Fallout license goes to...

Well, here is a guess on how the financing would work should a group of BIS guys try to set up a start up. By the way this is simple buisness organizations. In the end, I doubt anyone would be asking you for your donations. So don't worry about investing behind Mom's back or skipping lunch at your school cafeteria.

They could do it one of four basic ways- and this is simplified.

(1) Sole Proprietorship- highly unlikely. BIS guys find a powerful sponsor who would take the responsibility and run the project on his own. Lots of reasons why this is unlikely.

(2) Partnership- here the BIS guys get to gether pull their money and try to run the company. Again, unlikely primarily for reasons of raising capital needed and the amount of risk involved.

(3) Limited Partnership or Limited Liability Company- kind of mix between a small corp and a big corp. Here you have a few big cheeses running the show and they would sell shares out to the public. It has a bit of the power control of a partnership, capital accumulation and limited liabities of a corporation. Still these things are a bit dicey. Doubtful.

(4) Most likely- incorporate. The BIS guys would take their idea to a investment back and try to raise some capital as an initial investment. Now the question is whether it goes public or private. If public- the Banker would consider the project, run a "due diligence" write up the IPO (initial public offering) and a lawyer would draft the rules. Virtue of this is that it's a nice way to raise finance through sales of shares. Private corporation- means that the shares are all privately held- no exchange over markets, limits liability but limits ability to raise finances.

So it would probably go either through an IPO which is where things get dicey. Some IPOs are big - Pixar's IPO after Toy Story was huge. Most are pretty small. THe trick with IPOs is that their values shoot up real fast through speculation, and then when folks think the bottom will drop, they sell. The trick for most speculators is to sell before the bottom falls out. If such a group were to go to IPO with a big partner- well more consumer confidence in the new entity.

It could also be bought by a bigger party in the field, or set up as a subsidiary of a bigger fish. It could be a joint venture with another company- for instance if SS wanted the project bad enough and keep BIS it could form a joint venture. Well, actually if SS wanted the project enough it could set up a subsidiary itself.

End of the story-
if you do have a start up from a core of BIS, it would probably incorporate but it could also go in joint venture. The investment bankers would look after the financing, but if you wanted to contribute you could probably buy shares. This is not without risk however (you could lose your investment).

At the same time there are a lot of alternative ways to set up a BIS core company or to set up a venture that could make a FO3. Building businesses is kind of like building something out of legos- if you want something bad enough, you can probably find a way. The issues concern issues of fianance, management and liability.

Regardless, such a project would take time. So this is one of those things we could think over for awhile.

One of the main issues woudl be- is the FO license or rights up for sale.

And then, like others have said, this news is kind of sketchy at best.

I am a poor ass college student, but I would completly be wiling to drop 20 or so bucks into a paypal for these guys to make this game.

Think about it like this I am a gamer, I do it in my free time, I don't wanna buy an xbox or ps2, and I am not to interested in to many other PC games out right now, PLus, the first two fallouts have lasted me longer on that 100 bucks that all my other pc games combinded.

Also, if these guys start up a bussiness,I would buy stock or bonds if they where issued, no brainer.

I got a 1000 bucks I have been saving...........my 121,000 mile toyota piece of shit can last a few thousand more.........

I also would donate smth, even considering my in-few-years-legal-retro-opel has more than 121'000 miles and running up :P.

Maybe we could get a poll asking what people would REALLY donate if asked to raise money for FO3. We might get a better idea if it would be worth while to look into if the devs turn out to be trying to buy the game.

time for another teaser.. yes i am evil...

quote

" don't worry. we have spread word because we are working to revive. "

Something is deffently going on behind the scene.. I will try to dig more info out, but ofcource it gets harder and harder.. No one want to be the one telling, althought moste like to give small hints.....

How bout instead of just plain old donations, we run a kindof Fallout 3 fundraiser. Like, here in CT, UConn Basketball is huge. IT has massive support throughout the state. The tv station that airs the games, CPTV, runs fundraisers, kinda like a telethon, during the game. They ask people to pledge a certain amount of money, and for certain denominations, they give people stuff. Like say for a $50 pledge, they get a DVD of the season, or for a $100 pledge, they get a UConn flag to hand outside or something.

I'm not saying to run a telethon just do the fundraising thing. Like maybe get T-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, mousepads, backpacks, lunch-boxes, or anything.

So like if the t-shirt cost us $10 to make, maybe ask $20 for it, and then just give the profits towards the Fallout 3 Fund or something. That way, no one loses money.

I'd put in to a FO3 fund. I think that a lot of the 14,000 that have signed the petition would as well. Where would the money go, though? And the devs aren't talking at the moment....

Yeah, that appears to be a problem currently, but they've undoubtedly got to keep quiet, at least for now, about this sort of thing. I just want them to know that we're behind them 300%.

I will see this fund raising thing through!!! Any of the Admins think it would work?
E-mail or IM me with any ideas.

wait whti the fund rasier guys!.. at least until things get more in the opening! as my post before this, indicated.. there is somethign going on, behind the scenes..

althought how about setting up a paypal or something? that could work...

Could it hurt, though? I don't know about you, but I sure would like a Fallout T-shirt or a Fallout mouspad or something. And I wouldn't mind seeing some of the money that I paid for it going to the development of Fallout 3, if the devs need it

I wouldn't mind getting a fallout....soemthing, thats way overprices if the extra goes to the BIS team or for fallout 3.

I would sport a Fallout shirt, fuck yeah.

No cant hurt, just saying. that mabye they figure something out.. as my sources tells me, there is something going on.. i quote him:

"don't worry. we have spread word because we are working to revive. "

So if i have to guess, the news that i submited to newz.dk and is that we all are talking about here, is more or less true!... the devs havent even said it isent true, if it wasent true they sure as hell would had said.. so i am pretty sure my source is right on this one :)

But even if it fails, and we have to collect the money, who says we can have the fallout licens?

I doubt we would be able to raise money via selling things. It would have to be donations because:

A. we can't make FO anything, don't have the rights to use the name or the logos.

B. we would have to have initial capitol to start making the shirts

C. If people really want to help out FO, it would be better if anything raised would go right to the game, instead of being tied up in buying material

Since we can't use the name Fallout or something, what about NMA t-shirts?
