... perk that indirectly... may increase your chance to succeed at some skill check

umm... indirectly means strictly by modifying a skill check? not a die roll for example?

I think you answered your own question there.

misteryo

on 2nd thought, i guess you're right; i must have misunderstood the question.

Edit: in any case, doesn't the scout perk modify the check with outdoorsman skill in regards to random encounters?

Anyway let's not get picky, and let's move on with the contest round 2!

There have already been as many submissions as the total number of submissions in the mailing list where I learned of this thing

This mislead me to believe the number of submissions would be somewhere in the 3 digits

I have a new phrasing of question 7 to remove an unwanted ambiguity (as opposed to all the wanted ones):

7. Name a perk that is in both Fallout and Fallout 2 but doesn't have the same effect when taken once, and which does not merely add skill points and/or apply a fixed skill modifier.

Anyone who already submitted an answer to the question can change it if it seems like a good idea. Apologies for the inconvenience.

I'm still very confused by it.
Gonna give it a shot when I have some time.

Also, yay for winning by default!

edit: Oh yeah, and I'll format my answers a little better this time, maybe look up exact names for quests and stuff.

It says right in the rules that you can appeal. If you do, I'll expect you to offer something in support of your claim. "We just don't know that it doesn't" is not enough for that. The contest couldn't be run that way.

Appealing is a waste of time here. The gist of the matter is that you don't know for certain how the Scout/Explorer perks work, therefore you are not in a position to rule on whether they are the right or wrong answer, regardless of your "powers" of moderation. You might as well have asked whether there is a God or not, and judged the submitted answers on your own personal beliefs.

On a related note, neither you nor the game actually defines what an "attack" is in any game-related terms, therefore your ruling on 7 . that Demoliton Expert is a wrong answer is another screw-up, especially since the text says "some attack". Had you used the term "weapon" this would not be an issue, but you went with an undefined term, or to be more precise, a term that you do not know the exact parameters of in-game. Oh sure, you have your own made-up definition, but you should have made sure you shared it with the rest of us at the start. Again, due to lack of information you are not in a position to rule whether Demolition Expert is a right or wrong answer.

I'll spare you any further headaches and drop out of this "contest" now. It'll be interesting to see whether anyone can beat my "High score".

This does not seem very consistent: if you think the term "weapon" is unequivocal then it shouldn't be too much of a leap to apply the term "attack" in line with that. However, the contest is not intended exclusively for people who are familiar with the game on a technical level. This type of moderation issues isn't specific to the subject matter, either. If I was running a contest based on historical trivia and asked people to name a military campaign that had this or that precise characteristic, we could still argue for five pages what exactly constitutes a military campaign. And yet a call has to be made in order to have the contest in the first place.

It seems to me that you expected this whole thing to be something it wasn't meant to be. I'm sorry.

Name a character you encounter in their home location who may tell you that they originally came from another in-game location.

Does it have to be a location in the same game?

All right:

1. Name a character you encounter in their home location who may tell you that they originally came from another location.

Also,

Requests for clarifications of questions should be sent in a timely fashion by email or PM

About the Combat Shotgun

I may be mistaken about the combat shotgun, but I'm pretty sure, that you get one either after the raiders or for solving the Gecko Power Plant trouble. It was my second playthrough on v1.00 so I could be wrong.

The nearly ultimate clarification of question 7:

7. Name a perk that is in both Fallout and Fallout 2 but doesn't have the exact same effect when or after you take one rank of it, and which does not merely add skill points and/or apply a fixed skill modifier; prerequirements are not part of the effect.

Bollocks.

I don't have time to attend this round. Working night all weekend.
Hope you will find time for yet another round after this one, Per.

entered, but it was a bit of a rush job (since i wont have time this weekend either, family time & all that jazz). at least there are a few supposedly decent answers.

sorry again for not entering in your previous contest, mr bestest lizard.

Slow day at work so I took the time to enter the contest anyway. You're going down, PlanHex! Down... ... ...town... eh...

So, we're 11 now?

I think I can make myself go down by forgetting the rules and getting penalty points thankyouverymuch

a lot of people just don't read General Fallout Discussion on a regular basis, i think.

i sure didn't, til someone clued me on the contest.

So should there be an embarrassment cut-off in the results or do you want to see how everyone did?

i value privacy. :p
but i don't really mind people know my bullshit replies.

tbfh, just a list of the given answers without names (with their scoring in the overview like you did before) & the winner's answers are enough, no? no real need to list everyone's answers separately again.
