Mutants, please read:
We've been getting a lot of messages & comments lately to do with progress and impatience... and I completely understand! I think it's time to talk about this project a bit and where it's going. I want to avoid writing a novel, but to summarize: I'm not the original creator of this mod, and a lot has happened since I joined around 2014. But very, very little happened in 2017, and I want to apologize for that.
One of the biggest problems Van Buren faces is that since it fell into my lap, I've had to think about how I want to do things. The original author deserves enormous credit for trying something so ambitious - but I do not believe the scope is realistic. It's hard to tell your biggest fans you'll have to deliver to them less than what you dreamed of, but I can assure you there's so much content already.
However, the bigger issue this mod faces is that while a lot of talented folks contributed their time and skills, progress wasn't documented or organized in a very professional way. This is something I had no control over at the time. At one point, we had to resort to a backup because a user had broken several tools, delaying work for months. I need to stress how difficult it is to revamp a project when there are no records to indicate what has/hasn't been done.
All that said, the last thing I want is this project to disappear and be forgotten. In the next two months, if I need to add some members to help be in charge, you fans definitely deserve that (and more). But even if it's a bit selfish, I'm hesitant to simply pass this project off to someone else. They'd be in no different a position than I'm already in, but would have no frame of reference. I also think you deserve the vision you were already sold on, and with someone else - who didn't work with the original author - there's no promise of that.
But I'm willing to let some others help lead the way, and I will contact some devs who I think are qualified to manage a project like this one.
In the meantime, I'd like to open the comments to a discussion: as an RPG fan, how long do you think is fair for a mod to be released? How do you feel about open-source type models where you can use software as-is before it's finished? Do you have any skills you think would be highly desirable for this mod?
Thanks for keeping around, no matter how cheesy it sounds, you are genuinely my favorite fans of Fallout
