First XCOM screens

I like how in all of the previews I've read, they've said that they're not going to use any of the old X-COM aliens because they want the game to be scary by having aliens people wouldn't have thought of.

Then we get black blobs and floaty rectangles.

I might have been tempted had they brought back Chrysalids or Ethereals or Sectopods, those fuckers were scary.

One of my brother's friends has nightmares about Chrysalids. Facing 10 at once will do that to someone.
Blobs and rectangles have nothing on these guys.

I understand the desire to create the 'ultimate other', giving them shapes we can find incomprehensible or non threatening at all, but that honestly is best reserved for a science fiction game that doesn't use the X Com name.

The creatures that the previous posters mentioned are iconic to the games, the developers should have either used those or creatures in the same vein.

Instead the game I have been shown has nothing in common with the X Com name.

I think a far better move would be to remove what little connection there is between this game and the X Com franchise and instead make it its own thing.

They're not really gonna do that now, seeing as they had to pay to use the XCOM name for this game. And that they've already shown trailers for it using the XCOM name.

To put it simply: this game has nothing to do with XCOM because the target audience probably hasn't played XCOM, but BioShock. They are using the XCOM name simply to mooch off the dead franchise's famous name. Every mainstream shit-site always put an XCOM game in their "top 100" even if they never played any of them, and this gains recognition from the masses.

There is nothing good about this image.
