Briosafreak's Fallout 3 Blog has some more information about the new community manager for Bethesda, Matt “Gstaff” Grandstaff.

Gstaff went to school at the University of Michigan where he majored in Communications. He spent the last few years working with a variety of companies in the online space and their communities. In his words:

Since I can remember, I’ve been an avid gamer. I started with the 2600 when I was very young and have moved through just about every platform since. . . .

As you know, I was hired as Community Manager for Bethesda (my first day was Monday). Pete brought me aboard because with more Bethesda games coming out (and more fan communities to keep up with), he was looking for someone who could help improve and manage communication between our company and the fans of our games.

Matt is playing the Fallout games and getting to know more about them and our community. He started on some frantic days, that’s for sure, and I wish him good luck.

Just don’t forget us PCGamers Matt, and you’ll be fine.
Given his position, we will likely be seeing more of Matt, so lets give him a warm welcome.

Must be a hectic situation to step into, so good luck. Hopefully you'll have a lot of fun with playing through the Fallout games as well.

I'm hope he finds us as dedicated fans and not rabid obsessors.

Great luck and thanks for taking such a position!

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

hey Matt,

must be fun to get paid to play Fallout!

but all kidding aside, you're in for a bumpy ride. i really don't envy you (ok, maybe i do a little). Howard, Kathode and you will probably be the ones reaping the critical fallout from the development process (no pun intended).

anyway, best of luck & lets hope this all turns out for the best (who knows, Bethesda might actually give us a real Fallout even though that is against all odds).

above all: welcome to the community.

Welcome to the party, Matt. I used to room with a Community Manager, so I know what a bitchy sit it can be. Here's wishing you the best of luck and hoping that you can be the ever-widening crack in the dam of reticence that has vexed us thus far.

Don't let anyone tie your hands, and please try not to equate the Fallout fan base with some of the knee-jerk illiterates that troll up your boards... despite the genteel reputation Fallout fans enjoy, there are actually a couple of ne'er-do-wells to be found if you look hard enough. We'd call 'em off, but they're wild dogs, not ours.

At any rate, congrats on what'll hopefully be a very satisfying and rewarding job for you. We look forward to hearing from you in the future.

The guy just left for weekend, but had this to say to you guys:

Tell the guys I appreciate the welcome. Enjoy your weekend!

Off topic, does anyone recognize who's with him in the pic I have on my blog? I'm curious.

Wasn't he like a rock star back in the eighties and nineties? Had some pretty good records... I wonder what happened to him... :freak:

I heard he lost his hat... His precious!

Welcome community authority figure / manager. Take everything we say as constructive criticism... And it's ok to vomit a little... Trick is having a small lunch.
