Finally someone that saw FO3 up close and personal.

"faire n'importe quoi" = "doing whatever" literally. doesnt have a thing to do with "no matter what", which has a whole different meaning altogether (it's more like "à tout prix").

in this context it's meant that he hopes they'll stay true to the legacy of FO. if you rephrase that, he hopes they dont fuck it up...

euh no
the real sense of the sentence is more near "he hopes they dont fuck it up" , but this translation involve implicitly yours

->mikael grizzly
sry but there are also french who think fallout is the best rpg ever created :P

Stop whining, ladies. I did write "botch the job", as there's no direct French-English translation for "faire n'importe quoi", and that's what it means.

Fermez vos gueules, maintenant. :D

Well if they do the game on that Oblivion engine and with that "big dialog system" this " is a joke :) like Oblivion i personally i am NOT going to buy the game even if Fallout is a very dear game to me. One thing i can say I hope they don`t mess it up . I don`t know to much design but i can say i realy want to see Fallout 3 isometrical like f1 f2 and fbos

Surely you mean "Fallout 1, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics?

Because F:BOS (or FOBOS, or better yet FOPOS) is a crappy TPP console shoooter (sic!).

if they do anything of the sort, it'll be FPRPG, not fps.

sadly their definition of RPG kinda sucks.

& kid, dont double post, it's frowned upon on this forum.

Don't double post, learn to type and learn the forum rules, please.

The "Edit" and "Spellcheck" buttons are your friends.

J'ai vu... de belles choses.

Par contre j'ai vu ce que donnait oblivion aussi et j'espere que Bethesda saura developper un Fallout sans faire n'importe quoi.
Here's a rough translation:
I saw a wall of artwork, in front of the dude that was working on it [a wall with game art all over it].

I saw... pretty [or beautifull] things.

On the other side, I saw what Oblivion was too, and I hope Bethesda will know how to make a Fallout game without botching the job [literally, "without doing it carelessly.

In fact, the real translation would be something along the lines of :

"I had to stare at a wall of artwork, the guy working on it holding a gun to my head.

So i had to see... pretty things.

Then again, I also know how good Oblivion turned out to be, in the end. So I hope Bethesda stay true to that path, and create a decent Fallout."

So you see, all hope is not lost. Even if some artwork dudes, think they can do their "own Fallout", Bethesda will probably put it right (as in Oblivion) and we can still hope for a true sequel. With all the good Fallout stuff (from wonderful 3D rendered forests to unkillable NPCs) and maybe some new stuff that would SO fit in the Fallout universe, like maybe... daedric deathclaws ?

EDIT : The spellckecker, whoever that guy is, doesn't recognize the word Deathclaw, I say : "ban him !"

You fooled me for a moment!

However there is something that we have to consider as a strong possibility that Fallout 3 may be well accepted by the press and the new generation of gamers and the casuals. This means that our chances of ever seeing a deep crpg of the quality of Fallout again will be very low but not impossible.

For a lot of people Oblivion was a fun game. The new generation doesn't have a clue about what computer role-playing is about because they never played anything better than the usual Final Fantasy crap. I was very suprised that even with the completely disfunctional char system in Oblivion where Conan The Barbarien can be the head of mages guild and thieves guild by killing anything that moves still most people finds enjoyment in the game. However the char system wasn't a problem because it didn't impose any restrictions or consequences so it didn't bothered the player in any way. In fact some idiots may even consider they did something great when they raised to the top of a mages guild without being able to cast a spell. Which shows that players who are looking for role-playing aren't necessarly looking for deep role-playing or they don't know any better.

Bethesda only has to follow the Oblivion receipt for Fallout 3. They make an action adventure game with gorgeous graphics and a minimaly well writen story / set of paralel stories, linear as hell and with the compass telling players what they should do in every step, but still interesting for an action adventure game and most players will love it. I bet they will have the usual Oblivion sandbox in a 3d world with action combat maybe with pause. They will have SPECIAL for good publicity but most likely the player will be able to create a super-char that can do every single quest and not be restricted by any skill as they tend to these days with all crpgs.

In short they will create the game the publisher tells them to create based on marketing info and the one maximizes their profit since they pay their salaries and can fire their asses directly.

It's going to be hard to see this happening. Im affraid that if when their game becomes a success they will feel themselves justified by their sellings. Criticising them directly even when it's obvious these guys are clueless about crpgs its only going to make things worst for us in the eyes of the new gaming generation that may genuinely enjoy the game for the lack of a better reference.

So the only solution i see is to create an indie game that teaches new players what deep role-playing is about. On the other side using Bethesda game construction set would be a good target for boycoting. I am having lots of problems trying to mod Daggerfall with their Oblivion TESCS. They restricted it so much that it prevents anyone from making a different game than their current selling view. So i supose they will do the same with F3. Well screw them and their good intentions with modders.

Oh yeah ...if they do that we can probably aspect to see that all the weapons are melee like a super sludge hammer a spear a knife :) maybe some jungle :))

A SuAside may i ask u what is your age? thats before i get to curse part :)

Nah,my hope is just too low,i can't fool myself anymore,i just stopped wasting time thinking how the game will be,they are just too greedy, they just want money,so,i say goodbye LOL
I will continue playing fallout 1 and 2 for a long time :)

and if bethesda had the wonderful idea to make of fallout3 the perfect game that all true rpg fans are waiting for??

we can always dream ....

Elander:

Yes, there is a growing rift between gamers that appreciate a good role playing experience and those that are simply out to bash some skulls in. However, there are gamers out there that have seen and enjoyed both areas of gaming. I have both enjoyed the deep role playing nature of the original Fallout games and also enjoyed the action rpg style of Morrowind and Oblivion.
I have hopes that Bethesda will recreate the Fallout game world with great accuracy, but I also have come to accept the chances that there will be some questionable decisions made. What will probably occur is that we will have something like what Ratner did with X-Men 3. The game will still be enjoyable and contain some great features and moments, but the focus of the game will be different to what many of the original fans will expect. And thus there will be many disagreements.

As for publisher, Bethesda are their own publishing company, though they will most likely enlist the help of Take 2 for distribution. As with almost all games these days, you have to appeal to the widest audience possible in order to make a profit as publishers and retailers take quite a large slice of profits from the developers.
That is, unless you release the game over an online system such as Steam. Though I have the feeling most of you will be against this idea.
