Favorite and least favortie retcons?

"The X-01 series of Power Armor was specially engineered and employed by remnants of the U.S. military after the Great War, and offers increased protection over the older, pre-war models."
Except the problem is the untouched and fully functional X-01 in the display area in Nuka World and other batches of functioning X-01 PA in previously unexplored locations in the game. Almost like Enclave PA existed prior to its canonical creation in-universe.

Hence, the confusion on wikis and other places of discussion that have to bend over backwards to justify their existence, claiming that either the pre-War Enclave already built working prototypes (plausible though discreditable at times while allowing one to be public-ally view-able for some reason), the Enclave had a presence in Boston and simply left suits lying around (plausible but there are plenty of ways to discredit them too), or Bethesda's randomized loot system was not properly tested to prevent such lore inconsistencies.

Cats, those darn cats. Why did they bring cats back?!
Why not? Its the other side of the continent. Easily their most acceptable retcon. I hate how ghouls are completely ruined. At this point ghoulism is just a minor skin condition that grantd immortality.

I remember a AWESOME retcon in F4 that I truly love it. Assaultrons.

I know a lot of people do not like it, but I do. If only Bethesda could be creative like that with the whole game.

I cannot think of a retcon in any franchise I like.

Almost all of them revolve around cutting out imporant parts of the franchise, or simply wanking shit to be stupider.

I don't see where the confusion is here. And this is from Fallout 4, so...

An X-01 suit of power armour is on display at a fuckng theme park...Its even fully functional.

Like others mentioned, this is the problem, they even retcon their own games on the same game...
http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Quantum_X-01_power_armor
The Quantum X-01 power armor is identical in stats and model to standard X-01 power armor, but bears a unique custom paint job in a variety of shades of blue in theme of the then-new Nuka-Cola Quantum flavor. It also displays the Nuka-Cola Quantum logo embossed in metal, automotive-style lettering on the left breastplate.

I think that it should've been uniquely modeled Power Armor altogether instead of X-01. Make it a more impressive reward (though I can't remember what you have to do to get it, so maybe you'd also have to make it harder to get.)

How are assaultrons a retcon again?
They didn't exist before Fallout 4.

Only no. No one has ever talked about this before.
That's kind of the idea behind an additive retcon.

They didn't exist before Fallout 4.
So? Wannningos didn't exist before fallout 2? A retcon is basically an explained contradiction. The assaultron only contradicts the technological developmemt of the prewar world other than that...

I personally don't like them, I don't think they fit given the design of every other robotic. But they're not absolutely everywhere.

A couple more that I don't like is how AI is now widely self-aware, such as Codsworth and that man-hating assaultron vendor. Or the fact there's so many ghouls and most of them still have a full head of hair.

Assaultrons contradict bipedal pre-war robots, basically retconning prewar tech.

Bipedal prewar machines, are hulking giant robots.

So basically they're contradicting the existence of even Liberty Prime? No surprise, there.

I think liberty prime alone is a pretty silly design.

We see bipedal machines, much smaller ones, and they're much bulkier.

Liberty prime is too strong physically for its shape, which pisses me off.

Liberty Prime...funny how the Pre-War world couldn't get it to work and the Brotherhood couldn't get it to work...until of course the Lone Wanderer says "We need it now!" What, did Rothschild just give it a kick and suddenly it just kicked to life? Did he just happen to figure out what the exact problem was?

They say it was Dr Li who helped them find the problem... So one scientist in a post apocalyptic world with no "science" schools and pretty much no schools at all managed to figure out the problem that a full team of pre-war scientists who happened to have designed and constructed the damn robot couldn't figure.

That is another question, where did James and all of the scientists in FO3 came from? Where did they learn to become such amazing scientists? They weren't BoS and they weren't taught in Rivet City either since Dr Li comes to Rivet City after James leave the Project Purity. So where on the Capital Wasteland can people become super genius scientists?

Pre war basically mastered fusion tech, no fucking way postwar people other than the ENCLAVE could solve Liberty's power issues.
