[FO2] Ass getting kicked alot. need pointers.

Hit up New Reno and quest there for a while. You can do most of them without ever engaging in combat, and there are TONS of things to steal.

Also, Sulik is amazing. Just give him a sharpened spear (take away that terrible sledgehammer) and he'll tear things up.

you can steal from those? do you need a high steal skill or what? I never seem to be able to steal from the shelves.

 

If your character isn't doing very well in combat, you should get Myron and do the quest to get the Jet antidote. After that you can use Jet on yourself for every fight, which makes them all much easier. After every fight, use first aid or rest to pass about 30 minutes ingame and then give yourself the antidote.

Conversely, if you have to get into a huge fight with people who aren't hostile to you yet (like Metzger's slavers) you can always drug them up, then wait for them to have withdrawal effects (you need to learn how long drugs last). This lowers their fighting effectiveness (alcohol also makes them worse shots with their guns) and it's a legitimate method for weaker characters on harder difficulties.

Edit: One important thing to remember, however, is that using a drug on one type of critter, say a raider in leather armor, makes all raiders in leather armor with the same sprite (i.e. bald versus not bald count as different critters) get the bonus. This part probably does count as cheating, but oh well

And traps are useless.

 

Sneak is an all or nothing investment. Either you will have great results with a high score, or no results with any other percentage.

Lock pick only needs to go up to about 110~120% or so to unlock even the hardest doors in the game.

One can definitely beat the game with small guns, but if you are swimming in skill points, having guns with more punch can make the end game a fair bit easier.

And, as said before, traps are useless in a standard playthrough. There's one quest involving traps and it only requires some small amount like 80% or so.

You probably want to have your team fight at long range in that map. Have Vic and Cassidy use hunting rifles. Will Marcus accept a hunting rifle?

 

Marcus isn't good with the small guns. Give him some armor piercing ammo rather.

 

Come back with better armor. Leather armor on Sulik explains why he's dying. Roll in with at least metal armor on everyone - if not combat armor.

 

The raider cave is a tough fight. Wear combat armour to feel more comfy, like JesusC said, and equip everyone who is able to use one with a hunting rifle. Also do not set them to "Charge!" 'cause that's a potential recipe for disaster. You'll want to take them out from a distance as much as possible.

I always have the tendency to shoot every foe at least once so they feel obligated to come for me. Meanwhile the gang can finish them off more easily. The AI in these games isn't exactly SHODAN, if you know what I mean.

 

No, the minigun belongs to the "big guns" category, it's ok. The hunting rifle is "small gun":

 

I would suggest investing in Energy weapons, sneak is not very useful imo.


But play the game the way you like it

 

I think the Gauss Rifle is the best end-game weapon.


Considering that you have the correct perks and character points of course...

 

I prefer .223 pistol, because getting ammo for Gauss can be somewhat of a bother. Once you get sniper perk, .223 is all you need to kick ass anyway.

 

Go to San Francisco, and talk to the brotherhood guy there, then the man should start talking about enclave and a vertybird plan, accept the mission he offered you, then go to Navarro, after you killed the man in the robes, go down to the base, and after you walked north, then west, keep going to the place with locker in it, inside the lockers there is advance power armour mark1, a plasma rifle and bombs and ammo and a combat shotgun, but finish the mission because it give a lot of exp and because if you get the verybird plan the brotherhood guy will allow you to go inside his base and downstairs there are more lockers which have the best energy weapon in the game, the pulse rifle,(if you don't want energy weapons you can sell them for a lot of money), hope this helped.

 

Keep in mind that one should ALWAYS get Algernon to upgrade any and all weapons that can be upgraded when you come accross them, before you <wowterm>vendor them</wowterm>. Definitely don't sell the Plasma rifle un-upgraded (the original sells for $4000; Turbo sells for $10000)
