Fallout RP- Systematic Annihilation

(ok im gona move the story on a bit by writing about the FEV that myron is using)

Jex woke suddenly in the medical lab of the vault. there was soldiers moving the wounded down to the lower levels he suspected. he could hear the relentless pounding of the massive vault door that was securely locked in place. it was the only thing between him and death.

Jex rembered why he was in the medical lab now. he had been on of the teams at the main gate in the attack. after expending his m9 pistol into the masses of redemtion infected humans he withdrew his machete. he didn't even know were to swing it he just swung wially all over the place ducking and diving to avoid teeth and nails. after a while of coting his foe down he began to become tired just as he thought he could no long hold back the tide of infected from coming into the city the order to fall back to the Vault was sounded out. it was a blow and a relief at the same time. he knew he could rest a bit but he know this meant they were taking heavy casualtys and were losing the battle. bullets zipped past his body taking down members of his team. suddenly a enclave soldier floated by catching jex with his axe, the first blow didn't even do one bit of damage but the third did. the axe severed he back musceles leaving him helpless and not being able to move much.

the time after that was blank really and no mater how hard he tried he couldn't even fathom the slightest memory of the time after that until this point in time. taking a further look around him Jex noticed a man in a white lab coat going around the beds one by one asking each person a question. the doctor wasn't far away from him now and Jex wondered what would be so improtant to ask every single person it. the doctor finally reached Jex.

Myron: "hello er (looking at the board on the bottom of his bed) Jex ah yes the axe wounds, how are they?"

Jex: " there fine sir ill be able to fight again soon"

Myron: "well mabe much sooner than u think Jex, i have a question to ask you. now recently i received a shipment of FEV. now don't be alarmed i wont use it on you unless you would be willing to. then you may just help save the vault. so are you willing?"

jex's eyes widened if he did sign up he knew he would get glory for saving the vault. he knew what power FEV could give you all though it can make you dumb as well. but hey he wasn't the brightest chip of the block.

Jex: (nodding his head) " yea ill sing up for it im nearly dead anyway wont hurt me one bit take me to the FEV now sir"

Myron: "excellent Jex you truly are a brave man."

myron waved his hand at two of the guars at the door they put Jex on at stretcher and put him in the lift. myron entered the lift and pressed floor 3. there was a sudden jolt and the lift descended bumpily downwards deep underground. the lift grounded to halt halt and the lift dors slid open. the two guarded picked Jex up one again and lifted him onto a table in the center of the lab.

Myron came back over to Jex telling him the procedures of what he was about to do. Jex wasn't really lisining his mind was racing with the thought of the sheer strengh he would have after this little experiment was over.

Jex was agin lifted off the streacher and put into a bath. the bath was made of rusted meatal and above it was a barrel with was held by a chain. Jex heard a whirling noise above him and the barrel began to tip green liquid began to drizzle out all over him. he could feel it burning, he winched in pain and clenched gi teeth. after a while his body was total sub merged Jex thought he was going to drown now he had wished he had listened to Myron so he knew what should be happening. suddenly all his muscles in his body began to twinge building up into a fit. Jex eyes closed he felt sick with the pain and he could feel his body growing, mutating. his head rose out of the liquid.

Jex felt so strong and strangely he could hear and smell so much more. he turned his head quickly seeing a tiny spider in the corner of the dark room. Myron squinted his eyes but could see nothing. Jex looked back at myron he some how felt more interlectual than before. he didn't have that urge to die any more but the urge to live life to the fall making other people's life better.

Myron came over with a dusty mirror and held it up in Jex's face. pure shock came over jex as he saw his new body for the first time. he was massive even bigger than before and most of all he was a dark green. this was going to take some getting used to.

Eye in the Sky

(You're welcome, Trag. Glad to see you back. Welcome aboard, Metzer. Your introduction is good! The Enclave attack on Vault City was only known about a few days before it happened, though, so Jex wouldn't have had enough time to make it there from the Den. However, he could have been traveling in the Vault City area (no farther away than Gecko) and still arrived in time to join the defense.)

Lieutenant Colonel Halle Richter hovered over the ruins of Vault City in her vertibird, watching her master continue his battle with Alex. It boggled her mind that the two of them were still standing after the tremendous beating both of them had taken. All around her, the Shinobi flew around on patrol, and the ground troops encircled the two mighty combatants. It was a climactic struggle of Redemption against FEV, the new ways against the old. Two champions duking it out for the fate of the world. This was the way it should be, she knew. It was very Teutonic.

Richter's vertbird was fully rearmed. The two fighters were much too close together for her to do anything, but if they separated for any reason she had a complete loadout of missiles ready to pulverize Alex. If any Enclave soldiers happened to get caught in the blast radius...well, that was just too bad for them.

Below them, Rex also watched the battle with great interest. As he did, a call came in from the captain of Easy Company. "Sir," he reported, "the drilling is proceeding well and is ahead of schedule. I estimate that we'll be through the door by 0800 hours."

"Excellent," replied Rex. "Keep up the good work, Captain!" He could hardly wait.

The vehicle emerged from the hot wastes, into the small shanty town known as "The Den." The vehicle itself was quite old, maybe even to the extent to call it acient. It was from a forgotten time, when the world was still thriving every day towards medical, electric, mechanical, and environmental advances. The vehicle was from the year 1990, made by the General Motors company, originally by use by the United States military, but later adapted for civillian use. The Humvee. As the vehicle slowed to an idle in front of the city pub, there was the acient sound of an almost nonexistant fuel, not because the resources were scarce, just because a handful of people in the world had the materials, tools, and know how to construct it. Bio diesel. The vehicle was black, wherever it wasn't caked with dust from the 14 hour drive through 2 states. The driver's side door slowly opened, the dust breaking and drifting off as it was freed from the spaces in between the door and the body of the vehicle. When the door was fully opened, small, cylindrical brown object fell to the ground, and continued to smoke. The butt of a cigarette. Then the driver stepped out. He was wearing an all-black suit with a red tie, black leather gloves, and frameless sunglases. His silver hair hang down to just below his eyes, and he stood six-foot two inches tall. He was quite attractive, but in his opinions looks didn't mean much in this world. All looks could mean is how good one person could fight, by the way their clothes were torn, or worn through in any way. He knew that if he was dressed in clothes in perfect condition, he would probably seem weak, or even worse, associated with the Enclave. He scanned the area slowly, then took off his gloves and slipped them into an interior pocket in his suit jacket. He started to walk to the door of the pub when he felt an object about 2 inches around agianst his back. Then he heard words, "Fancy dresser, I see. Probably have alot of slugs on you." The newcomer didn't speak, but was spoken to agian, "I want all of them, and if I don't, you're going to get shot." The albino still didn't speak, and didn't even move. "Can't talk? Too scared?" The albino man smirked a small bit, and spoke very quietly, just enough so his assailant could, "...You're the one who should be." There was a moment of silence, then in less than 2 seconds the mugger was on the ground, disarmed, the back of his hand agianst the back of his shoulder, with a broken arm. The man was already in the pub.
((Sorry if anything doesn't make sense. Don't know too much about the RP so far. So any corrections would be appreciated.))

"Sheeit!" shouted schrike, looking at the LCD display, in his visor. This was consitered antiquated technolagy, but the duribility was astounding. "15.2's running dry... Rocket pod's a quarter-of-the-way! 75 remaining. Orders?" Shouted schrike over the Squawk.

Kagel snapped "We've all got problems! Just keep shooting!"

"Rodger that- All weapon's free!" shouted schrike

Stephan continued to fire, the scent of heated metals, and the heat reducing polymers smelled of rubber. A thick cover of smoke, that smelled of sulfer blew back into the cabin, from each expelled bullet. "Gun's are too damn hot!" stephan said "The polymer's are smoking - Gotta cool the bastards off!"

"Don't fuckin' worry about your piece! Those guns are replaceable! Just - Keep - Fireing!" Yelled kagel

"The barrels are gonna warp!" shouted stephan

"So?! Shoot the things down there!"

Kagel took aim, with the DSK Carbine. The custom weapon fitted perfectally. She squeezed the trigger, firing yet another .223 winchester Armor piercing slug. This was a miss, though was fallowed by two quick fallowup shots, both center of mass. the .223 shells littered the floor. She took aim, she was shocked by what she saw in the scope. "Jesus - Knight...Jerrico?!" Kagel was shocked, seeing her former commerade, turned enemy. She trailed her former enemy, and mercifully squeezed the trigger. Jerrico's suffering was curtailed, by a teflon coated slug, at the base of the ear.

"Sarge - Rocket pod's 2, and 3 aren't firing right. We need to get the hell out of dodge, before the bastards missfire, and kill us all." shouted schrike.

Charley had herd this, his face had displayed his intince uneasyness, his eyes wattering, his ears plugged. the pilot's words were easly audiable through his hands.

"Alright- Alright- Lets get the hell out of here- Schrike, Continue to the Den. "

"Rodger that- ETA, 10 minutes"

"Seace fire! Seace fire!" kagel shouted, depressing a small red triangular button, the ramp slowly sealed. Stephan continued to fire, he was incapable of hearing the command. Kagel freed herself from the fourpoint harness, and turned to stephan, who was still firing, effectivly thinning the enemy line. Kagel layed a hand on his shoulder. stephan swiveled his head quickly, the triggers still depressed. Kagel brought her left index finger across her throat, signeling him to seace fire, which he did. As the barrels stopped spinning, they began to smoke profusely, they glowed with a red tint. Kagel reached to her belt, grabbing her brotherhood flask, and opened it, pouring the contents on the barrels- they steemed, and hissed loudly.

"We're packing up" kagel said to stephan

"What?!" he said, deffened

"We're packing up" She yelled

"I.. Can't hear you!" Shouted stephan, incapable of hearing her.

Kagel reached forward, depressing the red triangle, drawling the ramp. she reached arround, unbuckeling his harness, singlehanded, and then pointed to a seat. he was nearly hit by the weapon platform, as it was drawn into its upright position.

Stephan then nodded, and sat next to the ranger, he quickly buckled his self in.

Kagel sat down, and keyed the radio. "Dispatch - Minigun's are dry, rocket's are malfunctioning - Continueing to the den. " She Sighed, the turbines provided that which was compairable to silence, after the fray. " we have one enclave soldier - a Private. Please advise."

The man now known throughout the small town as Xanaville exited the pub. It had only been an hour and a half, but night was already starting to fall on the city. He had some sleep to catch, after being awake almost for three days straight, preparing for the trip from the ruins of the city he used to reside, Spokane, to The Den. He opened the door of his vehicle then began to drive, looking for a suitable place.

The vehicle came to a stop in an abandoned junkyard, then the engine shut down. Xanaville stepped out of the vehicle and opened one of the back doors. He sat in and moved the weapons in the back seat to the cargo area of the vehicle. He took off his suit jacket, then his tie, then his black dress shirt, showing a wide array of tattoos, some in black and white, others in color. He lied down in the spacious back seat and took off his glasses, then did the one thing he always did when he was going to fall asleep. He thought.

He spoke quietly to himself, "...Enclave agent..." He sighed, and closed his eyes. Due to his exhaustion, he fell asleep almost instantly.

He was standing in an Enclave uniform in the ranks, which was being looked over by several superior officers. After the inspection, the question was asked, "What is the purpose of the Enclave?" The entire ranks answered, "To cleanse the wastes for the new order." The main officer smirked, "Correct."

BLAM BLAM BLAM!!! Xanaville ran out of his house, and raised his AK-47 and dropped the attackers quickly. Then ran to her. He kneeled down beside her and looked at her torso. Blood. He looked down at her face, "Haley..." She looked up at him, "I don't know why James...They wanted you...I said that you weren't around...He said that lying would not be tolerated..." She coughed, blood began to run from the corner of her mouth. "...Why did they ask for me?"

"I don't know..."

She coughed agian. He wiped off her face then looked down at her. She spoke agian, "James...I didn't want it to end like this...But at least I can die how I wanted...With the one person I love." James looked down at her, silent for a moment, "I...I love you...Haley."

"I love you too James...But I want one thing..."

"Anything. Anything you want."

"One last kiss."

James put on arm under her back, the other on her stomach. He slowly pulled her up and James leaned down, pressing his lips to hers. James felt her hand tighten around his, his eyes closed. It was silent for a moment. He felt her grip loosen. Her head began to sag. James put his hand behind her head and looked into her eyes. She spoke, "I'll wait..." He smiled, "I'll try not to be long." He leaned down agian, and kissed her once more. He saw her eyes close, one last breath. He felt no more pressure on his hand. James pulled his head away, then looked at her once more. He laid her on the ground and stood on his knees for a moment. He leaned forward, resting his upper half on his forearms, looking at the ground.

His emotions were mixed. Anger. Grief. He spoke once more, "...I'll make them pay for what they did to you...They all will..." He was staring at the ground. Small spots of sand became dark and spherical, drops on the lenses of his glasses. He looked at his wrist, a bracelet from the Enclave, showing his name, date of birth, and I.D. number. He looked to his side. The body. He put his forehead to the ground. He looked at the barren wastes behind him between his legs that began to blur. Then his left hand. It was covered with brown dust. And the ring. On his left ring finger. Covered with blood. He cried.

James sat up quickly, and looked around. He was in the Humvee, just the same as he was before. He reached toward his jacket and pulled out a picture, and stared at it for a moment. A picture of him, and his wife, kissing. In the middle of the picture, both of their hands were in a c-like formation, put together, making two hearts. It was from a camera in which the pictures were developed from the chemicals held in the white space under the picture. Where the white space was, there were three words, "Two makes one." He slipped the picture back into his suit jacket then slipped on his dress shirt, "...I promise Haley...They'll feel my pain...Every single one..."

((Are you confused? Time will tell the story.))

Night Shift

(Great intro, fraust! So far it fits in quite well with the storyline, and Xanaville sure picked the right time to visit the Den; his guns will be in high demand. You might want to post your character's details in this thread or at least a link to them, since not everyone will know they're in the Characters thread. You should definitely read the whole story when you get a chance.)

"Roger, Paladin Kagel," replied Junior Knight Julie Staley. "Deploy your team when you arrive in the Den and begin organizing the defences. The Lord Paladin told me about your Enclave prisoner. If you feel you can trust him, use him to help defend the Den. If not, send him on to Navarro as a prisoner and we'll decide what to do with him then. Lord Paladin Jackson trusts your judgment on this matter. After you deploy, your pilot can fly your bird back here for repairs, refueling, and rearming along with your wounded man and the child, and if necessary your prisoner. I'll have a few birds coming in from San Fran around the same time, but I'll shuffle yours in somehow. Over."

Julie checked her radar screen again. Then she noticed that one of the monitors was on the fritz, its image replaced by static. She called maintenance. "This is Junior Knight Staley in dispatch," she said. "One of my monitors is malfunctioning."

"We'll send a tech over to fix it," came the reply.

A couple of minutes later, Junior Scribe Melvin Kramer came up from the underground portion of the base in the elevator, Super Tool Kit in hand. He nervously adjusted his glasses and approached. "H-hi, Julie," he said.

"Hey, Melvin," Julie said. "This one's the troublemaker." She pointed to the monitor.

"I'll have it fixed in a jiff." Melvin got to work, and shortly the monitor was working again. "There we go. One of the tubes burned out, but I replaced it."

"Thanks, Melvin. Good job!"

Melvin packed away his tools. "No problem. Call me any time you need me. Uh, b-bye, Julie."

"See ya!" Julie waved and watched as he shuffled back to the elevator. Melvin had been her friend for a while. He was shy, kind, and sweet, and she could tell he had feelings for her, but he never said anything about them. Maybe he didn't want to risk their friendship, which she could understand. As he descended in the elevator, she realized for the first time that she had never said anything either. She hadn't been looking for a relationship, but...

Julie shook her head. There was a war on. This was no time to get involved.

"Rodger that, dispatch - Over and Out " Kagel said, she then took a knee, next to stephan

"Stephan, You readin' me?" she said, shaking his shoulder

Stephan looked at her blankly "What?"

"Shit..." kagel said, looking at his blank expression. "He's realy deaf..." she said to his self.

She knew that his hearing would return, eventually. She had seen many initiates loose their hearing temperarly, when using the heavy tool's of the trade, The minigun's in particullar. His ear's weren't bleeding, he would be fine. She looked to her planted foot, seeing the pile of spent 5mm shells, most of them still hot. She stood, and backed into her seat, as schrike gained altitude, and speed, heading twards the den. The craft moved very quickly, speeds compairable to most 20th century jet liners.

Gabe went back to a state of meditation, as the craft buzzed over the wasteland.

"Sarge- The Den is at our 12. Visual contact established."

"Take it at this speed, and set her down, in smitties old junk yard."

"Rodger that"
said schrike.

"So - Enclave scum - Are you going to start talkin? or do I get to splatter your shit all over the cabin?" asked kagel

"Woah - He's a friendly" gabe said, being jerked from his meditation

"He's enclave! He better start singing, or I'm going to end his sad existance!"

"I don't have much to tell you! I don't realy have any valuable information- That's all need to know!"

"Start talking!" yelled kagel

"About what?!" he said, panniced.

Kagel sighed. "I'm not through with you."

James lied on the roof of his vehicle, not wearing anything above his waist, save his glasses. His dress shirt was under him, preventing the black heat-absorbing paint from burning him. He opened his eyes slowly, and watched the smoke emit from his mouth. He rubbed his head then spoke, "It's too fucking hot!" He sat up a small bit, then threw his weight backwards. He rolled over backwards, falling off the roof of his vehicle, landing neatly on his feet. He grabbed his shirt and put it on, not bothering to button it up due to the heat.

He walked around to the back of the Humvee, then opened the two back doors, and began to unload his wares. First off, two boxes, the dimensions being four by two by two. He stacked them next to the vehicle, then drew out his assault rifles. Four AK-47's, two of them IMI, the other two Kalishnakov, the differences between the two only being the grips, as the Kalishnakovs had wood, and the Israeli AK-47's had black polymer. Two Fabrique Nationale S.C.A.R. assualt rifles, two Heckler and Koch G41's, two G.I.A.T. F.A.M.A.S. G2 SMGs, then the larger version with a picatinny rail, five Israeli Galil Micro rifles, 5 Sigarms SIG 556 submachineguns, 4 Fabrique Nationale P90 Triple rails, then the oldest weapons in the arsenal, 3 Browning Automatic Rifles (B.A.R.) and 7 Thompson Submachineguns, as well as 4 fully-automatic SKS rifles. Then three of the following SMG's, H&K MP5-K, H&K MP5-A2, Skorpion Vz.61, PP-2000, Ruger MP9, Calico SMG, then 10 Ingram MAC-11's, then 10 of each handgun, Glock 18C, Fabirque Nationale Five-SeVeN, Sigarms P226 Tactical, H&K USP Match, then two of James' handguns. Heckler and Koch VP70 M's. Then one of each long-rang rifle. RT-20, Steyr IWS, Barret
XM500, H&K MSG-90, Walther WA2000, and a Sigarms SSG-3000, then one of each shotgun, Franchi SPAS-12, Mossberg 500 Cruiser, MAG-7, and a Saiga 12K. Then weapons for a more destructive use, M79, GP25, and two Milkor MGLs. He then reached into the back and began pulling out 125 boxes, each box holding 100 pounds of ammunition for each caliber of the weapons, except for four boxes, which each weighed 200 pounds, that James could barely move out of the truck next to the first weapons he pulled out. He leaned agianst the truck and lit another cigarette and looked at the aresenal, a staggering total of 159 weapons. Even after all this, he had three weapons left, two XM134 mounted in boxes at the back window, and a dismantled Heckler and Koch GMG.

He was well outfitted, and if he knew anything about being a salesman, the town would soon be as well. True, he had enough weapons to outfit a small invading army, but if the best offense is a good defense, then why shouldn't the best defense be a spectacular offense?

"This is going to be a very long week" kagel thought to herself. Her face was pale. She felt sick to her stomach. She knew that failure was not an option. She had lead raids, assaults, she had recovered artifacts, and defended small setelments, but never something as big as the den, from such a force, as Redemption. The added pressure, of knowing that navaro hung in the balance was more than unbareable. The force deversion would surely make navaro a sitting target. a force devided in two is bad enough, but the brotherhood forces of northern california are splintered, Trashed and skattered amongst the major cities.

Schrike could see the Den, as the vertibird flew over 300 feet above the flat wasteland ground. The elivation, and raising wasteland sun accented the town. He doubted that any of the town folk knew what was coming. "ETA - 3 Minutes!"

Gabe knew what was coming. He had already made up his mind. The child goes to Nevaro, and he was to help defend the den.

"Ramsies" gabe said, to the ranger.

"What is it, Mutant?"

"Are you going to stey in the den? or split."

"I'll stey." he said.

" Good to hear. Its been a while since I've fought anything like this."

"Like this?"

Gabe sighed "Beast loards, to the east. Shamonistic canibles, that - gained some kind of... Psyonic controll, from years of radiation exposure, that granted them controll over those of lesser inteligence... Insects, and beasts. Needless to say, spear wielding canibles don't fair well against superior firepower."

"Canibles..." said ramsies.

Gabe began to chuckle. "If there was a chapter of my life that was worth living - this was it. Smashing their hovel, thinning their masses - It was my turning point."

Schrike shouted "ETA! Two Minutes!"

Gabe responded to his self "This is going to be a long fuckin' day."

Swimming With the Sharks; Darkness at Dawn

Captain David Jones walked back and forth across the large cabin. Every so often, he looked at the huge glass-walled aquarium that took up a third of the chamber. Within it swam a huge mutated shark, the captain's pet and the only thing he loved.

The door slid open, and two Enclave soldiers frogmarched a frightened-looking tech into the room. The door closed behind them.

"So," said Captain Jones, rounding on him, "you're the one responsible for the mishap that nearly claimed the lives of two of my crew!"

"It was an accident, sir!" protested the tech. "It won't happen again!"

"You're right, it won't." Jones glanced at the shark again. "Buttercup hasn't eaten yet this morning. You're going to feed her."

The tech looked from side to side. "Okay, but I'm not sure where you keep the shark food."

The captain chuckled. "You don't understand, fool. You're going to feed Buttercup!" He nodded to the soldiers. "You know what to do."

The tech went pale and soiled himself. "No!" he cried. "Please, no! Not that! Anything but that!" The troops ignored his protests and dragged him to a pair of manacles that hung from a chain on the ceiling, which they locked around his wrists.

Captain Jones walked over to a control panel and pulled a lever. The chain retracted towards the high ceiling, lifting the screaming man off of the deck. The captain returned the lever to its home position when he was hanging just below the ceiling, then pulled another one. The tech kicked the air in vain as he was carried along a track until he was dangling over the open-topped aquarium. "Breakfast time, Buttercup!" Jones called, pushing a button.

The manacles opened, dumping the unfortunate man into the deep water. He surfaced and splashed his way over to the front of the aquarium, but the top was five feet above the water and well out of his reach. He pounded on the glass, crying out in terror, but it would not break.

Then the shark chomped down on his leg, and he screamed again, this time in pain. It pulled him underwater and continued eating him alive. The soldiers watched in a mix of pleasure derived from his agony and fear that it could be them next if they screwed up. The tech managed to stretch his arm out of the water and pressed his hand against the glass. Buttercup dragged him down again, leaving a bloody palm print streaking down the inside of the glass. Then the man finally stopped struggling, slain by the ferocious shark.

Amy and Jack gathered their things and left their room. It was 7:00, and the second level of the Vault was being evacuated. They rode down to level 3 in the elevator with several others. When they emerged, they saw fifteen or twenty super mutants assembled in the hall carrying an assortment of weapons.

"Wha-" said Amy. While she was more comfortable around mutants than most normal humans, she was puzzled as to how they had gotten here. "Where did all you big guys come from?"

"We're from here," said an orange-skinned mutant. "Dr. Myron asked for people willing to be dipped. We volunteered to defend the Vault."

Amy was amazed. "You chose to get dipped?"

"Yup. We'd all be dead soon if nobody did it. I used to be weak and scrawny, and now look at these muscles!" The mutant flexed. Amy had seen bigger and stronger mutants, but he easily outclassed normals. "If we survive, they say I could live a very long life. I was pushing sixty and my health hadn't been the best before. I can't have kids any more, but that was the last thing on my mind anyway."

"That's impressive. Good luck, all of you!"

Amy and Jack proceeded to the command center, where the others in their group were already gathered.

"Ah, good," said Harold. "You're here." He told them about the escape plan. "We've gathered some things for you to take with you. You've already got the weapon, I see. This pack contains Rachel's gear. You can return it to her when you rescue her." He handed Amy a backpack.

"I can wear her combat armor myself until then," said Amy. "It'll be a bit tight, but it'll help keep me alive."

Myron gave Jack another backpack. "This is our remaining supply of the serum," he said. "It's enough to last you six months. Hopefully by then there will be a cure or someone else will be able to start manufacturing more. There are other medical supplies in there as well."

"It'll have to last both of us three months," said Jack.

"I was infected during the battle," explained Amy.

"It should still be enough time. Almost everyone here who was infected fell in battle, so we don't need much. If we win, I can start making more quickly. If we don't, we won't need it anyway."

"You're going with them, Dr. Myron," said Harold. "I don't want any arguments. You and Eldon are both too important to fall into the Enclave's hands."

"I can't argue with that. I can set up shop with the Brotherhood or the Shi. Then I'll be able to start making more serum and continue my research."

"I bet Lenny could make more serum if Vault City prevails," said Eldon. "He's a great doctor. I remember how he kept all us ghouls from falling apart back when I lived in Gecko. Well, from falling apart more than usual, anyway."

"We're coming too," said Ben. "Angus and I have orders to escort you and that piece of Enclave tech back to the Brotherhood's bunker in NCR - by way of New Reno, of course."

"Too bad we can't bring SkyNet. The escape route will require us to swim upriver at one point. Robots and water don't mix. Maybe he'll be of use to you guys, though. Anyone else coming with us?"

Stark sighed, torn between his love for Rachel and his duty to defend what was left of Vault City. He wished he could do both, but if he stayed and was lost in battle he wouldn't be around to save Rachel from a fate worse than death. The others might be able to do it, but it would be harder without his help.

"I can see your dilemma," said Valerie, "so I'll decide for you. You're going with them too, Sergeant. That's an order."

"All right, then." Stark knew he probably would have made the same choice, but now he didn't have to feel so bad about it. "Spike, you're with me. You know those two punks, and that could be useful."

"Yeah," said Spike, "and maybe I'll have a chance to get even with them while I'm at it."

"The sooner we leave, the better. They're getting further ahead of us with every minute."

Simple Pete

"Hii..." A lankey man, with a sloutched figure said slowly, and softly looking into a grundgey mirror "What's your name?" he said, in a slurred tone. He staired at his own slack jawed smile. "My name's pete!" he said, looking at his own distorted immage. "You're not much for conversation; Aren't you?" he said to his own reflective figure. "Fine! Don't talk to me!"

The door behind him cracked open, and pete's guardian peered in. An old woman, in her late 70's.

"Pete? What are you doing in there?"

"Noffin. auntie Marget"

"Are you talkin' to your self in the mirror again?"

"It ain't me - It's freddy."

"Freddy?"

"Freddy! My friend"

"Wash up, pete, it's time for breakfast."

"Okey-dokie, auntie margret."

The lankey simpleton walked into the restroom, and began to wash his hands, using his foot, to depress a plastic pump, that drew water from the well.

"Auntie? Why does people call me Simple Pete? "

there was a short pause.. "Bechause you're simpally a sweetheart"

"Awe, Shucks" Simple Pete said, drying his hands, on his grundgey shirt, defeting the perpose of washing his hands. Simple pete was known throughout The Den, as the neighborhood simpleton, That wouldn't hurt a fly. He was the big, gullable Lug, that was loved by most, but hated by the rest.

"Auntie Margrett? Do you like gecko's?" he said.

"I don't much think that I do. Their mean little devils."

"But- They's so cute, with their squishie-ness, and stuff"

"I guess you're right."

"What did you make for breakfast, Auntie Margrett?"

"Brahmin steaks."

"Oh, Goodie!" Pete said, ammused. "My favorite!" [/u]

Leaving the Vault

Amy returned after putting on Rachel's combat armor. She put her own leather armor in the backpack with Rachel's other things and slung the pack on her back, then she rejoined the rest of the group. "Okay, I'm ready," she said.

"You'd better get on your way, then," said Harold. He pointed to an air vent. "Just follow that duct and turn left at the intersection. I've marked the spot where the rock is at its thinnest on Jack's PIPBoy."

Amy hefted her Hammer. "That wall won't be a problem."

"I just hope we can find Rachel before it's too late," said Stark. "They're going to have a 40 hour lead on us."

"Good luck to all of you," said Valerie. "I'm worried about Rachel Wright too. She put herself on the line for Vault City. We owe her big, and we always pay our debts. Take what ammo and supplies you need before you go."

"Thanks," said Eldon. "Good luck against the Enclave. With the traps we've set up, the fresh super mutants, and the Steel Knights, you've got a fighting chance. Vault City prevails!"

"Vault City prevails, Citizen."

Eldon still hadn't gotten used to being a Citizen of Vault City. It felt good. He hoped Vault City emerged victorious, and that he could help rebuild it afterwards.

Charred Brahmin steaks / Hit the ground.

"Hey, Auntie - I'mma go bring some to ole' Smitty!" Said simple Pete.

"Ok, Sweety. Smitty would like that." said Margrett.

"Okey-Doke!" he said, grabbing a plate, that heald one of the charred brahmin stakes, and stood, turning to the door. He began to walk slowly, turning arround - heading for the old wooden door.

"Bye, auntie Margrett!"

"Bye Pete" said margrett.

Pete exited the small house- he was nearly blinded by the bright morning sun. "It sure is gonna be a hot un' " he said to his self, as he began to fallow the dirt street, heading twards the old junk yard. He watched, as the people went about their morning business, as he passed an open topped bozaar, shifting his head from left to right, looking at those around him. Pete wore a big grinn, and those that noticed him, shot a smile, and a nod back to him. He Crossed paths with a young woman, of the age 19. She was a thin, red head, about 5,4.

"Howdy, there, Clarie"

"Hey pete!" she spoke, with what sounded like a southern drawl.

"You sure are looking nice, today, Clarie"

"Awe, shucks, Thank's Pete" said the young woman.

"What'cha doin, Clarie?"

"Just out to buy some Brahmin meat, What are you doing, this morning?"

"Just bringin Ole' Smitty some brek'fas" said Simple Pete

"He'll like that, Boy, you sure are considerate, pete"

"Awe, Thank's clairie"

"Well, I have to get going. Its always great talking to you, pete"

"Ok, Bye Clairie" Pete said, as she smiled, and walked away, heading for the open air bozaar. Pete continued through the street, heading into West Town. This part of the Den was notouriously bad, known for Crime, and drugs. Pete crossed paths with yet another of the Den's inhabitants. This one, a shady cherecter, dressed in a black leather jacket, a weapon was clearly visable.

"Yo, Pete... You got a second?"

"Yeah! Sure, Leroy"

"You... You wanna trys something you ain't gonna neva' fo-gett?"

"Realy? What is it?" said pete, with a smile.

Leroy reached into his coat, withdrawling a small yellow, and white inhailer. "Only 20 coin, buddy"

"Wha- What is it?" asked pete, dumbfounded "Looks neat!"

"You ain't neva' seen jet before?"

"Jet?"

"Yeah... Hey buddy... How's about- I gives yous a free sample"

"Realy? For free?" said pete, his eyes wide.

"Yea- " Leroy was cut off, by a loud voice, coming from over pete's shoulder

"Leave the kid alone, leroy"

"Fuck off, Jerrid"

"You're not peddeling your shit to Simple Pete."

"You's messin wif my bid-ness" said leroy, reaching for his piece

Pete turned quickly "Hey jerry!" he said, to the tall man, clad in leather armor. His bald head reflected the morning sun. Pete's eyes scanned down, falling uppon Jerrid's weapon, an old Ithica 37 pumpaction shotgun.

"What's the gun for?" asked pete, looking to jerrid's gun.

"Pete, go about your business."

"Thank's officer Jerrid" as pete reffered to jerrid as. Jerrid wasn't a cop per'se - though he was always keeping an eye out. He was a true vidgelante.

Pete continued to smittys - looking over his shoulder "Bye Leroy!" he said, as he walked on, heading for the junkyard. As he passed the store formerly owned by tubby, he found his self, looking into smitties old junkyard. His eyes were drawn to a black vehicle, a humvee. Pete had seen nothing like this - and was perplexed by the vehicles shien. He approached the truck slowly, his eyes wide, and jaw open. as he got closer, he could see that there was a small frame man tanning on the top.

"Hi there!" he said, to the man atop the truck.

* * *

"Thirty seconds!" shouted schrike, watching, as the wasteland passed benieth him

"slow this brick down. We set it down in the junkyard. " said kagel

"Why the junkyard?"

"The only place we can land this create!" shouted kagel.

"Right, Right - Junkyard in sight, deverting power from terbines, running at 25%!"

"Alright! Grab us a parkin' space"

"Rodger!" said schrike.

Kagel took a knee, infront of the child "Hey - Charley, right?"

Charley's eyes were still watering - but he nodded.

" Well charley, uhh - You can call me Kagel, if you would like. Or Faith - It makes no differance. " said kagel.

"Ok..." charley said.

"Listen - we're going to get you out of here, real soon - so - just sit tight, and we'll send you back, with Schrike, and that nice fella over there" she said, pointing to Xi, in his current drug induced euphoria, was intrigued by the rivvits in the floor panneling.

"Oh.. Ok..." he said, his voice shakey.

"Alright." she said "I can't let you stey here. we know what's coming."

"I... I know." said charley.

"Setting her down!" shouted schrike, as the vehicle began to drop altitude stedally.

"Very well, schrike" said Kagel.

The landing gear unfolded, as the vehicle lowered slowly. Toutching down, the downward thrust kicking up dust, as they began to die out, the weight resting on the landing gear. The engines quickly fell silent.

James opened his eyes slowly, then looked over at the man that just addressed him. James closed his eyes agian and put his head straight. "Wassup kid." He then sat up as the rays of sun hitting him was blocked out. He looked up at the aerial vehicle making it's descent toward his vehicle. James slid off the roof of the truck onto the ground, not wearing anything on his torso. The plane touched down, covering him with a fine coat of dust, the "simp" behind him untouched by the dirt, saving the food that the man was bringing from any contamination.

James reached behind him and pulled out one of the two Glock 18's in the back of his waistband. He pulled back the slide, ejecting one of the 52 rounds in the magazine. James watched as the round hit the ground and kicked up a small amount of dust as it did so. James watched as the doors of the plane opened. He raised his firearm. He didn't know who was in the plane, or who was going to exit, but he had to be sure.

Emergency Exit

(EDIT: post deleted so it could be moved after the following post, since Myron hasn't left for the vent shaft yet in that one.)

Jex and the other supermutants were gathered on the second floor of the vault. there orders were to wait until the explosions sounded then to rush into the huge cargo lift and head to the first floor in waves. there they were told they would meet heavy resistance and all they had to do was to kill as many Enclave as possibly hum. (or super mutant in there case).

Myron had been dumb founded by the amount of volunteers for the FEV dip. he had though mabe two to 2 max but 60 that was alot of mad people. he had been especially pleased with the results of Jex the man had tripled his strengh and size. and before the dip he wasn't the brightest of people. but now he was more intelligent than most of the humans in this vault. Myron had marched Jex of to show him off to the Harold. bursting into the command center with the huge mutant Myron said.

Myron: "hey look at this. isn't this the biggest super mutant you have ever seen! and what is better he isn't dumb like most of them, he is actually more intelligent than most of the humans in this room!"

Harold looked up and down at this mutant. the mutant didn't look to pleased to0 be paraded around like this by Myron. huge muscles were bludging out all over his body. he looked like he could snap you with a flick of his finger.

Harold:" well he sure is big. you say the biggest and brightest of the lot myron?"

Myron "yes most certainly nearly twice as big as some of them out there!"

Harold "well then there is only one postiotion for him to fill, er mutant what is your name?"

Jex" my b'rith name is unknown sir i was stolen from my family at a very young age by the enclave, but i call myself Jex sir!" the mutant filled his huge lungs with air. a sense of proudness at what he had become radiated from him.

Harold" well Jex i give you the honer of leading the assault, i proclaim you as leader of the Vault city supermutant division!"

Jex looked over joyed he would have jumped in glee if his head wasn't already touching the celling. Jex saluted and walked out with myron in tail. heading down the corridor he realised he didn't have a weapon. then the idear hit him he would need a sledge hammer and a fusion cell. heading down to the armoury he rummaged through huge containers witch once held weapons. there wasn't much left. he opened a rust locker and found what he was looking for. taking it up in his hands he felt the weight. the super sledge felt like a feather. he swung it round in one hand with ness and grace. as he swung it round behind him not realising Myron was there he nearly smashed Myrons skull. Myron jumped for cover. next Jex found a fusion cell. and a few wires. laying it all on a table he bolted the fusion cell inside the main head of the hammer into a hollow he had made.connecting the wires ans running them to two metal spiked plates on ether end of the ledge. the instantly sparked. he placed a sheet of metal over the fusion cell to make sure it wouldn't come to any damage. Mron was shocked at the skill and time he had done this in. Myron approached Jex and shook his hand.

Myron "well Jex im off now going with the others i hope you serve the ordeal and if you do come seak me out some time"

Jex: "thanks myron i sure will do that good luck in your travels."

with that the two shook hands again and myron departed to leave through the ventilation shaft. heading back up to floor two to wait with his newly formed divison. Jex hoped he would survie and if he didn't he would take down as many of them enclave scum as he could.

Emergency Exit

Amy crawled through the ventilation ducts, Jack and the others close behind her. They turned left where Harold said and continued along the shaft for a little while.

"Okay," said Jack, checking his PIPBoy, "this is the spot. It's the wall on the right."

Amy stopped and readied her weapon. She adjusted the power setting so that it would fire a low intensity beam. This would allow continuous fire while only draining the fusion cell supply slowly. It wasn't much use in combat, but it was perfect for drilling through metal and rock. A few minutes later, she had managed to create a narrow tunnel through the rock face and into a wide cavern beyond it.

The eight companions emerged into the cavern. A stream of fresh, cool water flowed south through it towards the Vault. A passage left north alongside it. The freshly created opening was a close fit for Ben and Angus in their Power Armor, but they managed to squeeze through it.

"Here we are," said Eldon. "All we have to do is follow the water upstream and we'll get out of this place."

"We should emerge early this afternoon," said Myron. "We could then get back to Vault City's position on the surface by tonight."

"I can pick up their trail from there," said Amy. "It may be over a day old by then, but it won't be a problem. I doubt they covered their tracks, especially since they probably didn't think anyone could follow them."

Spike nodded. "Stone and O'Hara would have checked for immediate pursuit," he said, "but they don't exactly take care to make sure they don't leave a trail. Sometimes you can just follow the destruction and dead bodies they leave in their wake."

"We'll have to be careful around Vault City, though," said Ben. "If any Enclave forces are still in the area when we arrive and they spot us, we're finished. We need to be stealthy."

"I just hope we can get there in time," said Stark, unable to stop thinking about Rachel. "We'd better get going now."

"Well, Howdy stranger!" said Simple Pete, watching the albino prep his Glocks. James kept his eyes fixed on the landing vertibird, his Glock raised.

"That sure is one fancy gun, you got's there." Pete said, ignoring the noise, made by the vertibird.

James responded " You might even see what they get to do" as he flipped the firing mode selector from Safe - to Auto.

* * *

"Dispatch, Team Scimitar has reached its destination. Permission to send our vertibird back for refuleing, Over" said kagel. Standing. Schrike flipped the main power dipswitch, and stood. Stephan looked arround the cabin, his ears ringing. Charley sat still, looking at his knees.

Ramsies unbucked his harness, and stood. "Havent ridden a Verti-bird. This is a first for me. "

"Surprisingly a smooth ride, dont you think?" said gabe

"Surprisingly." said ramsies.

Kagel stood, and approached the ramp, and depressed the triangular red button. The ramp, guided by hydrolics, was forced to the ground. The natural light flooded the aircraft. Kagel's eyes quickly ajusted. She keyed her Squawk, and spoke

"Outpost 4, This is Junior Paliden Faith Kagle, Team scimitar has toutched down, and we're on the ground. "

"Rodger that, junior paliden, Welcom to the Den." responded outpost 4"

"Dispatch, Requesting ETA for re-enforcements, over." she said, as she stepped down the ramp. The brotherhood power armor's weight created a thud, each step she took. Behind kage, schrike filed out, and the mutan't crawled behind the pilot, standing, once he wasnt confined by the celing fo the craft.

"The Den." Gabe said. "Havent seen this place in ages."

Flight into Danger

"Junior Paladin Kagel," replied Julie Staley, "this is Dispatch. Permission granted to send your bird back to Navarro. The sooner it gets back here, the sooner it can return to the action. There are six vertibirds en route to the Den, loaded with reinforcements, ammo, and other supplies. That's all we had at the moment, though more are on the way from San Francisco. They can also fly combat missions once they've arrived and unloaded, and they'll return when they need to refuel and rearm. The first one should arrive at your location in three and a half hours. Over."

Julie sighed from exhaustion. The sun had just come up, and normally this meant she could go off shift and get some sleep. If she had known what was coming she never would have volunteered to take a double shift. At least when it was over she could take a long break. She knew she would need it. Once the fighting started nobody would get any rest.

Julie still couldn't believe what was happening. When the Enclave attacked Navarro, she would need to coordinate the base's vertibirds. She knew they wouldn't be able to stop the Enclave invasion by themselves, though. This battle would be fought on the ground, and she would see her share of action. She had more combat training than most of the other dispatchers, so it would fall on her to protect the air traffic control center and keep the enemy out of the underground area of the base. It was a huge responsibility, and she hoped she was up to the task.

* * *

The small group made its way through the underground caverns north of Vault City, following the stream that supplied it with water. So far all they had encountered were some rats, which had wisely avoided them. They ate breakfast as they walked. There was little of interest in the tunnels, and it was still a long way to the surface.

Amy led the way, her Hammer at the ready. Jack, Ben, and Angus followed close behind her, ready to protect her in case of trouble. Eldon and Myron were in the middle, and Stark and Spike brought up the rear.

"That was some idea, Myron," said Eldon, "using the FEV to make super mutants."

"Yeah," said Myron, "sometimes I even amaze myself. It's a wonder nobody's done it before, really. Except the Master, I mean."

"It's because of what the Master did with it that people wouldn't touch the stuff."

"FEV can be used for good, though. The Master went a little funny in the head, that's all. A force of super mutants could really help beat the Enclave, and then secure a lasting peace afterwards."

"Careful, there. It sounds like you're starting to think like the Master. Before he 'went a little funny in the head,' he was a brilliant scientist like yourself. A man named Dr. Richard Grey. Harold knew him, before FEV turned Dr. Grey into the monster he became. He had problems even before that, to be sure, but he too believed he was doing the right thing by assembling an army of super mutants. He thought he could unite the wastes and bring peace. If he had succeeded, humanity would have been doomed."

"Only because super mutants turned out to be sterile. Otherwise, they're superior to humans in almost every way. The Master made a miscalculation. If they could have reproduced-"

"I'm going to stop you right there. Harold was right about FEV. That stuff is bad news, period. I'm just relieved it's all gone."

Myron stopped talking. He was glad he had decided not to tell anyone about the FEV sample he had secretly taken with him from Vault City. It would have been a waste to just destroy it all, and the others wouldn't understand.
