they are just currently entertaining bids. I wouldn't want to guess about if they are selling the engine tho.

Basically, its wait and see time. Maybe SS will get it. Maybe Trokia. Don't expect Obsidian or Inexile to go after them. There are prolly some big name companies swimming around too. I promise you no now is hinding some magical knowledge about the FO rights from anyone right now. We all are just waiting. Tho, it would have been interesting to see how much money we could have raised through t-shirt sales  .
