General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

SS:BFE is/was on sale, so I grabbed it. Man, I miss chainsaw and other little things, but overall it's a goddamn good game, and is finally getting crazy-ish after 2 dull stages. Not quite SS:SE level, probably more like SS:FE, but definitely miles and miles above SS2, now we can enjoy this one and pretend SS2 never happened. :|

System Shock: Best Friends Ever? System Shock: Special Edition?? System Shock: Furry Edition??? Pretend System Shock 2 never happened???? Whaaaaat

Well if someone would explain what "SS" means in the post-386 world without me having to take the two seconds to Google it. If it's not synonymous with System Shock any more we must all kill ourselves.

Here's a hint - it's a game about a very serious dude in groovy sunglasses who likes to blow shit up.

Trust me, I'm as distraught that someone doesn't instantly recognize what SS:SE is since it's one of those games that made me like games.

Oh yeah, and killing that giant rocket monster in melee felt very very satisfying.

BTW, it's quite funny that Croateam finally gave in and made (retconned, really) an explanation for how the headless kamikaze can scream.

I kinda assumed that was how they screamed, makes the whole L.C.U thing even more creepy now considering the screaming is possibly unintentional.

Ah well, hammer to the fa... wait that wouldn't work.

me and a buddy of mine have been playing a lot of global agenda recently on lan.

it's a free mmo where you pick one of 4 classes - healer, tank, assassin, gadget, and play either co-op pve or pvp.
each class has it's own skill tree that you work up as you level, as well as their own gear and abilities.

basically, you can roam around outside the hub city and kill stuff, doing little pve quest missions, to level, or at any time you can launch into 4 player squad mini-dungeons on a timer, among other things.
the squad side of it can be pugs, or you can form your own team -- they have the usual agency (guild) side of it, too, with agencies battling it out in another aspect of the game.

it's not a particularly complex game, and got a metacritic score of 70, if that means anything, but I find I can play the crap out of it over and over --- if you get tired of one character you can always try working up a different class, and I find the squad pugs to be endlessly replayable.

haven't even joined any agencies, and while the squad pvp is pretty fun, I usually get destroyed.

here's an outdated vid review from a couple retards.:

check out the free version if you've got nothin' going on --- just don't expect goty.

Playing stalker soc with the 2009 mod for the first time and loving it. Tried rage for an hour or so but besides the pretty graphics I didn't find it that good.
Also playing bloodbowl legendary on a private league.

3 player co-op Serious Sam: BFE is great fun. Only time I died was due to some fella setting of my C4 with his own.

^ Oh hai thar.

The best fun of Serious Sam co-ops has always been finding creative ways to kill your mates, monster waves be damned.

Especially because Friendly Fire was of, definitely inventive.

L.A. Noire is on Steam for 9 quid, hudda hudda hudda.

Just finished Witcher 2, lovely looking game and I wish more games would give more thought to divergent paths due to early choices. But I hate sequels that totally change the game mechanics, if I'd known it had gone all action I probably wouldn't of bought it. Yes the combat in the first needed improving but at least you could play it just with the mouse or pause and select you next target. Alchemy was totally neutered because of needing to meditate to drink potions and the short duration of potions and oils tended to make them less useful. Given the game's propensity for surprising you or launching you into combat after dialogues or cutscenes.

Just curious, did you do both paths? Cause if not, you're missing half the game...

Alchemy isn't bad, but the cutscenes cutting duration was total bull.

I've started replaying the first game to create a save with different decisions before I do the other path.

Alchemy probably isn't so bad if you dedicate your build to it, but it's not as powerful as the other paths imho. It's not just the cut scenes duration, it's the nature of the world that there's a lot of random attacks. Even with the alchemy path your potions and oils just don't last long enough and since you now have to meditate to drink a potion there's a lot of the game where you just don't get to use potions.

I dont know why they had to change it. I mean alchemy in Witcher 1 was pretty well done. On lower difficult it was a bonus. But on higher difficulty you could not survive without it. And the use of it was pretty good as well.

I would be pretty pissed as well if I had always to meditate just to take some potion.
