Fallout one of the best game series

Hey, where the hell are Civilization, Doom, Warcraft and other epic games?

I dunno who did this kind of... 'best-eva' list, but I cannot agree with it completely, with such games omitted... This is a joke, seriously.

What a crock of shite....

Where's Ultima? Wizardry? HOMM?
Where's Civilization?
Where's Doom? Quake?

What the hell is 'Tom Clancy's'? Tom Clancy's what? It's not even a series, just a brand name covering a whole bunch of unrelated games!

90% consoletard crap and a handful of the more recent PC games.

That was true up until like a month ago when they decided to put them all together into one giant missjointed mess of a universe.

..., Doom, ...

did you like doom 3?

To a degree. Doom 1&2 have had a greater impact on me. But hey, I was only thirteen when Doom 1 appeared! Hence it's obvious, that when I played Doom 3 I wasn't impressed *that* much, because I simply was older.

And I'm afraid, _our age_ - is one of the main reasons we love so much to criticize modern games.

This is true to an extent as for example an idiotic story of monsters from hell being fought in ridiculous locations by a lone space marine would be ridiculed by us now, YET back in 1993 when we were younger it seemed so damn cool!

On the other hand, we as gamers enjoyed a lot more complex and rewarding titles in the 90's than we get now. Even as we age, games get simpler and more retarded.

The problem is that companies tend to try and appeal to an ever wider, younger and more generic demographic with games. THIS is why we really criticize modern games.

No one seems to make games for older gamers, yet we fogies are still around! Even a 'legend' like Sid Meier despite his status is still stuck in a time warp, making games for kiddies and promoting simple games. You'd think he'd know better and yet it seems that making intelligent, complex games is just too hard.

Yes, the quality of most major titles is deteriorating nowadays, but there ARE very cool but very few exceptions (we all know them).

We simply should not give in to our 'grognardic' part of ourselves, which makes us want to criticize everything that differs from what we came to know for the first time during our blessed juvenile period :) People, however, usually give in and do miss a lot of fun (personally, I'd prefer not to).

Nope, I did think for a while that my own age (31) is the problem, but since then I have replayed through great games like Fallout 2 again and found new great games like Kings Bounty and Fantasy Wars, discovered old classics like Master of Magic for myself. Now I can safely say you can still enjoy games like when you were 15 and its just the new games that do in fact mostly suck, probably due to their 99% graphics budget.
I can't tell you how good I felt during the last playthrough of Fallout 2, I was simply satifsfied, warm and fuzzy, even happy days after I played it.

Well, there was runescape classic, which is "1", then the runescape 3d appeared "which is 2", and then it was developed even further (adding new graphix, gameplay etc and etc) so now its basical '3".

P.S. Sorry for bad english.

Old games, yes, and some new exceptions here and there.
The most attractive part of being into old games is that they are usually dirtcheap. With €5 I can experience the same kind of enjoyment as a kid who spends €50 on a new release and I enjoy it usually for far longer.
Who said kids aren't dumb? :D
