German PC Games previews Fallout: New Vegas

on the side note of the clothing bonus stuff...
it just doesn't make sense unless the system is just huge in scale to account for such minor differences. and i don't think special is.
a +1 for perception on a 1-10 scale justified as the brim of the hat blocking the sun just doesn't work, because it then begs for mechanics to govern loosing that bonus when its dark, or even putting your hand up to shield the sun. and we already know from todd that they did it not because they were thinking about things like that but because they wanted to give players an "incentive" to wear the stuff.

The magazine writes that "Fore!" is not a groin hit, it's a hit on the head of the enemy.

Also the NCR wants the player to get Helios 1 to run. If it runs, the power has to go to New Vegas.

Awww come on, why bottle caps again? As idiotic as it was to reintroduce them in F3, it is even more in core region area which clearly evolved with currency. Why not casino caps for example? Give us something new, and if not then golden coins form F2!

On currency, I was hoping they'd have a few:

In NV itself, chips would dominate, with caps a very distant and diminishing second. Whilst "NCR cash" would be rejected at almost all places in the city in the first parts of the game, and either increasing in acceptance/resistance depending on which of the two factions you side with.

Outlying settlements would vary in their dealings with those three. For example, one, on principle against gambling, would reject chips. Another, perhaps located on the far western portion of the map, could be enthusiastically in support of NCR and only have its money.

In places, maybe there'd be small 'banks', with armed guards posted-up, that'd also trade you approximate dollars for your chips or caps.

Gold could be an extremely rare fourth, as one of NCR's many key goals could be to create a vast reserve. Maybe such established traders would be required to seize any gold you have "for the glory of the Republic", again handing NCR cash back to you in turn.

Iunno, just some random thoughts. I know very little on the workings of such things.

Some NPC companions will have their own quests too, not only Raul.

I hope that means you will get to bond with your companions and extract some character development out of the quest...

Something like that would just be very good. But, would the console kids understand things like exchange rates? I mean, exchange rates don't have no head to asplode! Won't they whine when that trader won't accept their 5000 caps? Then again, I don't see the developers at Obsidian (or anywhere else) doing something like that even if console people would be ok with it.

Wonder why they went with caps in F3. You can find enough pre-war money (and oddly toasters) to literally fill a bath and swim in it and then sell it all for thousands of bottle caps.
With all this dosh hanging around with the 200 year old blood packs and the acres of pre-war food you find 5 minutes outside the towns it's kinda surprising they aren't just living exactly as before. Going about their daily business while dodging the odd exploding car.

Yeah... :(

It's a really great idea, and I hope to see it implemanted someday. You should try spamming the New Vegas board with it.
But it's also something really hard to implemant, cause if the exchange rate are different, I can see some market manipulation coming... Damn trader! :D

well if they spend as much work on the companions in Vegas as they did with Kotor 2 I think they will be good. Remember some had really a very interesting personality.

Dont expect the same kind of interaction of course but some interesting back story or character. I liked Kotor IIs characters more then Biowars recently shown NPC characters like in Dragon Age.

Biowars? sounds like a biological warfare game :D

if Bioware made this game, we'd be driving in our pimped out Chryslers Motors Highwayman between missions, occasionally turning to the backseat to learn about or companions backstories. after a while we'd kick all of them out except for one to make room for some sweet backseat romance with that person.

 The thought of that alone is ludicrously hilarious.

LOL, imagine BW dialogue in FO:

Code:
Oh noes, Raiders attacked our town! What do we do?

1. Butt-kicking, FOR JUSTICE!!!
2. I"M the fucking sheriff in town! But gimme all your money.
3. I EAT BABIES!!!! I'll eat yours, then kill raiders.

The plot would also probably involve an ancient race of molerats rising from oblivion to take over the world, or something.

Ehh... Not much need to imagine. They weren't entirely free of that sort of thing.
Vault 13 and 15 in FO2 has it in spades:
Code:
"I'm a guy and I do stuff"

1. Holy crap you are the greatest guy ever and the stuff you do is super awesome!
2. I see.
3. Fuck you, you should have been a stain on your mother's leg.

Well, it's more like an issue of the current dialogue system in general. But when those dialogues are all over the place, and the outcome is the same whatever you pick... At least in FO2 I noticed that what you said mattered MOST of the time.
