First playthrough experience

First time out of the vault
Ok so about a couple of months ago, having only played fallout 3, I decided to purchase FO2 off steam. I enjoyed it for the most part. The Temple of Trials was annoying but fun none the less. After that i left and then had to free that one guy, forgot his name. Havent touched it since. I'll probably start over and do it right. The question of this thread is. When you first bought Fallout 1, 2, or 3. What did you first think of it? Did you like it? Btw im talking the first FO you ever played. I enjoyed FO2 in the little time that i played it.

The first Fallout I ever played would be... Fallout.

What I first thought of it is was: I like that box art, let's buy it and play it.

And did I like it? Fuck yes.

I played: F3, F2, F and FOT in order :P

First impression of Fallout 3: "Except for those in Vault 101, who were spared from the horrors of the atomic wasteland, this is your home, and here in vault 101 no one ever enters, no one ever leaves."

Me: This game will be very boring then...

First impression of Fallout 2: HOW THE FUCK DO I OPEN THIS DOOR!? WHY I CAN"T LOOT THESE ANTS!?

First impression of Fallout: For some reason I can't run after double-clicking... at least random people actually have something to trade...

FOT: Am I driving yet?

its nice you manage the Fo1/2 graphics curve (i am not sure i could in your place)

anyway, i played: F1, F2, FOT, F1/2+mods, F3, with idea of nuclear bombing Bethesda, now FO2 RP2.0
i might check FO3 with mods, but i am more inclinde to wait for FO LV + half a year for some mods to show up...

Got Fallout 2 from a friend not knowing what I was getting myself into. I was amazed by all the options you were given, it was the first time I ever played anything like it. That was kinda the problem with me, half way into the game I'd want to start over and make a different kind of character. At one point I said this is too good, let me buy the first game, beat that a few times and return to the 2nd one. After beating FO a few times I could not bring myself to finish FO2 until Tactics came out.

Playing FO2 was a pain at the start because of endless annoying combat (like those encounters with 12 scorpions) but after half of the missions in Klamath were completed I got completely addicted and couldn't stop until I blew up the oil rig.

About Fallout I only reached Shady Sands... I tried some mods like the unnoficial patch and a companion enchancer mod, but they broke Ian (and probably any other companion in the game) so I ragequit Fallout.

Will probably put on my PC again and just play it with an oficial patch since it looks like a simple but more complete fallout 2...

Sacrilegious – to abandon Fallout, without even getting beyond Shady Sands…I insist you try again, because IMO it is the best Fallout game out of the three (I don’t count the Bethesda crap to be a proper Fallout game – and that Xbox rubbish isn’t worth thinking of). Fallout 1 is slightly clunky – you need a bit of patience, and be forgiving of some of the flaws (such as being boxed by bloody Ian, or Ian blowing the back of your head off with his SMG), but the storyline and plot are extraordinary…I would love to work on it sometime in the future.

I came across the Fallout 1 demo on some demo collection CD. I think I did everything possible and then did all that again.

Then I found Fallout somewhere on a budget rack and immediately bought it. I was hooked.

Same thing then with Fallout 2 and Tactics.

A while ago I got a PS3 and bought Fallout 3. Still love 'em all. I'm still playing Fallout 1 from time to time, when I finish that, I'll restart Fallout 2.

I played the original Fallout when it was first released, fell in love with it immediately, I just couldn't shut up about it, and got many of my mates hooked up to it also.
Then came Fallout 2 and I spend even more time playing it over and over trying to see and do everything possible in game's world. It was pure love that what i felt for those two games.
When I heard of an incoming tactical combat game set in Fallout universe, I had a raging boner, being the JA2 fan I am. When I finally get to play Tactics I was kind of dissapointed but I played it to the end more than one time (1st playthrough was legit, then I used a savegame editor, creating super soldiers and raping shit for the lulz of it.)
And last month I finally decided to give a try to Fallout 3. Uninstalled it after 2 hours of playing.

You know: I've been thinking about this and what I seem to remember best of all of that first playthrough is that it went really smooth. That's mayhaps very simply put, but when I was still an avid gamer I did in fact rarely have that experience: that the gameplay felt natural, that you could just sorta go with the flow and take it all in whilst enjoying it. Here was this open world where I could do just about everything I wanted to do, but I did not feel lost at all, whilst I regularly played games where the options were much fewer, yet where I wouldn't have a clue on how to proceed or make it work for me. I hated that when I still gamed and unfortunately most games seem to belong to that category. Fallout didn't require that of me. Age of Empires didn't require that of me either: you could just step into the game and sssssswooooooooooooooooooossssh! you were playing and enjoying it.
I guess that's just craftsmanship, though. And good things are hard to ignore.

My two cents.

Agree…good gaming should be smooth sailing – the only thing I found frustrating about Fallout was the fact I had pass so much baggage to my friends, but often I had to steal it all back – and the “take all” button in Fallout 2 did make life a little easier. I dream of a rebuilt Fallout 1…with some expanded areas, quests, adventures…and improved critters, maps, scripting…will it be done – only when someone hacks the official Mapper and allows the Fallout 1 maps to be edited.
