Finally Got Bloodlines.

Don't play a Malkavian on your first playthrough. Wait for the second playthrough with it, as it effects the gameplay a lot and really is more fun, if you have finished the game already at least once.

Same for Nosferatu. Neither class is fully enjoyable on a first playthrough, more fun on a second or later.

Get the patch, maybe. I played without problems myself and I think the patch tweaks a lot on top of fixing some stuff, so it might be best to ride with the unofficial patch. Be aware of the risks tho.

Otherwise it's mostly self-evident. The char system is simple, the game's easy to get into. Just do the tutorial Jack offers you, and good to go.

failed to lock buffer in cmeshdx8::lockvertexbuffer

 What the hell is this? And why does it happen at the end of the loading screen after char creation???

Good choice. I did my first playthrough as a Brujah brawler. It's not the most creative class but lots of fun in its berserker modes. Have fun!

Actually, biting anyone is fine, as long as you stay out of sight. I've never bothered to pay for blood in the original, since you don't go thirsty. In the Camarilla mod you can actually die if you don't drink, though.

So yeah, I highly recommend the Camarilla mod as well as the high-resolution patch.

Camarilla mod is nice but also more for a 2nd playthrough.
My first playthrough was with a Ventrue who was fanaticaly loyal to the prince. I absolutely loved it and how it ended.

Link to high res patch? :)

It's a shame the engine is so horribly clumsy, because this is one of the best RPGs I've ever played. It's OK on a good system, but running it on anything less than (or equal to) the recommended settings can be tedious.

Either way, good choice going for Brujah for the first playthrough. Spend your XP points wisely, they're pretty scarce - I let them stock up and only spend when I absolutely need to raise some stat(s).

Well when you really search for anything about Bloodlines you should visit http://planet-vampire.com/
I know, it's sounds and looks (at first glance) like some stupid site, but it's the active community site (at least it was when i checked last time ;) ).

The modders are there as is the main man behind the unoffical patches ... so yeah ;)

It's one of the best FP RPGs around, even if you're getting railroaded and whatnot.

Enjoy your first playthrough to the fullest, it's an awesome experience.

And yes, keep Malk & Nosferatu for future playthroughs.

Nothing much to say except: PATCH THE THING. It was horribly bugged at release. There's fan made patches that fix nearly everything, but be careful which you pick, some add content or change things. Good for later playthroughs, but a "vanilla" patch is best for the first time around, I think.

I would highly recommend using the Wesp5 (7.2) patch.
Choose basic install (save plus* for future playthroughs.)

The tool Ausdoerrt mentioned is included so you can change your resolution to whatever you want.

It is located in:

x:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\vampire the masquerade - bloodlines\Tools

http://www.patches-scrolls.de/vampire_bloodlines.php

*"The optional plus version can be chosen when installing the Unofficial patch and restores a lot of unfinished stuff that was found in the game files. Contrary to the Camarilla Edition these are all things that were more or less already included with the game but just not accessible. See below for a short list: "

Yeah, can't go wrong with a Brujah with Celerity/Potence or a Gangrel with Protean/Fortitude (my first choice).

My advice would be: just play the game, don't read in forums. There are some major plot twists - you don't want to spoil yourself.

For a second playthrough i can recommend the Clan Quest mod.
