Fallout: New Vegas Patch 1.3 released for PC

SMGs are to be used only against enemies with light or no armor, just like other weapons (.357 magnum for example). If you want to use automatic weapons against armored enemies you need something like the Light Machine Gun with AP ammo or the Assault Carbine. It seems...normal to me. Different weapons for different enemies.

I get that it's just that SMGs seem really underpowered and you never have any real need to use them. Your rifles work just as well on unarmored people as they do on armored ones.

Edit: They might be more worth it if SMGs got bonuses against non-human enemies or something like that. Then you might have real need to carry an SMG around, in case you run into a super mutant or nightkin or something.

Hm I am playing it with the newest patch right now, and I can't remember having so much more fun in the beginning/mid of the game (level 10 I have now) then in my previous playthroughs. Some fights were much tougher and I believe some new/more enemies are in certain spots aswell. Even though I had very bad reputation with the legion, they had never sent asassins after me. Now, I encountered 4 already, second one shredded me into tiers. Not sure if thats the patch, but I like it. :D

The same could be said for a lot of weapons (shotguns for example) but they aren't useless and it comes down to personal tastes. For example I made a run using only revolvers.

Exactly what's happening to me, the assassins really took me by surprise. And I was killed by Vipers with guns a couple of times, something that never happened before...

I just discovered some stone monument for the fallen NCR troops of the hoover dam battle in boulder city, right next to the bar there. Is.. is this new? I have never seen this in any playthroughs before. :o

Don't feel too bad, I didn't realize you could actually go in the bar until my fourth playthrough. I thought it was just another one of those boarded up buildings.

I've also started up a new playthrough but I haven't noticed a *huge* difference. The biggest one was probably the raiders between Nipton and Novac occasionally having Grenade Rifles which can *really* hurt you badly.

Also, I seemed to have a tougher time with the convicts in the Bison Steve Hotel though I can't say if it's due to any changes or just me playing a bit more crappily than usual.

There is an area shortly after Nipton where the Legion usually ambushes a caravan. This was a complete warzone this time around which was great (though I don't think it was due to any patch changes). I aggroed a bunch Nightstalkers nearby by accident and drew them into the fight as well. There was also a small NCR squad of three joining the fray and they basically saved my ass from the Nightstalkers. It was beautiful chaos for a moment or two, hehe.
