FOnline: 2238 announced

Hhahha yeah I remember the ole hell days!

How you had to hug the edge of the fence to avoid being blown to bits by the turrets.

As much as I want a classic style Fallout online, this is what's going to happen:

At launch, most non-hardcore people will roll their desired RP character (traders, mechanics, chemist, etc)...

...but then a week after when the 24/7 elitist crowd gains PA and AR (and they will), they'll get bored and just go on a killing spree (as said by previous poster).

After that, most people who dreamed of becoming something else than a fighter in the wasteland will quit, or re-roll cookie cutter characters just to survive.

This will happen unless game mechanics are put in place.
(and no, simple guards will not do the trick)

Again: There is no PA or APA ingame for "normal" players. So IF some "normal" player can get their hands on a PA or APA, we can bann them because of cheating in some kind of way.

Also keep in mind, that the Fallout world is still a harsh world and 100% non combat characters will definitive have a very hard time.

Yeah, and making PA and APA so unique will create some other reaction. Going outside with your power armor can be lethal. Why? Because everyone want one of those, right? ;> I believe PA/APA people will have some harsh time, even if they'll actually acquire it.
Man, can't wait ;_;
By the way; Anyone is willing to role-play some kind of gang member?;>
And i also can't wait to see some kind of english forums/homepage for the project or stuff like that.

Well, we have kind of the skills to give PA and or APAs that don't drop on death.

How does it look with playable races? Are there humans only?

Some factions as remains of Unity could recruit by transforming human player to supermutant changing his physical form and some of his/her stats. Also long time expose to high radiation could have some side effects like 3rd eye etc and if player could survive such dose, then eventually morph human into ghoul.

Or maybe make creation of different race unlockable by ingame quest-chain for each race. Well there are many ways how to implement different races to the game and I think it would make things a little more spicy.

Desert maps / maps from random encounters will be deleted every time all players have leaved this map. In a city everything stays as long as nobody takes it or the server will be restarted.

that makes me think about something else - what about the "flux" of items in the game? Fonline won't be some kind of Diablo 2 where you will get items falling out from the corpse of a random critter. Also, I don't remember seeing NPC's in random encounters like riders etc. that would leave equipment. You will be able to do your own stuff, but still it will use up resources in the first place. I assume that quests may give you some things (although I hope not, or at lest that the rewards will be in the form of ammo or money so there won't be too many people running around with the same type of equipment). Apart from that there are objects on the world map, but within the first few hours of the game they will be probably all picked up. Also, if items happen to be left in a map outside town they will disappear.

Thus, I was wondering how will you guys control the amount and type of stuff which will circulate in the world (like i.e. shops, but you need to have resources to buy or exchange in the first place)? Not necessarily in terms of the August beta.

I got the (hopefully correct) impression that Fonline is not designed to be based around gathering loot etc. and you want the resources to be rather scarce, like it should be in a proper post-apo game. But still, it would be good to have some kind of system that would scale the amount of stuff in the world - to be able to feed in or remove objects from the "market" depending on the amount of active players.

Only humans. Playing as ghoul or supermutant isn't fun anyway because you can not run, etc. At first it is funny to run around like that but it will not need much time until it just sucks to be so slow.

Well... kill a critter and you get what he has had in his inventory.

Shops have x amount of items and get y amount of items every z time. If x amount of items is higher than value a, he doesn't get new items, he loses items. This way we avoid traders with 10 miles long inventorys.

Hey guys as soon as my FO2 disk arrives Im all in to start testing.

Who do I need to talk to about that??

I believe a certain group, at least, will be back and roaming the wastes... ;)

Are you talking about Rotators ? 'Cause now the dev' team is named that way, I don't know if we could rebuild an in-game gang with that name.

Even if the totally new and great looking Mothership Zeta screenshot is catching all the attention at the moment, we have our first developers video online. You guys can catch in on our (also new) dev blog:

hom, another thing:

I understand that one will be able to make your own stuff, like spears, zip guns and such. Are the resources required to make such objects, like wooden pike or flint, only accessible from a shop / NPCs or can one actually make them yourself? Like using your outdoorsman / repair / science skill on a tree to get a wooden pike and on a pile of rocks to get a flint?

You can get material from various sources. You can chop wood, search junk, etc. There is already a lot possible and we have plans to make even more.

Right. You only need to use specific item on the resource you want to have (e.g. hatchet on a tree) and, if you are capable of doing it, you'll get some basic resource. Capable means passing a skill check, which can be "none" in case of acquiring brahmin meat or "90% repair" in case of finding electronic parts in the junk.

Cool!

About the video (at first, I've missed the video by accident ;p) - very unexpected change to San Fran (to me at least), but it's quite logical. It's good in a way to do a bit of changes to refresh the F2 experience, but keep your balance guys, too much changes to the lore may change the game completely!

In general:  and keep up the good work!
