Fallout Online: Impossible to keep the wasteland feeling?

train is a good idea (i forgot that we have one in FOonline, btw on NCR station there is only 2 people you can talk too in regard to the docs quest)

cars i till cant see, fast travel its about time saving and being accessible to everyone and whatever you do eventually most will max their levels and we will get parking lots :x

max of 20 or so on 1 instance of a desert will never happen, unless dungeons and the like.
unless you can come up with a mechanic to make it work, because all i see is 20 people standing near some dungeon blocking thousands of people from being able to get in...
besides what will everyone else see, walking through the waste and then invisible wall or sorry all tickets sold sign?

in every open world if 500 people want to go together they can, this problem is for the map and quest designers.

the last part is very true and for cars you are basically saying that once people hear of cars they will absolutly want one well why don't they dumb down the cars and almost make them useless like it goes walking cars train airplane idk about airplane but you get what im trying to say and do you not know what i mean by instance i mean so for example these people are in this exact instance and another set of people who also got a random encounter are in another so they are in separate areas but the same place like how in final fantasy combat takes place in a separate instance so no one else is bothered

no, not in the open world, i dont play much MMORPG's but i think we both speak of "dungeons" which is specific locations you can enter from the main map, that needs more work and planing than the usual open world random spawns.
for example you find a vault or a raider camp etc...

and there is instance's which is exactly the same, only that its a private dungeon that created for your party members upon entry, to avoid hundreds of other ppl running in your vault...

still its specific location, not something that can be applied to the open world.

it kind of can be applied not in the same way as walking though i mean like your car stops for some reason you get out and then u go to a different instance

well it looks like there wont be open pvp as i predicted:

Thanks for the thread; this has been a good one to read.

Some thoughts:
* There will be lots of PvP, but that won't be the only activity.
* There will be restrictions. Our vision of PvP requires player consent.
* PvP can occur pretty much anywhere in the world, but not all players can partake in PvP. This goes beyond the /duel command; there is a whole different system in play here. It's not the old EQ-style PVP switch. It's something new. We're just not ready to give details at this time.
* If you heavily commit to PvP, you will be rewarded. It will be risky, but the rewards are designed to make it worthwhile. If you'd like to dabble in PvP, you will still be rewarded and won't risk as much. We hope to entice more people to be involved in PvP, without making it a requirement. .

btw does anyone has any idea regarding the holly grail of the game mechanics, i mean SPECIAL, skills and perks and how the hell they intend on making it work in FOOL?!

i tried to think how its gonna work but not even once could i warp my mind around it ...

aside from the 'its an MMORPG open world' so outdoorsman cant determine the outcome of a random spawn especially if there is someone else near it or if you are part of a group...
so its probably get a greater line of sight and the opportunity to get better loot from animals (skin them and the like) make it a profession or something.

will the primary statistics have any effect beside their obvious derived statistics

what with the skills? will the stay the same or changed at to a similar formula that was created for van buren? and what will their benefits be?
for example in my opinon at least repear should be changed to mechanic, obviously allowing him to craft stuff etc..

actually thats something that according to you and the whole mmorpg rules list they will probably add a bonus to for example let's say you max you skill on enrgy weapons they will add something that has to do with that

i am not sure i understand your example....
i mean as let's say for example in the mmorpg runescape when a skill reaches max level you gain what is a called a skillcape so it recognizes your accoplishment so you max out energy weapons you gain a special energy weapon guns or somthings like that

If there wasn't open PvP I doubt the game would be very much fun.

I had heard that fan made online fallout game was pretty nice (until people whined too much, complaining about PvP and stuff, and they changed it all up).

Frankly, for me, a MMO would need to not be hand-holdey type of thing that WoW is. Hell, just making the game have PvP on by default would probbaly drive a large faction of the WoW players away; Most of them (all the PvE babies) wouldn't want to play. And anything but PvP wouldn't be right for fallout. I'd honestly hope for players to be able to create buildings/take over buildings, etc, and use them as hideouts, stash houses, etc for themselves or their gang (I would go with "Gang" as the term for guilds).

Likewise, a punishment system for killing people in certain areas, like towns or a certain region (EG, the newbie area is inside NCR territory. All the newbie quests take place inside this area which is policed by the NCR, so commiting a crime will mean that the rangers are coming for you). Hell, within areas controlled by a faction, something like Eve's "1 Sec" space would be good. (Basically 1 sec space is the heart of the civilized galaxy; you commit a crime and your ships gets blowed the fuck up) It goes from 1 Sec to 0sec, and closer you get to 0, the longer it takes the police to show up. Do stuff in 0sec, and the police won't show up at all.

Different regions could have different levels and kinds of police; EG, the NCR region is policed fairly heavily and you can't get away with much, but a town more like New Reno or the Den, it's pretty much you against whoever you piss off. There may be a faction who will help you, but probably not.

well there is not... there is OpenPVP for those who choose with great benefits but that's it.

although i doubt that this will be the top mood killer yet, at the moment i am probing inter forums regarding 'whores, pimps, drugs, junkies, kitty paws mag's, sex doll's etc...' although i doubt that they answer or that i'll like the answer

the more i think about it the worse FOOL sounds to me, someone will need to be very creative to make me excited about this one...

This is my greatest fear, apart from a fear that Mr. Tom Dubois shares.
I take comfort in knowing that IF a fallout MMO was made it would be made neither by Obsidian or Bethesda who will focus on Fallout single player only games, at least i hope.
As far as MMO's go, never liked them, probably never will.
As we all know,MMOs are ALL about the epic loot, and raids, where atmosphere, interactions with npcs, story, plot, dialogue have no place.
Arent all these things what made Fallout great?
Oh,and what little cultural references Fallout 3 had (if any), you can kiss that goodbye a Fallout MMO wont have a single one.
Now,in the event that Bethesda or Obsidian develop the mmo...
Thats it, thats when we know the Fallout franchise we all love is dead. Killed by greed as it were.

well after looking into it my guess that FOOL will be more like FO3 than anything else, something like fallen earth.
