Game OST interviews Mark Morgan

Well, to be honest, I don't even know the copyright situation there. Does he even own the right to distribute his music? That might be in the hands of either Interplay or Bethesda or both by now.

Copyrights are much less strict in Russia.

Yes, I know.

So you're saying they'll publish in Russia only? Because it doesn't matter where the publisher is, it matters where he distributes to. If they try to distribute to the US, they fall under US law.

When we were taken interview, we asked Mark if he have the rights to publish music or he need to ask Interplay first. Mark said, that all publish rights belong to him. Same goes for his music for TV-shows.

Some details. Soundtrack will be released worldwide. Music will contain not only Fallout tracks, but also Fallout 2 as well + bonuses. This is what Vald tell me.

Would be cool if the CD had not only tracks that are available directly in the game files, but also ones like the tanker theme from FO2.

Remastered? From what, the mp3s? And done by some Russian studio no one has ever heard of? And close collaboration with some 20-something Russian dude?

That all sounds way, way unlikely.

After I've heard about Jason Anderson working on FOOL, nothing will surprise me.

Yeah, I heard it too. As for the soundtrack, I'll buy it just for the record. I already listened to it faaar too many times

In Soviet Russia, Mark Morgan finds *you*...

This is great news if it turns out to be true. The man Morgan is a living legend I tells thee. I still regularly listen to the mp3's of the FO music.

You decided to hate Mark's music since Big Bang.

I hate everything that's happened since the Big Bang! Nothing but newfangled revisionism! I mean, look at this crap, is this supposed to be a true sequel to the Big Bang? More like a spin-off.

Thanks!

This was sig-worthy!

When I first played Fallout, I never really noticed the soundtrack. It's so much in the background, and that's what makes it so good. After a few years, I was developing a fascination with more ambient stuff and came back to the Fallout soundtrack and basically fell in love. I still listen to it quite a lot despite having played the games so many times.

Funny how Tims games always seemed to have a rather unique vision, including the music. Fallout, Arcanum (which is great also), Vampire (though I'm not a fan of the whole goth thing, it certainly fits in). ToEE is the most forgettable I suppose, but that Hommlet theme was absolutely beautiful and created a rather unique atmosphere.

I've grown a bit tired of the orchestral music often found in games nowadays, but I must admit that I would've been extremely interested in hearing the PS:T soundtrack with an orchestra mixed with the more electronic parts.

I really hope Mark Morgan gets back into game music at some point or another, he's truly one of the most underrated game composers I know of.

Also, for anyone liking his stuff, Obsidians NWN2 expansion called the Mask of the Betrayer is actually quite similar in many ways. Much more experimental than your standard RPG soundtrack, and quite varied as well. Best game soundtrack I've heard in a very long time.

The first few times i played Fallout, i used to turn the music completely off. It wasn't annoying, no, but i just preferred playing that way for some reason.

Now i consider the music from Fallout 1 and 2 to be among the very best dark ambient pieces i have ever heard (and i heard a LOT).

Salute, mr Morgan, and kudos to the Russians for finding him and doing this interview!
