Fallout one of the best game franchise revivals

Yeah, like you're any less close minded than Republicans. I hate how Democrats always complain about how bad Republicans are when their party does just as much crap.
And in context of the article, without Fallout 3 so many less people would know about Fallout, and I wouldn't have gotten F1 and F2 if I hadn't played F3.

I wasn't talking about being close minded, I was talking about being blind to reality. Oh and the evidence clearly shows that fallout 3 is an epic pile of crap, but let me defend my republican bashing for a second. For example, reality dictates that 2 plus 2 equals 4 but a republican would claim that it equals 5 till their dying breath. Yes democrats are bad but not as bad as republicans. We have a terrible party, the democrats, and a useless party, the republicans.

Anyway, so what if fallout 3 brought you into finding two awesome games. It was a terrible game. The evidence being the horrendous storyline. If bethesda doesn't give a shit about their game's main plot, then why the hell should I care about the game.

I guess it makes sense that Fallout 3 was a marketing gimmick to get people to play fallout 1 and 2. After all that is why bethesda is taking interplay to court, right?

A Good Game? But it is not! See numerous threads here for explanations of the flaws of FO3. A lot of these flaws dont depend on it being a Fallout Game. They would glare in any other setting too. Besides i dont have to be objective, im not a journalist. And i certainly stopped looking at FO3 as a fallout game a long time ago. But somehow that did not make the Game more enjoyable.

Im not negative against the result. Im negative against the way it was achieved. Im also quite negative towards using that kind of logic as a justification for FO3. A good game does not need justification, a bad one does. If someone discovered FO1 and 2 thanks to FO3 that's a good thing. But was it really necessary to produce the FO3 we got now to that end? I think not.

Ah who the hell cares, Vegas is a nice suprise with Obsidian and StarCraft 2? Shit... Unless Borderlands comes out with another exp. I'm good this year.

I don't see why you don't feel that Fallout 3 is justified as a good game.

Who's "you"? I think Fallout 3 is a good game with massive, massive flaws in certain areas (voice acting, writing, animation) and spikes of quality in others (certain atmospheric areas, quest design). Thing is:

You should look at the game objectively instead of comparing it to F1 and F2 and being dissatisfied with it.

Wait what? It's called Fallout 3, why in Frith's name shouldn't you compare it to F1/2?

And I was saying that hundreds of thousands of people were opened up to the Fallout franchise through Fallout 3, so I don't understand why you are so negative towards that.

They were opened up to the the Fallout franchise, they were opened up to the Fallout 3 franchise. Don't know how many went back to Fallout 1/2.

Sometimes I wonder if I have done something really really bad in a previous life and that this is part of my punishment.

To have something I start to care about, and then have it taken away.

Well you must have messed up bad that to get this...

The thing i dont get is from where the trend "people dont like to think or are scared of complicated things in games" is comming. Are the majority of gamers like that ? I woud say no, but then again, i can only speak of myself. The objective truth i do not know.

And hundreds of thousands of those people are the wrong type of Fallout fan, console fanboys, graphics whores and people who can't appreciate the old games because they're, well, older.

And of course, you also get this kind of guy, which I hope to god is a troll:

I, myself, was brought into Fallout with the announcement of the third, but after playing 1 and 2 I just cannot see Fallout 3 as a good game. I would rather never having discovered Fallout and letting everyone get Van Buren than be selfish about it.

That's a pretty weird thing to imagine, would you go back and have Fallout erased from your life if it meant that Black Isle released Fallout 3 (Van Buren) and Bethesda never acquired the Fallout franchise. My view on video games is way too serious.

Oh noes!!11!!1!1! (how many 1's and exclamation points are actually needed here?)

Not Herve Again!!

Why isn't it a good franchise revival? It successfully revived the franchise, did it not? So what, the first new installment wasn't the best. The important thing is, now we are assured more Fallout games, and it's not a foregone conclusion that they will suck.

If New Vegas knocks everyone's socks off, should the revival still be considered a failure?

It's not like it has a ton of great competition in the game franchise revival department. Where is Jagged Alliance 3? X-Com?

Actually, a new X-Com is beign developed, and it's an FPS.

The game ends up being as deep as an Oblivion while not turning off those afraid of RPG titles.

Which sort of speaks for itself.

Jagged Alliance 3 the co-op FPS will soon follow.

You know what, I just figured something out. All gaming magazines and reviewers are republicans. They have to be. No other group can be so blind to reality.
I'm a Republican and I must say, I'm not very flattered by your description of us.

Anyway, I really don't like the gaming media. They spend too much time hyping shit up instead of telling the company about flaws in their game so they can fix them if a sequel comes out. Hell, I never heard a peep from any magazine or major site about Fallout 3's über-shitty ending until Broken Steel was about to be released.

It seems like every article that comes out, comes with a slap in the face/insult directed at the "purists".

The vast majority of Fallout fans are in love with Fo3. Bethesda's revival was an astounding success, and without Bethesda we wouldn't even be talking about Fallout right now :D

Nope we sure wouldn't,

While Fallout 3 does not hold a candle to Fallout 2 with me, it was a alright game and yea im glad Bethesda is letting Fallout New Vegas be made for sure.

Oh and im more of a republican then a modern day democrat for sure. On that note: . . .

To say Fallout 3 was made to introduce Fallout 1 & 2 is hilarious, my friends who play Fallout 3 wouldn't give Fallout 1 or 2 a 30 second chance. That is there loss, but people like my friends are the main kind of people Fallout 3 was made for.

Fallout 3 released on PC, PS3 & 360 and using Oblivion's engine along with being made by Bethesda it would have had to be the utter most pile of shit to not do well. Fallout 3 was medicore, it is a mainstream game to appeal to the masses. The masses being myself, the person reading this, my friends, the 15 year old who lives across the street with a Xbox 360 etc.

Did it help introduce Fallout 1 & 2? Not as much as you'd think . . . So with Fallout 3 being out there and Fallout 1 & 2 more famalier with the people now we have Fallout New Vegas. A game that will appeal to Fallout 3 fans and now also more to us original Fallout fan's.

Oh and im more of a republican then a modern day democrat for sure.

Off topic: Both parties are fucked. I can't decide whether to be a Libertarian Socialist or an Anarcho-Capitalist. If there was a place where they met in the middle I'd probably be there.

This fall though PC gamers may get their wish as the remains of Interplay return to develop Fallout: New Vegas.

The "remains of Interplay" have been contracted to essentially make an expansion to a game designed and produced by Bethesda, which bears the Fallout name as the result of purchasing of the IP.

Side note: Political parties are an illusion, false choice/change/dichotomy. There's no difference. They all follow the same agenda.

The 'humor' I can remember from Fallout was stuff like the intro. A soldier executing an unarmed prisoner, shooting him twice. His buddy starts laughing, after which the camera is noticed and the shooter starts waving. Enter the shot of the head-part of someone in power armor, and a waving American-like flag behind it. "BUY WAR BONDS"

To me, that classifies as humor. Dark and bitter, but humor nonetheless. But it's an entirely different type of humor compared to the 'humor' involved in two idiots dressed up as superheros, or constant exploding heads and catapulting limbs, or teddy bears that kill people. That can be called humor too. Just like every 'funniest home video' idea somehow enters the realm of some people's funny bone. I don't understand some people very well.

That's an interesting way to look at it. On both accounts.

And hey, I'm new :[
