General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

I've been playing Sims 2 and Most Wanted.
Although I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a copy of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl.

I've been playing red faction guerrilla lately. Its really great but not perfect. I like the idea you can smash anything, without any frame drop. The multiplayer kinda sucks but what the hell I'm not that big of an online gamer, plus single player can get a bit repetitive but its still fun to play.

Downloaded Messiah.
How did anyone give this shit higher than two stars on GOG? Good god.

Because when it came out it was awesome. Sluggish controls and half the time you had no effin' clue where you were going but the setting is so interesting in a 90s way it drags you back.
Also it was the first game to have a harpoon gun that stuck people to walls. :P

@ MrBumble: Yea Saint's Row 2 is horrible on the PC though if you have a 360 and a mate to co-op it is so good, especially if said mate is a bit naff when it comes to flying helicopters.

It's also good on the ps3 but the thing is that it doesn't have any trophies.

On the plus side at least it has DLC, the PC version doesen't even get that.

playing Far Cry, it isn't bad, it has a good atmosphere, and its fun, but driving vehicles on a keyboard is a bit...strange to say the least.

I doubt it's the keyboard. Driving just isn't very good in Far Cry. I have a gamepad and I play GTA4 with keyboard and enjoy the hell out of driving. But Far Cry isn't much of a driving game anyway, so driving parts serve their purpose - mostly to get from one point to another and do some occasional shooting with the vehicle gun. Not a bad game at all, certainly much better than FC2.

You haven't gamed till you have had a Rhino Orgy on Quarantine. Private matches are so much fun. If you get a good team together general matchmaking is pretty fun too.

Playing KILLZONE 2. The games atmosphere is nice but the dialogues are so damn cheesy and corny that it really fucking hurts when one of the marines starts to talk.

from what i have heard the DLC's are both only 2 or 3 missions and a couple of vehicles, nothing more.

Playing KILLZONE 2

I thought it was a great game, until I noticed how the shadows were shitty and the textures in a close look looked like they've come directly from the PSX.

I've been playing lots of Red Alert 3 and The Sims 3, ultimately. Sometimes I find time to play Age of Empires 3, Chessmaster and Flight Simulator X

Been playing Minecraft with some friends.

http://www.minecraft.net/

Fun as hell, just a whole lot of joy to be found in setting up a private server with some pals and just building shit.
The pubbies are bastards though, which is why running anything other than a private server is bound to be a catastrophe.
Maybe there should be an NMA server if any of you jump in?

Prototype. It's my first modern 'open ended action' game, as I've never played Crackdown or Infamous. So far the experience has been a mixed bag.

The game starts off with you having every single power available, which is amazing. Almost as soon as you get all of this awesome shit handed to you, it's taken away in a max payne style opening (THIS IS REALLY THE END OF THE GAME NOW LETS GO BACK TO THE BEGINNING, SHALL WE?).

Being dumped back into the world with nothing but the most rudimentary attacks is quite sad, as the fighting is rather bland after having the crazy combos and "destroy everything on screen with a flourish of tentacles" moves removed.

The controls seem to have a mind of their own sometimes, and moving alex in the direction you want him to go in the very crowded fighting scenes becomes very frustrating after you've been juggled to death for the fifth time.

The buggy camera only compounds the control issues, since it likes to get stuck in this SUPER-low sensitivity mode, where you can't even turn to see where you're going (rapidly jumping on/off walls can fix this).

Contrary to what the reviews all seem to be saying, the graphics are quite good. It also runs surprisingly well considering the absolutely MASSIVE amount of npcs, vehicles and explosions that are on screen constantly.

For me, the most fun I've had in this game was not doing the story missions, but just aimlessly causing chaos.

Here's one of the awesome experiences I had:

I'm walking among a crowd of people. I see a woman in a gray pantsuit. I walk up behind her, grab her, punch a hole in her chest and absorb her body. The crowd around me scatters, and I am now a woman in a gray pantsuit.

I run a few blocks and merge with a crowd again.

This time, I purposefully shove through a crowd. A man in a basketball shirt is not pleased, and calls me an asshole. I grab him by the throat and throw him into the side of a truck. There is a satisfying splatter of blood as he crashes into the truck (denting it). He's still alive! This just won't do.

I pick him up and sprint up the side of a skyscraper. As I reach the top, I immediately turn and hurl him off the ledge. Won't be surviving that one.

well, GUHHRRRAAAFIX aren't everything. But still, i think it's one of the best looking console games out there.

I've been playing Prototype, and having a blast. It's basically just an excuse to give the player a ridiculously overpowered character to explore and destroy Manhattan.
Tons of fun.

You only get to play in the 'this is what you'll get to do later' environment for a couple of minutes anyway, so it's not that bad. It also gives you a better incentive to earn EPs and upgrade your character.

Use air recovery/dash/sprint more. If you get stuck between 3 hunters (the most common 'juggling' event I think), you can jump/dash your way out of there and back to safety pretty easily.

I have not had this at all.

The graphics are crappy for a high-end modern game. They're on par with, say, GTA: San Andreas. Not that this is bothersome, the game runs super smooth (I have had 0 slowdowns anywhere), load times are fast, and you don't really notice that the graphics aren't great. The only annoying thing is the rather rampant pop-in of detailed objects (swivel the camera a bit fast and you see airco units and the like spawning on top of buildings).

As for the rest of the game, I have only one complaint: the plot is filled with MASSIVE FUCKING PLOTHOLES. They do a great job of setting the right atmosphere (think 28 Days Later), constant small movies you can 'collect' by exploring the "Web of Intrigue", which means basically absorbing any characters you stumble across that are marked as 'HEY INFO HERE', which then lead to more characters that are marked that way etc etc etc Great way to get the player to explore some of the backstory for himself without relying solely on the main quest line.

But if your brain is half turned-on, a ton of stuff just doesn't make any sense. Biggest plot annoyance so far:
[spoiler:c67cbb62dd]
Mr. Badass Commando tracks you down to inject you with instant-kill-the-virus stuff (which actually seems to not work anyway), he sadistically goes "I've been looking forward to this" before violently trying to pummel you to death, even though he previously expressed the idea to his commander that you are still a sentient human, and he'd been working with your girlfriend who could've injected you with the stuff peacefully, without a problem without any need for any kind of risky face-to-face confrontation.[/spoiler:c67cbb62dd]

Yes, Graphics aren't everything, but play a major role in FPS games that don't add too much to the genre.

Been playing Scarface: The World is Yours.

Started a new game in Final Fantasy 6.

And of course, Sim City 3000.

As for "future" gaming, I'm going to get my Nintendo64 and buy up Perfect Dark, Jet Force Gemini, and possibly even Goldeneye. Finally found those games in this town.

Well, I found out what was causing the strange mouse-lock up issue. It has to do with getting extremely high FPS. It makes sense, as it mostly occurred indoors.

The only way I could find to fix it was to enable vsync, which is a pretty pathetic solution since it drops the fps for the rest of the game severely. Ah well, hopefully they'll patch it.

Playing through Mass Effect again.

Playing VTM: Bloodlines with P&P mod that adds all the clans, and changes a good amount of stuff up, making the game more challenging.

Trying to play Planescape Torment but after spending a couple of hours reinstalling it to find which fix pack was a bit dodgy I then found out that Geforce 8 cards have problems with Infinity Engine games meaning I got a lot of black boxes on the screen (only IE game that has an option to fix this is BG2 sadly).
Found a few fixes but they mostly have drawbacks.
