If they're going to pick those games how the hell didn't they nominate Red Dead Redemption? Which does have writing credits.

Dunno. Might be because it was produced by Rockstar North. Though I doubt it. So...dunno

actually interesting would be to know what competition they have.

So click the link.

What is this, I don't even

/edit:
Also wonder what stuff the Bethesda staff wrote.

John Gonzalez steps up for Obsidian, along with 3 writers from Obsidian and 7 additional writers from Bethesda.

Actually, 5 are from Bethesda. Tess Treadwell and George Ziets are from Obsidian.

Erm, wait. Where does it say that Bethesda actually wrote something? I think all those guys are from Obsidian. Bethesda only did the massive screw up that was the Q&A testing.

Thanks for the correction Auwtch. You the man :ok:

Bethesda had guys in on additional writing. Matt Grandstaff and Nick Breckon, who are community managers, Jason Bergman, who was kind of a producer-liaison. Dunno what they actually wrote.

That is kind of weird, but I guess it explains the mediocre dialogue every now and then.

I find it bizarre that a Writers Guild would nominate F3. I mean, do they really have such low standards for writing in games? Although looking at the state the industry is in, they just may do.

At least it didn't win. It lost out to Force Unleashed, which I have since played and found to be one of the most hilariously inept, hammy space operas I've ever seen. It is laughably clumsily written. Anyone who can get through the final scene of the light side ending without throwing up (if you're a SW fan) or splitting your sides laughing (if you're normal) needs to have his head checked.

So yeah.

Fallout 3 was also nominated for the BAFTA Best Story. And won the GDCA's Best Writing award. To say that both the standards of and respect for writing in the videogame industry are a joke is an understatement.

TFU had lots of hammy scenes, but I liked the twist with Vader being behind the creation of the Rebellion. And it's not as the writing is any worse than in the SW prequels.

That's not much of a standard. I mean, how fucking horrible is that main character? Or his love interest? Are those two of the least-interesting characters in videogame history or what?

Also a probably answer to no Red Dead Redemption: Rockstar didn't care to submit GTA IV, it probably didn't bother to submit Red Dead either.
These awards are a joke.

Meh, it was good for what it was for me. My expectations for Star Wars are pretty low, though.

It or Fallout 3 winning best writing in a year in which GTA IV was released shows either your process or your brains are broken.

I'm not saying it should have won any awards, just that the writing was decent as far as Star Wars is concerned, not any more hammy than in the movies. At least they managed to surprise me with a plot twist or two. My favorite 2008 game is Braid anyway (although I only played it recently).

I agree with Ausir. Star Wars games never really have been the best written games out there.
