Finnish magazine Pelit previews Fallout: New Vegas

Look, Ma! Two Heads!
Apparently, there's some new info on New Vegas in the current issue of a Finnish magazine called Pelit. Obsidian's forums user Flouride cared to post about it here:
Some new? info from Finnish gaming magazine Pelit:

- Weapons have unique/individual qualities. Some cause critical hits to head, others will damage your limbs severely for example circular saw will eat your fingers.

- Death animations vary depending which weapon you are using.

- Different gangs and villages might evolve during your gameplay while you are not watching. For example random Raider gang might find a hidden weapons cache and rise to power.

- One new picture (at least for me) which shows concept art of an NCR Ranger Armor.

Finns, get to work! The people need translations and scanslations!

I can help translate if someone has the scans...

Jeesh. This "exclusive" stuff really was one big international press conference.

Let's hope some sites were also there and their embargo will be lifted too (as clearly these magazines were under embargo until the UK/US had taken precedence), because I'm getting a bit tired of this magazine nonsense.

Pretty sure the NCR armor concept art would be this. Also, looks like the article is even available online for people with an account.

Then we would at least get some good quality images.

So what, I can't cleanly cut people's heads off with teddy bears anymore? LAAAAAME.

Somehow this sounds almost like STALKER CS faction wars.

This was technically the case in FO3 too, so we'll have to wait to see what it means.

Anyway, that seems like a poor translation. I don't believe that the game has finger damage.

I wonder if that progression is about the Powder Gang, which supposedly appears later if you don't deal with them. Also, I don't quite get the "eating fingers part" - it means it can cut off your fingers during critical failure? And lastly, that NCR Ranger pic BN showed is sweet.

BTW Raul is Mr Burke turned into ghoul as a divine punishment from God, after the Looser Wanderer blew up Megaton.

Like the translation says the critical damage is done to your limbs (legs&arms). The fingers are there just as an example, not exactly sure if there's a death animation with the circular saw or if it's just there to make the point clearer. Or who knows, maybe they've made unique targets for some weapons.

The exact quote from the magazine in Finnish:

"Osa aiheuttaa kriittisiä osumia päähän ja toiset purevat erityisen hyvin raajoihin (kuten sormia syövä sirkkeli)"

Somewhat freely translates into

"Some cause critical hits to the head, while others will do heavy damage to your limbs (like the circular saw that eats fingers)"

And the pic you guys have linked isn't the one I was talking about on Obsidian forums. There's 1 concept art picture of NCR Ranger Armor from both front and back which has like a water backpack, tugged in scarf, knife on the breastplate, insignia (Ranger decal). Doesn't look anything like that guy on the cover of the magazine.

There's no mention of Powder Gang in the preview. They do mention Caesar's Legion, Locals, NCR and the robot who saves you.
The article mentions villages and gangs that might/will evolve as the story progresses (while you ain't looking). Some gaining power and some losing it.

Here's the finnish quote so someone else can translate it as well:

"Tarkoituksena on, että maailma elää silloinkin, kun pelaaja ei katso. Pääryhmittymien ohella autiomaassa on kyliä ja jengejä joiden voimasuhteet vaihtelevat taustatarinan edetessä. Mitättömältä vaikuttava rosvokopla saattaa löytää hylätyn asevaraston ja nousta joutomaan valtiaaksi."

Flou!

Please translate and/or give us tidbits from the magazine! Hurray!

(an image of the new NCR ranger art would be interesting too)

I don't remember such a thing as "death animations" in fallout 3.

all i remember was

a) Enemy falls down like a puppet.

or

b) Enemy goes up then down like a puppet.

or

c) Enemy limb explodes due to critical hit, the rest of the body falls down like a puppet.

or

d) Enemy turns to a pile of dust and falls down like a pile of dust.

The original Fallouts had death animations.

Basically it's just the same stuff every other magazine has released as exclusive with only those few new tidbits I posted on Obsidian forums that I hadn't seen elsewhere.

Don't have a scanner so can't get you any pictures

I didn't have that big a problem with the death animations (exploding heads never get boring) but I was irrataited by how artificial it was. There are two major things that need to change.

-Use scripted animations as well as rag doll. It is possible to have both, Left 4 Dead manages it with an engine that's about 7 years old.

-Don't just limit the destructible body parts to head and limbs. Once again, look at left 4 head, especially the sequel. If you shoot someone in the stomach the part of the stomach you shot it missing. When you shoot someone in the head, they shouldn't always come flying off or explode. Sometimes a chunk of the face should be blown off.

And something else just for fun.

-Loss of limbs shouldn't always mean death. I'd love it if I blew off a chunk of a raiders face and he was still trying to shoot me. Or I blew off a Super Mutants leg and he started hopping. It wouldn't necessarily always make sense but Fallout always put awesome before real life when it came to violence.

I just wonder how much the Gamebryo engine is capable of.

Cool, wonder if they'll implement the opposing party idea from VB. Would be even better.
Also perkele.

I had a favour to ask one of you Photoshop geniuses, the guy with the Gas mask and the Revolver in his hand on this Thread on the first post can someone Photoshop him without the letters I'd love that as my new Avatar and or picture in general.

The meaning is that the world lives even when the player isn't looking.
In addition to the main factions there are villages and gangs who shift in power as the background story progresses. A gang of bandits who seem weak might find an abandoned weapons cache and rise up to be the rulers of the wasteland.

Super quick translation if anyones interested.
