While we wait for Bethesda to announce a release date for the last DLC for New Vegas, Lonesome Road, a few more reviews for Old World Blues have cropped out, keeping mostly in line with the positive reception it has received so far.

According to Strategy Informer it's "one of the best add-ons for any game ever", 9.5/10.<blockquote>In the end I knocked it down a little because yes, assets do get reused (no matter how imaginatively), it’s very talky in parts (no matter how good the talking) and to be fair there will be Fallout players out there who will hate it just because it chucks realism and grittiness out the window. No matter how interesting the locations, and their little backstories, Fallout isn't a shooter and the combat is unresponsive and annoying.

When you're shooting some bloke in the head five times and he's still running at you swinging a saw, it just gets stupid.

At times you can talk the characters around, negotiate with them and bully them, but it just isn't enough.

I always thought Oblivion was some sort of accident. Latter I learned they did it on purpose. And so I lost all hope for Fallout 3. So yeah. That kinda sums up my feelings as well. I was hyped for a few months when I heard about "Fallout 3" though. But the more I have read about it ... the more it turned in to bitterness and finally when it was released in disappointment. Oblivion with guns describes it perfectly in my eyes.

Finally someone say it, this is the thing I hate it most in OWB, the insane amount of - dumb - combat!

The quests could be better, but some are enjoyable; you can argue about the end and the 8 or 80 decision about the Think Tank (I don't have a problem with, tough); the heavelly reuse of assets can be even forgiven.
But the combat?
It's the same shit FO3 did, the same.

And is Wild Wasteland, not Weird.
Dumb "journalists". :?
 
I actually just finished my second playthrough (which is the do everything/explore everything one) last night.

I've enjoyed it both times. While I agree that the combat is boring (and has been since F3) and I acknowledge that bullet sponge enemies can be considered "cheap", I liked that it forced me to expend almost all the ammo I brought and really start scrounging for extra guns, ammo, armor to keep my stuff in good repair. Both chars were mainly Guns, so trying to survive an ambush with a hastily repaired/scavenged LAER or proton axe or saturnite fist lead to some tense moments.

Quests were ok. I thought the dialogue quests for each brain were silly because I'd start one, select a few dialogue choices then instantly complete one. Borous's was the only one that required me to do anything besides use a "Meeting People" mag. The X-8 optional quest was tedious as hell, but i liked the X-13 one.

My main issue with the DLC, is that I couldn't shake the feeling like the whole DLC is an Easter egg, something meant to found and played after going through the main game. The Sink house, the auto-perks, the armor, the skill book recipes, the Cazador nerfs, the nightstalker perk, the implants, etc... They all seem like overkill to make an already easy game even easier.

TL;DR: Play through it once to hear the amazing VA and meet Muggy and the Toaster, but don't bring anything back if you can help it. Except the stealth suit. And Muggy (someone please make that mod). Also, the "Skilled" trait is the new "Gifted".
