First time out of the vault
Fallout 1&2 Editing Kit (new app)

Hello all,

im new to these forums, a while ago i had started re writing the Fallout2SurvivalKit app after i realized it was a bit crappy and couldn't find a source code or get a hold of the developer. Well i got busy and put it down for a while, but i just started working on it again. Parsing all the fun data to hack is easy, and i have been able to get the UI thus far in only a few days. The daunting task ahead is figuring out the GOE creation kit part of things, it may make things take much longer. Anyways, i am posting 2 screenshots of the app so far. its a bit ugly still in its early stages but it serves its purpose.

If you are interested in contributing in anyway, or giving feedback i will
be hosting a topic for it at my forums @
Codemonkey Forums

and my website is
http://codemonkeysoftware.tk

ill also try to keep checking in back here. Thanks everyone and i would really like to hear what you all think so please, give me some feedback!!!

Your site told me this:

Did you know that your browser is out of date?

To get the best possible experience using our website we recommend that you upgrade your browser to a newer version. The current version is Internet Explorer 8. The upgrade is free. If you're using a PC at work you should contact your IT administrator.

If you want to you may also try some other popular secure modern Internet browsers like Firefox, Opera, Safari or Google Chrome. These browsers are very secure, have better support for latest technologies and are much faster than Internet Explorer.

There is no excuse to use a 8 years old outdated web browser.
First of all: if I want to use IE 6, I will use IE 6. I don't need a reminder telling me local commerce has made yet another version of the same thing and I should jump on the wagon. Seriously.

Also: one is advised to not use Firefox, but apparently one is also advised to basically get the newest version of the bestest browser to view your site and actually enjoy the experience. That's asking a little much of your audience or maybe just bad coding on your part, no?

Thirdly: those 'screens' are unclickable. I can't make anything out of them when they are so ridiculously small. And there's no point to visiting your site seeing I need to register to actually see something worthwhile concerning this project. Again: that's asking a little too much of your audience. People like easy access and who says me registering on your site will not get me a shitload of spam in my inbox?

Four: you double-posted. There is an edit button. Just saying.

But cool project, I guess. I'd be able to say more if I could actually see more.

Ok, it looks like i have some explaining to do.

about that weird message, i suspect once again, its iWeb related. I honestly never knew it even came up until you told me. I and the majority of visitors appear to be using Safari.

The message saying "site look crappy, try a browser other that firefox"
is once again related to iWeb

i am a desktop developer. i code in RB and C++ so i dont know the first thing about coding my page

as for the tiny screens i apologize. the need to resister has been removed to view the FoEK thread and see the screen shots in full glory.

Code Monkey good luck with this project, anything that improves the game in the long run is a positive for me. But please finish it, don’t tease us with something potentially useful and then disappear for the next 3 years. The modders love new tools, but hate leaving empty handed…and because we are often working on Fallout in one form or another we have a pretty good idea as to what is useful and not (the functionality), but I think this thread would be better in the modding forum.

Agreed. This is something i am very passionate about, being that i am a fan of the fallout series and an avid player. i am moving cross country over the next week but will be able to do minor coding during that time.
I am moving all of this to the modding section

I was told i should have started this thread in the modding section
so here we are

I was using the Fallout Survival Kit the other day and decided it sucked, after not being able to get a hold of the developer, nor source code i have decided to re-write it and of course make it better.

I would very much like this app to reflect what the fallout community wants, so please feel free to give feedback and ideas.

i have set up a thread on my forums specifically for talking about this app

please feel free to take a look, but to respond you must join
(hey, its a brand new forum and i need people!)

Thanks

on my site forums for the app (which can now be viewed and polled on as a guest) there is a poll of what systems you would like it for

i can easily convert it to

PC and Linux because its written in RB, right now its Mac based, but to change it would literally take a day at the most.

it is not a trainer. it directly modifies the statistics within the SAVE.DAT file right now. it also only will work if you use it before you leave arroyo the first time, this will be the last thing i implement. its a matter of directly using offsets for locations rather than an algorithm to locate them

Basically you can open this app at any time, change the stats and see the change immediately in game. More of a hack or editor then a trainer.

ive moved all this discussion to the fallout modding thread i started. please post there for now or at my forums

I guess it lacks a bit on options.
Some other editors i've seen have a lot of options like change tags for example.

I suggest you grab a few established editors (FALCHE2, F2se), investigate their workings, and outdo them. But these two have been around a long time and work well, so it won’t be easy.

this is a very very early version. im just nailing down stats at this point.
next stop is items, like in GECK. after that i hope to make it so you may edit tags, install mods, and ultimately (hopefully) edit maps. all this in due time, after all this app is only a week old! When the stats half is nailed down ill start asking around about the GECK half. any info would be appreciated. Also if you would like to be a part of this project let me know. i have allot of testing and hexing to do and you will of course be credited with helping in the development for the release.

F2WEDIT by Cubik is already very good:
http://cubik2k.w.interia.pl/en_index.htm

Vads Savegame editor is the best one in terms of mod compatibility:
http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=46523&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

Now a map editor on the other hand would make you famous. The current editor is very annoying and out of date. Some people can't even get it to work.
